BLOG TOUR: How to Bake a Man by Jessica Barksdale Inclan

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're featuring a BLOG TOUR courtesy of TLC Book Tours that shines the spotlight on a Women's Fiction title that's good for the bookish mind, but bad for the waist line.  Why?  Well, there is a distinct focus on baked goods and with good reason, seeing as they are the star of the chosen occupation of the leading lady.  But I digress, I'm getting a smidge ahead of myself.  Ladies and gents, if you'd please join me in the kitchen for a brief interlude as we digest the contents of today's book of choice...

About the book....
When Becca drops out of grad school, all she has left to fall back on is her baking.  With the help of her lizard- booted neighbor Sal, she starts a small business selling her wares to hungry office workers.  But things quickly get complicated when she meets the man of her dreams, and an arch-enemy, his b*itchy lawyer girlfriend.  Before long, she's neck-deep in office politics, clandestine romance, and flour.  Saving her business - and finding true love - is going to take everything she's got, and more.

Okay, so here's the thing with this one.
I REALLY wanted to ADORE it.
In the end though, I only liked and sorta loved it.
I shall explain.

The concept?  Great!
Smart gal, seeking to improve her future takes the path of higher learning, realizes it's not for her and searches out something that will line her pocketbook and feed her soul.  Find a soul mate along the way?  Sure!  Why not!  All in good fun and good planning.

The side story within the plot?  Meh.
It seemed forced and personally I felt I was lead on and on without the juicy outcome one would expect with a possible double...um, okay, so I can't explain that part but it deals with the witchy lawyer girlfriend mentioned in the synopsis.

The delivery?  My opinion is split.
While I enjoyed the writing, I wasn't too fond of a particular character of which I was expected to love.  The character...that would be Sal.  He's a potential love interest, great friend, and dependable neighbor....but his actual character otherwise didn't make the grade for me.  Personal preference can explain the looks maybe not matching what my mind was creating, but his whole attitude, dress, and approach to life even, just had me scurrying through his passages.

The ending?  It works.
While not everyone reaches a happily ever after, more do than expected and those that don't truly didn't need one anyway.  So yes, I'd say in the end I was satisfied.

Recommended read for Women's Fiction and Chick Lit fans in their older teens and beyond....oh, and don't be surprised if you have a HUGE sweet tooth by the end of the book.  So many great sweets with recipes too!
