This is a story about dreaming big and going for those dreams.
It's all well and fine to have a dream, but if you don't chase it, if you don't take a chance to make it come true...then it may as well be a figment of your imagination.  The dreamer here is Flaco the Owl and the dream is to soar the big blue skies.  Sounds like a natural match for a bird, BUT Flaco has been in captivity as far back as he can remember, so he's never had the pleasure.  Oh, but the view from his enclosure keeps him hoping, keeps him DREAMING that one day it might be his reality.  When an unexpected visitor pays him a visit, the opportunity arises for him to make his dreams reality...so, he takes his chance, and never looks back!

It was wonderful to see Flaco reach for the skies!  It speaks to persevering, seizing the moment, and reaching for your dreams.  It reminds us that ANYTHING is possible, if we believe, and take the chances that present themselves.  There may be obstacles along the way, but if we keep trying, and allow ourselves the grace to grow, the sky is truly the limit!  A great story for readers of all ages with a story to tell, and lessons to share that will carry right off the page.

AWARENESS TOUR: The Glass Pyramid: A Story of the Louvre Museum and Architect I.M. Pei by Jeanne Walker Harvey, Illustrated by Khoa Le - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Welcome back to another bookish day here on Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers!
Today, we're making way for the latest AWARENESS TOUR going on now with The Children's Book Review and featuring a work of edutainment that shares the beauty of creation, the tale of innovation, and the moments of inspiration lived once upon a time...that gave us a notable work of art.  Ladies and gents, get ready to take in some culture as we travel to infamous Lourve Museum without ever leaving the comfort of home...

About the book...
In 1981, I. M. Pei was on a mission. A successful architect known for his modern designs, Pei was asked by the French president to redesign the Louvre Museum in Paris, home to the Mona Lisa and now famous for the glass pyramid at its center. At the time, the Louvre had many problems and no pyramid.

Pei faced many obstacles, including discrimination because he was Chinese American. Determined to succeed and make the Louvre a welcome place for all, Pei worked hard—and sometimes in secret. This is the story of a visionary who worked patiently and persistently to solve problems and achieve his goals: to plant and grow a glass pyramid.

Once upon a time not so very long ago (well, relatively speaking, of course), someone had an idea that would change the face of an international landmark housing some of the world's most remarkable works of art...but the idea wasn't to add something to it's walls.  The idea was to change how they were housed, or the look of the place, and the talent being requested was someone with great talent, and great ideas.  The challenge?  One would think the initial drawing board phase, and yet...the REAL challenger wasn't in the designing, but the acceptance of the designs AND the designer.  That's right.  The people were happy to get a face lift to their house of creativity, yet far less willing to accept someone from outside of their country codes as the one behind it.  I.M. didn't take offense; in fact, he made it a part of his mission to gain their acceptance.  He took the time to take in the culture, learn from the past and present, yet build towards the future, and the end results are still astonishing to this day.

Beyond the humbling tale of this creative mind, and the wonderful illustrations that bring it all to life, we get a closer look at the STEM aspects that were tackled during its creation.  From construction of the design to the special glass needed to bring it to life to how to maintain its appearance for generations to come, this was a marriage of arts and science if ever there was.  By book's end, if you're not inspired by the journey from thought to page, you'll at the very least be marveling at the beauty of it all.  A great addition to any edutainment collection for readers of all ages.

WHAT'S THE BUZZ?: The Jade Bracelet by Hà Dinh, Illustrated by Yong Ling Kang - REVIEW!

Today's WHAT'S THE BUZZ title is set to celebrate its BOOK BIRTHDAY tomorrow with Random House Studio, but we're taking you between the pages today for a sneaky peek!  It's a NEW Storybook that's filled with beauty, acceptance, tradition, and a healthy dose of edutainment for all.  Let's get ready to meet this darling mother and daughter duo as we take a closer look at today's featured title...

