BLOG TOUR: Aoleon the Martian Girl: The Great Pyramid of Cydonia by Brent LeVasseur

Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're kicking off the week with the exciting conclusion to a Middle Grade Science Fiction series.  We've been featuring it over the past few weeks courtesy of iRead Book Tours, so if you missed any of the reviews, feel free to use the site search option to catch up on all the fun.  Now, this is the fifth installment and it brings everything full circle to a neat and tidy end...well, sort of.  Set your navigational systems for adventure and get ready to make star tracks because you're going to need all your wits about you if you plan on making it out in one piece!  Today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice is...

Aoleon the Martian Girl, Book 5:
 by
Brent LeVasseur

About the book...
Aoléon, Gilbert, Bizwat, Helios, and Zoot make it to their final destination - Cydonia where Aoléon’s parents are being held captive. They infiltrate a secret underground base and are confronted by a small army of sentrybots.
Bizwat lends Aoléon and Gilbert some of his advanced combat skills via a psionic brain dump. However, this may not be enough to save them from overwhelming hostile forces that will do anything to stop them.
They finally meet Pax - the Martian who originally set them out on the mission to discover the truth about the Luminon and his plans to invade Earth. However Pax is not who he seems to be, and through a turn of events, they uncover the true power behind all that has been happening on Mars.
Will they be able to rescue Aoléon’s parents and save Earth from invasion?

The surprises in store for you in this installment are numerous but one thing is for certain, the end is coming...it's the "for whom" part that will keep you guessing.

Last time we met up with our motley crew, we were still seeking Pax, an end to the invasion/destruction of Terra, and trying to rescue Aoleon's parents, all while trying to stay two steps ahead of the Luminon.  Think they accomplished it?  Well, with a little stealth, a lot of trust in one another, and the powerhouse that is Helios, anything is possible.  There are journeys across the galaxy to take, enemies to annihilate, and friendships to remember for all time.  It's a mixed bag of emotions with plenty of action and close calls to spare. What?  You didn't think I was going to actually TELL you what happened, right?  Good!  Because I'm not, but I am going to say a few more words about the story...

This time around, we get to feast our eyes on more illustrations than ever before.  From fight scenes to stare downs to touching goodbyes (again, not telling between whom!), there's a lot going on here and it's shared in both word and image.  Aoleon has never looked cuter nor Gilbert stronger.  Bizwatt is definitely space catch worthy while Helios is full of untapped humor with Zoot close at hand to chase your worries away with a wet kiss.  Easy to spot who is who among the crew, and among the villains...just a quick note, keep an eye on that Luminon character.  You'll see what I mean.

All in all, though not a space traveling reader myself, I enjoyed this series from Terra to Mars and back.  The story was a blast (pun absolutely intended) with characters that remind us that anyone is capable of great things, no matter how big, small, or what planet they come from.  Recommended read for Middle Grade Science Fiction fans of Terra...I mean Earth, and beyond.

The heart wants what it wants... Finding Glory by Sara Arden

Hi guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.  As promised, I'm BAAACCCKKK!  Just needed a tiny little break yesterday to catch up on a little reading.  Hope you enjoyed the FUN BREAK. ^-^  Now, on with the show...

Today, we're shining the spotlight on another title featured recently in the END OF SUMMER BLOG TOUR (which ends tonight!) via TLC Book Tours and Harlequin Books.  It comes to us from a new-to-me author and though it read perfectly fine as a stand alone, I do believe I may have to investigate the author's other works, or at the very least, the preceding two in this trio.  Ladies and gents, please join me in welcoming today's book of choice...

About the book...
Once upon a time, he was just a hopeless cause from the wrong side of Glory, Kansas. And he’ll be damned if he’ll let anyone drag him back down after finally clawing his way out.

Everyone knows that Gina Townsend is a saint, always taking care of everyone around her. And now she’s trying to be a mother to her six-year-old niece, Amanda Jane. But the girl’s biological father isn’t helping matters. The scruffy, gangly boy Gina remembers has returned to Glory a sexy, successful man, but Reed Hollingsworth is the only thing standing between her and losing Amanda Jane to foster care.

