AWARENESS TOUR: Alycat and the Sunday Scaries by Alysson Foti Bourque, Illustrated by Chiara Civati - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Today, we welcome The Children's Book Review as we join their AWARENESS TOUR already in progress featuring the latest addition to a FUNTASTIC kid's series you won't want to miss!  Let's get between the pages of author Alysson Foti Bourque's recent release that stars your favorite feline friend and mine...

About the book...
It’s Sunday, the day before the school week begins, and Alycat is nervous. She just knows that Monday is going to be the Mondayest Monday ever! On the playground, Alycat realizes she isn’t the only one suffering from the Sunday Scaries. It’s hard to ride a bike. What if Kit falls? The treehouse is so high. Will Spotty make it safely back down? The kittens band together to overcome their fears, but can they turn the Sunday Scaries into a Sunday Funday? The themes of the books in the Alycat Series all reflect a reliance on friendships, imagination, and creativity toward problem-solving.

Fans of Alycat and her friends will enjoy spotting references to the kittens’ daily adventures within these pages. Tips for a successful lemonade stand are included!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alycat and friends are back and they are facing down the Monday Blues, or in this case, the SUNDAY SCARIES!  Think about it...Monday gets a bad rep for kicking off the week, but Sunday follows close behind because it means the end of the weekend.  It means it's time to worry about everything coming at you in the week...or is it?  I mean, you can't enjoy the present, if you're borrowing tomorrow's troubles, right?  So, as they say, with a little help from her friends and for her friends, Alycat learns that Sundays need not cause sadness, nor Mondays elicit a groan.  There's plenty to enjoy in the here and now PLUS so much to look forward to further along in the week; all it takes is a little confidence.  You'll never get to enjoy that special visit, or celebrate that holiday, or enjoy a planned afternoon with friends, if you don't push through the days preceding to get to the reward!
With a friendly cat cast, and colorful images, Alycat reminds readers of all ages of the important things in life...friends, family, and fun!  There's something to be learned from all three, and while there's always something in life to worry about, the turning of the calendar page/day shouldn't be one of them.  Join this wonderful group of friends, and reshape your view of the day dreaded by many that never really deserved the reputation in the first place.
Rockstar Book Tours presents... OTHERWORLDLY by F.T. Lukens - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!
I am thrilled to be hosting a spot on the OTHERWORLDLY by F.T. Lukens Blog Tour hosted by Rockstar Book Tours. Check out my post and make sure to enter the giveaway before you check it the rest of the tour!
OTHERWORLDLY
by  F.T. Lukens
Pub. Date: April 2, 2024
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books
Formats: Hardcover, eBook, Audiobook
Pages: 352
Find it: Goodreadshttps://books2read.com/OTHERWORLDLY
A skeptic and a supernatural being make a crossroads deal to achieve their own ends only to get more than they bargained for in this lively young adult romantic adventure from the New York Times bestselling author of Spell Bound and So This Is Ever After.
Seventeen-year-old Ellery is a non-believer in a region where people swear the supernatural is real. Sure, they’ve been stuck in a five-year winter, but there’s got to be a scientific explanation. If goddesses were real, they wouldn’t abandon their charges like this, leaving farmers like Ellery’s family to scrape by.
Knox is a familiar from the Other World, a magical assistant sent to help humans who have made crossroads bargains. But it’s been years since he heard from his queen, and Knox is getting nervous about what he might find once he returns home. When the crossroads demons come to collect Knox, he panics and runs. A chance encounter down an alley finds Ellery coming to Knox’s rescue, successfully fending off his would-be abductors.
Ellery can’t quite believe what they’ve seen. And they definitely don’t believe the nonsense this unnervingly attractive guy spews about his paranormal origins. But Knox needs to make a deal with a human who can tether him to this realm, and Ellery needs to figure out how to stop this winter to help their family. Once their bargain is struck, there’s no backing out, and the growing connection between the two might just change everything.
 “Hints of both Shakespeare’s The Tempest and the CW television show Supernatural flavor this tale in Lukens’ hallmark fashion. Notably, in a genre that has recently favored older readers, this story is accessible to teens of all ages. Its broad appeal, engaging pacing, and quest-like plot structure (which features cameos from deities inspired by Greek mythology) create a transition point for younger teens comfortable with Rick Riordan Presents … This beautifully struck balance couples with a unique perspective on genre canon to create a light but nuanced story that will be a joy for teens.”– Booklist, starred review
“Lukens impresses with this romantic adventure starring a skeptic and an excitable liminal being … Lukens’s signature blend of complex yet accessible mythology, queer-normative worldbuilding, and high emotional stakes makes for a compulsively readable tale.”– Publishers Weekly
“An irresistible elixir of romance and suspense.”– Kirkus Reviews
“A nice touch of Midwestern spookiness underlines a tale of classic crossroads bargains, first (and maybe lasting) love, thinly veiled climate anxiety, and chosen family. The mythic and the realistic are well balanced, and the relationships between characters will win over even the most grudging of romantics. Prickly Ellery and fun-loving Knox are an adorable grumpy-sunshine pair, and Ellery’s chaotic cousin and her girlfriend, plus some supernatural figures, round out the background to their world-bridging romance. Largely angst-free, wryly funny, and emotionally satisfying, this novel is tailor-made for a Netflix adaptation.”– BCCB
I love the connections in this one, and even the broken paths some of them seem to follow. Ellery has a family, but lives apart from those immediately theirs for difference of opinions, or rather lost faith. They still keep in touch (sometimes), send money back to support the farm during this ten year winter (which is not always used as intended), and hold to a shred of hope, no matter how small, that one day things will return to normal. Knox is an unexpected, yet happy distraction, for both the rekindling of beliefs left behind as well as the eye candy. Hey, the world doesn't go round on persistence alone! 😉 Anyway, they come to need one another more than either ever imagined possible, and as they work towards an end that'll meet both their needs, the question remains... what about them? A ten year winter is detrimental to the environment and the livelihood of their town, but what about the heart?
If you're a Young Adult Fantasy fan, this book needs to be on your must read list...as well as the author's other works! For the story, for the characters, for the inclusiveness that is a common theme, the books welcome readers of all backgrounds, and identities, to enjoy a grand adventure through the pages.
RRR presents... In The Shadow Of War by Adrienne Chinn - REVIEW!
Time to step into the past with an author who's proved her talent twice over already! On tour now with Rachel's Random Resources, we're celebrating the final installment of the Fry Sisters trilogy by Adrienne Chinn. Make room on your shelf for today's ebook of choice...
In The Shadow Of War
 by
Adrienne Chinn
About the book...
One war may be over, but their fight for survival continues…
For sisters Etta, Jessie and Celie Fry, the Great War and the hardships of the years that followed have taken a heavy toll.
Determined to leave her painful past behind her, Etta heads to the bright lights of Hollywood whilst Jessie, determined to train as a doctor and use her skills to help others, is hampered by the men who dominate her profession. On the vast, empty plains of the Canadian prairies, Celie and her small family stand on the brink of losing everything.
As whispers of a new war make their way to each sister, each must face the possibility of the unthinkable happening again…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Oh these books have always been filled with so much emotion, so many familial connections, so many attempts to triumph over adversity, and so much hope for the future. Times haven't been easy for any of the sisters, or their mother for that matter, but there was always one thing they could count on...each other. Though they each had their own paths to walk, their own truths to tell, their own loves to find, and their own futures to build, and they were certainly strong enough to see the hard times through (even if it didn't seem so at the time), they always knew they could turn to one another for that extra boost. They always knew no matter how far away they were, or the circumstances in which they may find themselves, they were connected at heart. They already know the horrors that war can bring, and how fleeting life can be. To have to face the possibility of that all over again is beyond words, and yet to turn a blind eye is not an option.