by
Hà Dinh
Illustrated by
Yong Ling Kang

Random House Studio
Release Date: 04/15/25

About the book...
Although Tien loves the Vietnamese traditions her family celebrates, more than anything she wants to fit in at school and be just like her classmates. So, when all the girls start wearing brand-new sparkly bracelets, Tien tries to hide the simple jade bangle her mother gave her in memory of her grandmother. Now her bracelet looks like an old green thing and an embarrassed Tien runs home crying, flinging it on the floor. Her sympathetic mama understands and takes Tien to the shop to buy the popular bracelet. But at the last minute, Tien remembers her grandmother’s love and decides to wear her jade bracelet proudly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a beautifully touching story about family traditions.
Most families have something similar, even if they don't have it with them physically each day.  It's an item that carries significant value beyond the monetary.  These items can be big, small, or anywhere in-between, but what makes them all enormous is the connection they carry to our past, to the loved ones that came before us, and the memories they can bring to mind.  Grant it, it doesn't truly take an item to do those things, but I get how the physical representation can make it that much more powerful, that much easier for wee ones to understand.  Though our little leading lady wants to fit in more with her friends and their sparkly bits and bobbles, she comes to realize just how much more meaningful this simple and beautiful bracelet truly is.  The ties to her family bring her strength, and help unlock her heart to the beauty of the tradition of which she is a part.
A great representation of edutainment brought to life with a kindness and gentleness that helps little ones understand the significance of something of which they are a part.  This is a story that not only gives us a glimpse into Vietnamese heritage and the author's life, but brings us closer to those in our own families, and perhaps either a better understanding of where some traditions originated, or the spark to start our own.
Storybook Saturday: PATSY CLINE'S WALKIN' AFTER MIDNIGHT by Judith A. Proffer with Julie Dick Fudge, Ilustrated by Yoko Matsuoka - REVIEW!
We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with Storybook Saturday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday (or Saturday, depending on the week)! Feel free to join the fun and create a post on your own site with the same name. I'd love to see any linked up in the comments! Anywho...back to the matter at hand.
Today's featured title is a matter of edutainment.  It's part truth, and part imagination, but the sum of its parts creates a wonderful tale to go walking through at any hour of the day.  😉  Brought to my attention by the team at Book Publicity Services, I'm donning my boots, and grabbing a hat (not a cowgirl style because I simply don't own one!), as we prepare to step between the pages of today's featured title...
About the book...
Patsy has a big voice and a big heart - and she longs to share both with the world.
Whether she's fizzing sodas in a soda shop or piddling in the garden, Patsy daydreams of one day singing onstage at Carnegie Hall and The Grand Ole Opry. She muses about performing in Las Vegas - as the first female singer to headline her own show. She also dreams of hearing herself sing on the radio and even daydreams of having her own museum.
Patsy's sleep dreams are also filled with adventure and blazing color.
But Patsy's favorite dreams of all are her walking after midnight dreams - she calls it dream walking. She knows she's sleeping and yet it all seems so very, very real. It's when life and loss entwine and comfort. It's where imagination and possibilities come together with surprising encounters.
🎵   🌙   🤠   🎵   🤠   🌙   🎵
Filled with darling illustrations that not only bring Patsy's world to life, but invite readers to embark on their own "walks after midnight" (dreams), this is both a story and a piece of country music edutainment.  It shares the story of a little girl with BIG dreams that would carry her all the way to the big stages she so desperately wanted to perform on, and leave a legacy that is still celebrated to this day.  It reminds us that inspiration can come from anywhere, and dreams are the perfect place to explore all the possibilities that exist.  I admit, I wasn't expecting the tinge of sadness that hit my heart when we learned of Patsy's own dream walks after midnight, but the joy those moments brought her, the places she and Pepe saw, the dreams they shared, all went into making memories that she could pull out at a moment's notice when she needed a pick me up during the day.  Who knew that dream walking after midnight, and a whole lot of patience, would one day lead to the creation of a star the likes of which the music world would never forget?
The marriage of story and art creates an impeccable experience visually, and a memorable tale to read and share.  I've got to say, there are times when a story calls to me in a specific way, and this one practically begged to be read aloud with a Southern twang...and yes, I obliged.  It just added that little something extra that captured not only the imagination, but the heart as well.  A great pick for little dreamers as well as those looking to pick up the dreams they may have scattered along the way, I can see many generations taking that walk with Patsy, and walking away with a lighter heart.
About the book...
This is the story of Webster the beagle and his adventures at the Rappahannock River, whose tale of hope will inspire you to never give up on your dreams. Sometimes, we think we’re lost when, really, we’re just hoping to be found.
🐾  🐾  🐾  🐾  🐾  🐾  🐾
Webster was a born hunting dog, but one day when out and about, he become lost. Don't fret. He's found sooner than later, and gets a second chance at a more auspicious life. How so? Well, where Webster was previously hunting and chasing the critters of the woods and waters, which was fine and dandy, now he gets to enjoy their company 😉. Yes, Webster now gets to travel with his owner, and, depending on the season, has the chance to make new friends of fin, feather, and shell! Along the way, we get to learn all about the new creatures we're encountering... things like Osprey don't need to drink water, and Rockfish can grow up to 30 pounds, which were both news to me!
It's a great example of edutainment for little ones just starting out as well as beginning readers to start building that desire to explore the world around them. There's just enough story to move things along with the right amount of information to keep things intriguing, and when combined with the lovely illustrations, there's no doubt Webster will make a fine friend to many an adventurer in the making.
About the book...
Jasmine A. Stirling, author of A Most Clever Girl: How Jane Austen Discovered Her Voice, delivers a powerful, poetic picture book biography about suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt, perfect for fans of I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark and the Rebel Girls series.
As a child, Carrie Chapman Catt asked a lot of questions: How many stars are in the sky? Do germs have personalities? And why can’t Mama vote? Catt’s curiosity led her to college, to a career in journalism, and finally to becoming the president of The National American Woman Suffrage Association. Catt knew the movement needed a change—and she set to work mobilizing women (and men) across the nation to dare to question a woman’s right to vote.
On August 18, 1920, Catt pinned a yellow rose to her dress and waited while lawmakers in Tennessee cast their deciding votes to ratify the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. After a seventy-year campaign, had women finally won the right to vote?
Stirling’s suspenseful retelling of the dramatic final “yea” that changed the history of women’s rights brings the past to life for young readers.
Dare to dream.
Reach for the stars.
Follow your heart.
All easy enough to say, but to do, now that takes guts... that takes persistence... that takes drive, determination, and a never-say-die-spirit...all things Carrie Chapman Catt had in spades, and it all started with a few questions.
That's right, questions.
She thought about things. She wondered about things. She felt things deeply, and fought for things strongly. She saw where change was needed, and went after that change. When the fight got hard, she went about it in new ways. When she was told no, she continued to pursue that yes, until one day, her message made it into the hearts and minds of enough supporters to turn a nation.
It's a wonderfully told story filled with illustrations that truly bring the past to life, while reminding us that change only comes about because someone decides to speak up. A great lesson for readers of all ages and stages in life, and a great addition to personal, public, and school libraries alike.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
Udayana Lugo is a self-taught illustrator of mixed heritage. Having worked as a designer of many varied things, from jewelry to auto-parts and from furniture to whole interiors, she still does that but in children’s books which are her true passion. She and her husband have lived in Mexico, Italy, and England, but they call British Columbia their home, along with their two kids. When not working on a book, you can find her walking her dog or baking something with her children.