Betrayed that neither Townsend sister bothered to tell him he was a father until he had money, Reed’s still not about to shirk his responsibilities. So when he demands Gina move in with him as part of Amanda Jane’s custody agreement, he tries not to notice pretty much everything about her—especially the way his solemn-faced daughter laughs when they play together.

Raising a child together, Reed and Gina learn that some dreams come and go, but some are a spark that burns eternal…

It's a little bit Kristan Higgins with a dash of Susan Mallery and a whole lot of reading fun.

I had no problem identifying with the characters in this one (the fact that I share a name with the leading lady didn't hurt any either), in fact some of the similarities were scary!  *looks around for journals...finds them secure*  Our dominant leads (because there are actually a few others running around as well) are Gina, Reed, and Amanda Jane.  Before you go thinking anything off color, Reed is Amanda Jane's father (a fact he's only just discovering) and Gina is her aunt (her sister Crystal passed away not so long ago).  She's been caring for the little girl for some time (rather well too) but making ends meet (works two jobs plus putting herself through med school) and giving her the life she deserves is two different things, and so she seeks out the financial assistance of the father.  The father who also happens to have been her childhood crush.  *gulp*  Good thing she only wants the best for Amanda Jane because if her own heart was to be involved, things could get messy.  But wait a moment....what about him?

Reed is the kid from the wrong side of the tracks, or at least he was.  Was, right?  I mean, he's done well for himself, self-made billionaires are viewed that way aren't they?  Too bad he can't seem to get the old picture of himself out of his head, or accept the fact that some people don't just want him for his money.  Some people want him for who he was, is, AND could be.  All it takes is one little girl to start putting the cracks in his foundation but it doesn't mean all roads lead to happily ever after.

I love the characters despite the fact that they get in their own ways more often than not.  As honest as they are in some things, they hide away from each other and themselves on all the things that make their heads spin confusion and stomachs churn in frustration.  I love them both to bits, she with her brilliant mind, self preservation, determination, and BIG heart; he with his desire to do the right thing, share the wealth he's made, melting at the sight of his daughter, and he's more than easy on the eyes.  For all their positive points, the lack of addressing things head on at times as we adults tend to do, makes my favorite character choice go to Amanda Jane.  She's the sweetest kid ever with such a unique outlook on the world around her.  She says what she wants and honestly feels but in such a way that it's more considerate than acting like a brat (which she's not in any way, shape, or form).  When the trio goes to the boathouse to say goodbye to Crystal, it could have broken your heart but her kindness and sensibility make it okay somehow.  She's a treasure to be sure.

Story wise, admittedly it's not a usual arrangement that's suggested by the judge (yeah...it was only the judge, the Grandmothers had NOTHING to do it with it...uh-huh), especially not when the couple hasn't actually already been together in any way that you want to take that phrase.  Does it make sense though at face value?  Yes...and no.  Yes because Amanda Jane gets what she needs...a stable home, money to back her education and living expenses while also gaining more time with her beloved Gina-bee.  The "no" comes in when you take into account the feelings of Gina and Reed.  Though something that's not up for discussion initially (though it's a horse that's pretty much ridden into the ground later on), it's a vital piece none of them truly consider.  I mean, a ready made family is great but if they weren't marrying for love, only family, how would they ever find their other halves later on?  It'd be out of the question until the child reached her 18th birthday...like in some fairy tale.  Hmm... ^-^
All in all, it's a read with heart that reminds us that happily-ever-after doesn't just come in one flavor but enough to merit a rainbow in its honor.  Trust me, you'll get frustrated a time or two as they go round and round, but the dance is well worth the outcome.  Be sure to follow the seemingly minor characters too because while they play their parts in this story, I've got a feeling they get a chance to be front and center in other installments (Emma and Grayson). Recommended read for adult Contemporary Romance fans, the sexy times are kept to a minimum with a lot more fanning of the flames but still, "new adult" age would be my suggested target audience starting point.