The author takes us through life's paces with each sister, sharing the good, the bad, and the survivable... and by story's end, you won't want to let go. You'll be prepared to, but given everything we've seen, and experienced, it feels like saying goodbye to a member of your own family... good thing rereading is always an option.  😉  A great way to close out the trilogy, and a wonderful pick for Historical Fiction fans looking for a story they won't soon forget.

RRR presents... The Lady's Proposal For The Laird by Jeanine Englert - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Time to return to a land across the waters, where history takes a breath daily, and family means everything. On tour now with Rachel's Random Resources, the latest release from author Jeanine Englert that takes place in the Scottish Highlands with a clan we've come to know bit by bit, and yet they've still secrets to uncover. Ladies and gents, let's step between the epages of today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...

The Lady's Proposal For The Laird
by
 Jeanine Englert
Harlequin Books

A betrothal bargain
With the Highlander from her past

When Susanna Cameron needs to thwart her brothers’ plan to marry her off, she turns to her childhood sweetheart, Laird Rowan Campbell, with a daring proposal—to be her pretend betrothed! In exchange, she’ll help the now-hardened Rowan get revenge on the man who killed his family. The only flaw in Susanna’s plan—their returning attraction!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's one thing I really like about this series...it all comes down to family. Whether it's the brother's trying to protect their sister, the sister trying to protect the family, those married into the clan trying to protect their adopted family, or those potentially in love that would like to find out whether there is more there or not protecting the they might be in love with...it's like the mafia with kilts. Okay, dramatic comparison, but you catch my drift, right? If there is someone is trouble, they are there for them. If there is a vendetta to carry out, they are there no questions asked. If wrongs need righting, come heck or high water, it will be done.
What starts as the brothers trying to protect the family turns into a sister taking the issue at heart into her own hands, and uncovering more than tightly held family secrets, but a love that could rightfully save them all. Susanna is a force, as is Rowan, but they go together like fire and ice. They may rub each other the wrong way, but the sparks that are flying are enough to set the night afire... once they each get beyond what is holding their hearts back.  Seeing them butt heads, and trade jabs was like watching old friends become something more... we saw the potential, but they had to as well.
A great addition to the series that can also be read as a stand alone, and the perfect pick for Historical Romance fans looking for their next escape!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

About the author...

