This is the story of the infamous Sleepy Hollow like you've never seen it before. It takes the myth and legend, gives it a modern day twist, and reveals truths lost along the way that shed a whole different light on A LOT of the subject matter.

I liked getting the know the Katrina of today. Her interactions felt genuine, her frustrations easily echoed, and her current predicament understandable. Who wants to be locked into a family legend against their wishes? Who doesn't want the chance to follow their dreams and become who they were meant to be...not simply their ancestor of yesteryear in the here and now? Kat was a strong young woman, but even the strongest among us needs someone by our side, a person to help us see the way, a light to shed the darkness and confusion of night, letting in the sun of another day. For Kat, it's her new friend Isadora, and while friendship may blossom first, it's not the ending emotion, and all the better for them both...that is, if the Horseman lets them be. Yes, the history of the legend isn't all cloak and dagger, and the supernatural definitely makes more than a passing appearance here, but it's all part and party to Sleepy Hollow...who would expect anything less? What an ADVENTURE!

If you caught the mention of a famous fairytale character earlier, you weren't mistaken. This is a story featuring one of Cinderella's mice, and she's the bravest of them all. Tackling goodness knows in the first story, but this time around, there's legions of rats after her and her magical silver needle...each desirous to find her and serve her up on a platter to their leader...MIDNIGHT. As scary as he sounds...he's probably worse, actually, but there's more going on there than simply evil...things that come to light later on as the story unfolds.

Along Delphine's journey to avenge all the lives lost, and put a stop to the reign of terror, we get to know the mouse-ling at heart...in more ways than one! You see, Delphine is still trying to uncover her past, and the past of the Threaders, things that are lost or thought to be myth at this point in time, but her existence, as well as her ability to wield the magic of the needle tell us otherwise. She's determined to meet all her goals, but no mouse (nor man!) can do such a task all by themselves. It always comes down to just who you have in your corner...your friends...and Delphine, while strong of heart, is generous with kindness, and friendship as well, thus making her motley crew of followers, the best CHOSEN family a mouse could have. You'll laugh at their antics, smile at their not-so-hidden feelings, and gasp at the feats they pull off in the name of love. As stalwart as Delphine may be, that same strength is mirrored in their belief in her.

It's a touching tail...I mean, tale, filled with adventure, danger, personal growth, magic, and heart. It sounds like an interesting mix, but it made a WONDERFUL story that will have readers young and old tied up in knots until the final pages, as their dear friends face things no one should have to, but eventually someone must...and who better than our brave little Delphine, and her merry band of friends?

This was a thrilling ride from start to finish.

When first we meet Riley Oh, she's lost her touch with her yourself, with her family, with her friends...with her LIFE. While it's understandable considering all she has been through...discovering an incredible heritage, inadvertently making her clan lose their powers of healing while trying to save the world, having her parents and friends completely mind wipe on her, and almost losing her sister for good...it doesn't make it any easier to digest. She's cut off from her emotions; lost her way. She blames herself for so many things that were outside of her control, as so some of the former clan, and all she wants to do is set things right. That guilt, that desire to make things good again for everyone is what drives her to make an irrational choice, landing her in the underworld on a self made quest to restore the clan's powers...but as you might have guessed, things are not quite that simple. There are many obstacles along the way, including a 1000 year sentence to be served in one of the seven realms of hell, imugis that are not nearly as cute as the name might make them sound, and additional unknowns that seem to pop up from every corner. Good thing she has a guide to help her through...sort of. Good thing she catches up with someone she knows though is surprised to find...sort of. Good thing at the end of the day the drudgery through the seven levels is more than a punishment...or vacation (what a concept!)...but a chance to learn and grow as she makes her way from the Riley she was before to the new(ish) and improved(ish) version left behind after all is said and done.

I really enjoyed this story from start to finish. It was so interesting to learn about some of the Korean beliefs surrounding the afterlife, and reincarnation, while being engrossed in the Fantasy story unfolding before our very eyes. The dummy book Riley Oh encountered put it pretty cut and dry, even from the contents page, while the real thing's makeover was hard to believe, yet quite the concept! As the story unfolded, so many more pieces, more characters, more stories were put into play that you could just feel it building to the possibility of another title in the series, still to come. I mean, it's bad enough to have to leave characters behind that you've grown to know and love, but when they're are left on such a precipice as these were? All true fans can do is count the days until the next adventure is ours to explore!

So take a walk into the past, to secure a future for Riley Oh and her family, friends, and clan. There are many surprises along the way, as well as liberal use of imagination, but that's what makes stories like these so unforgetable!