Sara Arden has always been fascinated by things better left in the dark. She wrote her first story after watching The Exorcist at a slumber party. Hi guys!
Welcome back to the Friday edition of Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Well, we've made it through another week and had many grand adventures through the pages.  Time to call it a week and PAR-TAY through the weekend...and by party of course I mean READ.  ^-^  Today, we're going back to the Kids Fiction genre, more specifically a Sci-fi Middle Grade series that we've been working our way through together.  The end is near, but only just, for today's selection is only book four and there are FIVE in this series...hence the only just...but that doesn't make it any less exciting.  Ladies and gents, children of all ages and species, get ready to blast off on another spacey adventure!  Today's book of choice is...

Book 4:  Illegal Aliens

About the book...
Aoléon and Gilbert have become the Luminon’s top priority in stopping the Martian resistance movement, and after being chased by the Royal Paladin Guard, they are forced to flee the Martian Megalopolis. Aoléon, Gilbert and Zoot escape with the help of Bizwat and his newly found friend, Helios, a first generation soldierbot.

After their saucer is destroyed, they crash land somewhere in the deep Martian desert, and they set out to locate Kyrios and the secret base where Aoléon’s parents are being held captive.

After battling the forces of nature, starvation, a Klyklon dust storm, (and not to mention a giant slor that almost swallows them alive), they finally make it to their destination. However, after Kyrios gives Gilbert some basic training to develop his budding psionic power, they learn that their journey is far from over.

Will Aoléon, Glbert, Bizwat, Helios, and Zoot be able to rescue Aoléon’s parents and stop the Martian invasion of Earth in time?

First things first, that cover!
I love the look on the face of the cow, or rather cows as in plural because it's not just one bovine flying through the air like an acrobat without a net.  As funny as the expressions are though, you know they can't help it. I mean, YOU'D have a similar facial displacement if you all of a sudden were being abducted while minding your own business in the middle of a field.  Gosh...how RUDE!

Secondly, we've still got to talk about those illustrations because as creatively fun as the cover is, the full cover vividness carries over to the interior spreads as well.  There didn't seem to be as many this time around (could have just been my impression though) but that didn't make them any less impact making.  Most memorable to me?  The sand-eel.  *shudders*  Think of the old Beetlejuice cartoon and the sandworms...only more vicious.  *o*

The gang playing a little prank with the Mars Rover...

Third times the charm, or rather next on my list of things to mention is the story itself.  Aoleon, Gilbert, and Bizwat (and Zoot!) are back and running for their lives as the powers that be pursue them to the ends of the galaxy.  Okay, so they SHOULD be running for their lives but in actuality they are headed right into the danger zone as they try to rescue Aoleon's family...and then try to stop the invasion of Earth.  Gadzooks!  Do they have it in them to face the dangers ahead?  Will this band of little rebels be able to see it through?  With the strength they find in themselves, and each other, they are surely on their way.  The newest addition to their group is Helios, a first generation soldierbot with a sense of humor.  No, he wasn't programmed that way and yet he is the way he is.  No doubt he will garner a following of fans all his own.

So, in conclusion, we've survived another trip to the far reaches of the galaxy with laughs, gasps, and danger most unpleasant.  The writing is consistent as is the world building, so those that take delight from the science fiction details will have much to celebrate.  As for me, I'm on the edge of my seat to see how it all winds down because there's only one book left and with the way things are right now, it's bound to be a doozy!

COVER REVEAL: Once Upon a Time University by Savannah Ostler

Hi guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we come to you with late breaking news.  In my email box last night, there was an interesting invitation from Kitty at Ravenswood Publishing.  After reading the contents, I knew I had to join the fun.  Why?  Well you see, once upon a time (hehe) I was introduced to the first book in a planned series by author Savannah Ostler.  It went by the name of Happily Ever After High School.  It was a fun reading affair that took us into the realm of fairytale redos but in a way I hadn't read before.  I laughed, I teared, I got my hopes up and in the end...was thoroughly happy with the adventure within.  So, you can imagine how my interest was peaked when I discovered this mysterious email talking about the upcoming SEQUEL!