Jeanine Englert’s love affair with mysteries and romance began with Nancy Drew, Murder She Wrote, and her Grandmother’s bookshelves full of romance novels. She is a VIVIAN® and Golden Heart® Finalist as well as a Silver Falchion, Maggie, and Daphne du Maurier Award Winner in historical romance and mystery. Her Scottish Highland historical and historical romantic suspense novels revolve around characters seeking self-acceptance and redemption. When she isn’t wrangling with her characters on the page, she can be found trying to convince her husband to watch her latest Masterpiece or BBC show obsession. She loves to talk about books, writing, her beloved rescue pups, as well as mysteries and romance with other readers. Visit her website at www.jeaninewrites.com.

RRR presents... The Bordeaux Book Club by Gillian Harvey - REVIEW!

Once upon a time, there was a story with a gorgeous cover, written by an author whose previous journeys we've read and became a part of, with a fabulous sounding synopsis just screaming to be read. Read it, I did, and so today, we welcome Rachel's Random Resources as we host a spot on the tour going on now!

The Bordeaux Book Club
 by
Eva Glynn

About the book...
Love books? The Bordeaux Book Club is seeking new members!

When Leah and her husband moved to France, it was with the dream of becoming self-sufficient.

 But in truth, it’s not the ‘good life’ she’d imagined, as three hours of digging barely yields a single straggly carrot. Worse, her teenage daughter is acting up, and her husband seems to find every strange excuse under the hot French sun to disappear.

So when her friend entreats her to join the new bookclub she’s forming, Leah decides it’s something she will do for herself. The chance to make new friends, to drink a few glasses of wine, and to escape into stories that take her miles away from the life she’d thought would be her own happy-ever-after.

But the book club is a strange group of misfits. There’s prickly Grace, who lives alone and seems to know everybody and like no-one. Buttoned-up Monica, who says her husband is away and appears to be parenting her baby all alone. Handsome builder George, who has barely read a book before. And Alfie – who is a full two decades younger than everyone else, and is hiding a devastating secret…

As the stories they read begin to bring the new friends closer together, Leah is about to discover that happy-ever-afters don’t always look how you expect them to…

A gorgeously escapist read from the bestselling author of A Year at the French Farmhouse, perfect for fans of Veronica Henry, Jo Thomas and Fiona Valpy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A wonderful group of friends, and a gorgeously told story, author Gillian Harvey's talent for bringing people together shines through. Whether it be on the page with her characters, or off the page between bookish friends, your heart will be touched once you embark on one of her stories.
It's a story that shows us the power of the written word to inspire, to motivate, to lift us up when we're feeling down, and to shelter us when we're not sure where to turn. It's a tale that reminds us that while surrounding ourselves with these wordy escapes is a good thing, learning who we can lean on in times of happiness and sorrow is just as important. This motley crew are not the usual "offenders" one might anticipate showing up for a book club, but they all end up being chosen family by book's end... and that, my friend, is not a title to take lightly.
A definite recommendation for fans of the author's previous works as well as those just embarking on their bookish journey that fancy Women's Fiction filled with great friends in the making, change as an everyday factor of life, and the potential for love as a part of their overall happily-ever-afters.
We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with Storybook Sunday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday appears every now and then!
Next month, Earth Day is upon us, and while every day is TECHNICALLY a day worthy to celebrate the planet we live on, April 22nd, 2024 is THE day this year.  Are you ready?  Do you have your party planned, your clean-up organized...your reading sorted?  😉  Well then, I can definitely help you out on that last part.  The two storybooks we're featuring today make PERFECT additions to your festivities, while spreading the word about sustainable gardening, utilizing resources, the circle of life from seed to table, and a gentle reminder of how small, or big, our place in this world truly is. Ready to discover more?  Ladies and gents, take a gander at today's featured titles...
Doubleday Books for Young Readers
Release Date:  03/12/24
This was a great take on the classic of old. It gives us a female farmer, planting vegetables of all shapes and sizes, caring for them from seed to table, and back again. It's filled with clever rhymes to keep the story rolling, and encourage readers to not only learn a thing or two about the life cycle of these sustainable farming options, but sing along too! I loved the variety of vegetables she grew and harvested, the bright illustrations throughout, the fact page at book's end, and a recipe to try with your new vege knowhow. It's a great story for any time, and a fun way to celebrate Earth Day as we remember why it's so important to take care of our home.
This curious tale tells of a speck, hence the title, as it makes its way through this great big world. Think about a drop of water in comparison to the ocean... and then think smaller. The thing is that a tiny little speck can spark life in many shapes and sizes; it just has to find where it belongs. The same can be said about all living things, great, small, and in-between. We're all big in some spaces, and incredibly small in others, but once we find our place, we can grow and become all we aim to be. It doesn't have to be alone, the journey, nor the settling, but it does have to be gone through... and in the end, the rewards are always worth the effort.
With striking illustrations throughout, you'll feel the magic and wonder as if you were the speck yourself, while being reminded that we're all specks, in a sense, making our way through the world one day, one decision at a time. The Earth Day aspect kicks in with the celebration of life in all its stages, and how everything is meant to work together in harmony, helping the world go round.