That's right!
Albany French and "friends" are back and this time, we're heading to the hallowed halls of higher education...if she can survive the obstacles ahead of course.  *gulp*  Let's read a little more about it...

Once Upon a Time University
by
Savannah Ostler

About the book...
The enchanting sequel to “Happily Ever After High School”

After graduating Happily Ever High, eighteen year old Albany French was living the perfect fairy tale. She had her very own fairy godmother, a delightfully eccentric grandmother, and her boyfriend was her dream knight in shining armor.

At first, it seemed like a flawless freshman year for her at Once Upon A Time University. The campus was magical and enchanted, her classes were extraordinary, and she made surprising new friends.

A chain of unsettling events followed by a twist of fate sends Albany spinning. She is forced to make the most difficult decision of her life - one that could potentially break her heart. The perfect happily ever after was still within Albany’s grasp… or so she thought.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ooh.
I know I'm on pins and needles!
All the mystery and potential drama but with the fairytale magic we all love regardless of age...just admit it, you know you do.  Consider it added to my wish list, but you didn't come here JUST to read about it now did you?  You came to catch a glimpse of the cover.  Are you ready?  Are you sure?  I mean I could drag it out much MUCH longer if it'd be better for you?
Just kidding!
Even I can't wait to look at it again.
Ready, set, feast your eyes on this...
It's a beauty, right?
I love the castle in the background, the way they are lounging on the steps equals parts princess and everyday girl, the book in her hands, the illusion to them perhaps being by a fountain.  Shall I continue?  Nope. YOUR TURN!
Think quick!
Honest reactions.
Jot 'em down in the comments and let's spread the word on this forthcoming bookish treat!
Ally Hughes has Sex Sometimes by Jules Moulin
Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're tackling a new release to the Fiction genre that's sure to raise a few eyebrows at first glance.  Yes, it's one of THOSE books...and by that I mean one with a provocative title that may make some readers bashful and other boastful.  As for me, I contentedly read it in public with a little smirk, knowing that the reactions to it would be split like the Red Sea.  You know why I didn't care?  Because I read the story and while I'm one that certainly loves a quirky title, in the end I care about the journey and that, ladies and gentlemen, is what this one is all about.  Ready or not, here comes today's book of choice...
by
Jules Moulin
About the book...
When a buttoned-up professor and her unbuttoned daughter fall for the same irresistible man, a delightful, subversive comedy begins. . . .
Life isn’t easy for single mother Ally Hughes. Teaching at Brown, her class load is huge and her boss is a menace. At home, she contends with a critical mother, a falling-down house, and a daughter who never misses a beat. Between taking care of the people she loves, teaching full time, and making ends meet, Ally doesn’t have time for a man. She doesn’t date. She’s not into flings. But then she meets Jake, an eager student, young in years but old in soul, who challenges his favorite professor to open up her life, and her heart, to love. It doesn’t work. In fact, his urging backfires.
Ten years later, Ally’s still single. Jake reappears and surprises her in a brand-new role: He’s dating Ally’s now-grown daughter. In this hilarious, heartrending tale, Ally is finally forced to concede (not only to herself) that an independent, “liberated” woman can still make room in her life for love.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Where this story could have failed, it didn't.  Where this tale should have seemed drawn out, overly detailed, and utterly simple, it wasn't.  All the little parts that might have added up to it falling flat, aided it in prevailing with flying colors.

Did I sound too harsh?  Perhaps you think I was playing hardball and just didn't want to admit how much I enjoyed the story.  Quite the contrary actually; it was merely a statement of truths.  I have no problem admitting my admiration of the storytelling, the author's ability to juggle both past and present with finesse, and how the connections that are forged between the reader and the characters certainly feels real.  I was quite amazed actually that despite the chapters revolving around Ally's past all taking place within a two day span, there never seemed to be a dull moment, nor lapse in the memories shared. Talk about an earth-shattering experience!  Though there is an age difference, it's well within the range of acceptable by Johnny Q Public; it only seemed more risque because our professor is not one to take chances, especially those risking her heart...been there, done that..and of course the fact that when we flash forward to the present, her daughter is now seeing him. Well, for now... (consider that your tease...)

Ally is a truly likable character.  She's warm and kind, generous with her time, and despite the walls she's built to protect her heart, ready when it comes down to it to take the leap of faith necessary.  It may have taken her TEN YEARS to get there, but she's ready...if only she's presented with the chance.  I love her responsible nature, the internal dialogue she runs when trying to reason out what may or may not happen,  and the intense love she has for her daughter despite the rebukes she gets at every turn.  On the other hand, we've got Noah Bean aka Jake who seems to be that fabled White Knight most girls dream of with the good looks to complete the ensemble.  Even though you'll be tempted to call BS in response to his actions and motives at times, don't....see it through.  There's more to this gent than meets the eye, though that would be quite enough, and ten years on him only adds to the charm.

Despite what seems like a never ending love fest between lovers, friends, and family, there is a darkness here as well.  We've got body image issues that lead to obsession, sex-camming and the dirty secrets beyond what's being shared on the live stream, and secret lives that can tear apart families and estrange lovers or those to be.  I can certainly say I never saw any of that coming, but it fit seamlessly into the overall picture.   I did have one complaint though, the voice of Ally.  While I enjoyed her character and respected her choices, she was scattered brained at times and that made for a tougher read when navigating some of her conversations.  It created broken sentences and stuttered thoughts, not exactly what you think of when talking about a professor but it did make her more vulnerable, more human.

All in all, I was pulled in by the quirky title, and stayed for the story of two people that despite life and years, manage to stay together at heart.  It's not often you meet characters like these nor a story able to traverse the paths of yesterday while navigating the future.  We're reminded that following our hearts is never a bad thing, nor is giving ourselves a chance to love and be loved, despite the risks involved.  Recommended for adult readers due to the content shared during their initial weekend...hey, they weren't trading dissertations.

My thoughts exactly... Can't Fight This Feeling by Christie Ridgway

Hi guys!
Welcome back to the site that aims to bring you bookish fun every day of the week, or close to it at least, Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Yesterday, we brought you a SPECIAL GUEST POST from author Christie Ridgway as the TLC Book Tours END OF SUMMER BLOG TOUR stopped by.  She shared with us some fab ideas for the dwindling summer days with her 'Hot Days, Hot Dates' topic that's sure to add a little sweetness to end the season on a high note.  Speaking of sweetness...

As promised, today we are spending another day with the author's writing, but in this case, it's in the form of a book review!  (Imagine that...a book review...on THIS site.  Have you ever?!  ^-^)  I had the pleasure of reading her latest release (the same said title of which you can win - among others - by entering the END OF SUMMER BLOG TOUR giveaway going on now!) via Harlequin Books and though it was my first venture into her catalog of published works, it's doubtful it'll be my last.  Readers, get your mountain gear ready and steel your hearts because we're about to go "up the mountain" to all the temptations that Blue Arrow Lake has to offer.  Today's book of choice is...

by
Christie Ridgway
Mass Market Paperback: 384 pages
Publisher: HQN Books (June 30, 2015)

Welcome back to charming Blue Arrow Lake as temptation sizzles in a glittering new romance from USA TODAY bestselling author Christie Ridgway
Blue-collar landscaper Brett Walker has no interest in the Hollywood vacationers flocking to his hometown in the California mountains. But the scarred ex-soldier does have a duty to protect Blue Arrow Lake—and the family ski resort—from a serial burglar. So when he suspects a break-in, he takes action…and ends up catching sinfully tempting down-on-her-luck heiress Angelica Rodriguez. She reminds him of trouble, but he can’t deny her a safe place to stay—in one of his cabins.
Angelica has plenty of reasons to distrust—losing her money to her father’s legal woes being one of them. Getting up close and naughty with rough, tough and sexy Brett tempts her out of her comfort zone and into the arms of a man who’s not from her wealthy world. She’s after safety and he’s chasing justice, but the fire between them might reveal that all they want is each other.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's so much sizzle and sweetness with a touch of dark that once you start, you won't want to stop.  Eventually, you'll have to...because you've reached the book's end, but there are other stories to discover in the Blue Arrow Lake series.  But I digress, let's focus back on this one, my first foray into this author's works...
We've got a solid story line that's shared by two potential couples, a smattering of siblings, and a touch of darkness.  Some of the set up reminds me of other Contemporary Romance authors I'm a fan of, such as Kristan Higgins and Susan Mallery, but nowhere near a carbon copy, making it familiar in only the most lovely of ways.  Now, back to those elements mentioned.  The latter of that grouping (darkness)  is both internal and external, allowing the characters another dimension of "realness" to which readers can relate (though hopefully not in a direct sense considering what their secrets are).  Our leads have some issues to work through (valid though they are) as does the town with its recent string of crimes, but the combination of potential love blooming, familial ties, and a little mystery that needs solving before someone gets hurt, will keep you turning pages til the last.  Let's take a closer look at those characters...
Take one former uptown princess, add a HEAPING MOUND of scandal though not of her own doing, wipe away all the wealth and advantage they were use to, add an experience no one should ever have, and gently place a heart of gold within...you've got Angelica in a nutshell.  She's traveled up the mountain to escape the reality that is her life, but some thing you can't leave behind no matter how hard you try and others find you when you're least expecting it.  Enter one Brett Walker.  He's the former help (did the lawn work at Angelica's family estate years back) who's always had an eye for Ms. Rodriguez, but would never act on the impulse out of respect...for their differences.  Yeah, respect is a lofty word here because it was more he figured they were from two different worlds that weren't meant to mix.  Flash forward to today, he's a man's man with a protective streak a mile long, for his family, friends, and particular damsels in distress.  At times boarish and most definitely a "guy" (interpret that as you will), beneath the appealingly scruffy exterior is a man that's seen his share of pain, but perhaps with the right touch, his heart may be freed of its steely cage.  Love at first sight for these two?  Hardly...lust, certainly...but it's funny how things can change.
Though the main focus is on Brett and Angelica, there is another potential pair in the works here.  Glory is a long time mountain girl, born and bred; Kyle is a newcomer who seems too good to be true, but without any direct indications of why.  You want to believe it's THAT easy.  It SHOULD be that easy...but just like Glory, you can't quite put your finger on what may or may not be there. I must say as much as I was rooting for our lead couple, I was also interested in seeing how Glory's story would play out.  She too deserved happiness after all, and boy was Kyle intent on getting back into her good graces!  A marching band....seriously?  A marching band?  ^-^  Their story just adds another layer to an already delightful tale that'll keep you coming back for more.
To conclude (since I see I'm getting long winded again), it was a delightful story filled with hardship, those learning to trust, and ultimately the lesson of following our hearts.  What's that saying?  If we never take the chance, how can we expect to fall?  A hard lesson to learn but one that is illustrated here perfectly.  Recommended read for adult readers as there are a few "fun times" that are not so PG-rated, but they are fewer in number than the playful flirting and seductive glances so it still rates well in my book.
Welcome back to charming Blue Arrow Lake as temptation sizzles in a glittering new romance from USA TODAY bestselling author Christie Ridgway
Blue-collar landscaper Brett Walker has no interest in the Hollywood vacationers flocking to his hometown in the California mountains. But the scarred ex-soldier does have a duty to protect Blue Arrow Lake—and the family ski resort—from a serial burglar. So when he suspects a break-in, he takes action…and ends up catching sinfully tempting down-on-her-luck heiress Angelica Rodriguez. She reminds him of trouble, but he can’t deny her a safe place to stay—in one of his cabins.
Angelica has plenty of reasons to distrust—losing her money to her father’s legal woes being one of them. Getting up close and naughty with rough, tough and sexy Brett tempts her out of her comfort zone and into the arms of a man who’s not from her wealthy world. She’s after safety and he’s chasing justice, but the fire between them might reveal that all they want is each other.
Sounds good, right?
So far, I most certainly agree!
I am currently reading through it myself (come back tomorrow for the review!) and thus far, thoroughly enjoying it.  Brett and Angelica are an explosion waiting to happen while Glory and Kyle are the unexpected pair with surprises of their own to be revealed.  Can't wait to see how it all plays out, and speaking of played out...
This tour is celebrating the last days of summer, right?  It's filled with Contemporary Romance titles and authors that should know a thing or two about making the most of the fading summer sun...am I right?  Well then, it'd only be fitting to get THEIR opinion on the matter...and that's just what we did.  Author Christie Ridgway was kind enough to share her take on making a few more summer memories to take us right through the winter all toasty and warm.  Guys?  Pay attention.  Gals?  Choose your favorites!  Please join me in welcoming, author Christie Ridgway!
Hot Days, Hot Dates
by USA TODAY bestselling author Christie Ridgway
As the end of summer approaches, it’s time to wring out all the romance you can from the sunny days and starry nights. I live in SoCal and consider myself a sort of expert on summer because we have so much summer-like weather. So I’ve gathered together some of my favorite romantic date ideas for you to consider…that is, when you’re not stretched out in the shade with a good book.
If you and your man enjoy the out-of-doors…
Pick up some tickets to attend a baseball game. There’s nothing that gets a guy out of the house faster than the prospect of a cold drink, a bag of peanuts and a chance to cheer on the home team together. At the end of the game, share a kiss to celebrate or commiserate—either one will do!
Is there an outdoor theater nearby? Grab a blanket to snuggle under and watch a play beneath the stars. Maybe there’s an old-fashioned drive-in around, or the local municipal pool sponsors evening movies you can enjoy while floating in inner tubes.
Have you taken the opportunity to watch the sunset this summer? Find a great vantage point and bring your fave beverage along with some cheese and crackers. Toast to the season and the beauty of the world.
If your guy and you want to expend a few of those ice-cream-cone calories…
How about an early morning hike followed by a breakfast at your favorite omelet-and-pancake
place? Start out before it gets too hot and you’ll glow with good health and well-being all day long.
Take your significant other to your local waters (ocean or lake) to try paddle-boarding. If that feels too daunting, I love the kayaks that are fitted with pedals. The paddle-only kind are fun, too, and provide great practice in romantic cooperation—you get in sync or you go in circles.
If you want to dial down the strenuousness, have you tried boccie ball or croquet? The sets are inexpensive and you can use them at home or take them to the park. Pack a lunch and it’s a great date.
When it’s too hot to move…
We often have an at-home movie marathon. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a good choice or fit as many of the Star Wars franchise movies as you can into your day. Of course, there’s the binge watching of a new-to-you television series. When the temps are high, turn on the AC or the fan and find togetherness in another world.
Share music! We play a game where we alternate pulling up videos of songs we love. This is fun to do as a couple or with others, as well. Parked in front of the flat screen with a pitcher of something cold and internet access, you can hum away the torrid temps.
Speaking of a pitcher of something cold… When the thermostat is edging upward, now is the time to visit that shady sidewalk bistro that has always caught your eye. Get a glass of wine or a tall lemonade and watch the world go by. Or is there a new brew pub you’ve been meaning to try? Your man will love the idea of the two of you bonding while taste testing a flight of beers
Whatever you do, remember that romance (the reading of it or the experiencing of it) is perfect for any season!  Do you have any other summer date night ideas? Share with us in the comments section below!
