AWARENESS TOUR: Tiki Time: It's My Turn, by Creator JJ and illustrated by Humouring the Fates Animation Studio - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Welcome back friends!
Today, we're heading out on another adventure with The Children's Book Review as we take part in their AWARENESS TOUR featuring Tiki Time:  It's My Turn.  Now, before you say anything, you're not experiencing deja vu.  I did feature this title once upon a time (last year, here's the post), but THIS celebration isn't just about the story...although I will be sharing my thoughts in a moment.  THIS POST is about the fact that the story now has a READ ALONG feature to make it even more interactive for kiddos!  That's right!  You can join the read along fun over on YouTube, so check out my post, explore the other sites participating in the tour, ENTER THE GIVEAWAY, and then head over to the read along for more fun!

About the book...
Tiki is an honest, fun, and adventurous boy full of integrity. Lately, his behavior has been too rambunctious and he needs guidance. He meets a magical spirit who gives him the guidance he is looking for and much more. The spirit grants him magical powers and sends him on a quest to save the village of TikiTown from the evil King Lauia. Come join Tiki and his friends as they go on a magical time-traveling journey to save TikiTown. Tiki and his friends must find King Lauia, take back the sacred magical Toku Mask, and return the mask to Tiki Town to unfreeze the town. If Tiki doesn’t succeed, TikiTown will remain frozen forever…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tiki is all the things he thinks and more, though a little slice of humble pie goes a long way.  What I mean is that while confidence is grand, accepting the fact that we can't do it all on our own helps us grow....and that's a GOOD thing! Friendship builds strong bonds.  Helping others realize the best in themselves not only lets them shine, but allows us to share the spotlight too.  Teamwork makes the dream work, and this group of vastly talented friends are about to make the ultimate dream come true as they quest to save their village!
It was a great adventure with obstacles to overcome, challenges to conquer, and realizations to be made, but overall, it was a story that while infused with magic, it's not so otherworldly that kiddos won't relate.  ON TOP OF THAT, we've now got that READ ALONG version I mentioned, and, by jove, they've really got something there!  I checked it out, and, honestly guys, it added another unexpected element of fun to enjoy!  A great pick for wee readers and beyond, and the read along part exposes new readers to the beauty of audiobooks too!
Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY wishes to... LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP by Virginia Heath!
Hi guys!
Welcome back!  Today's second, but equally spectacular post features the latest addition to the Miss Prentice’s Protegees series by author Virginia Heath...
From the publisher...
Nine years ago, Lord Guy Harrowby, Viscount Wennington, was publicly humiliated by a failed and reckless romantic gesture. Despite this, his mother clings to the promise he made her then: that she would have a house full of grandchildren by his thirtieth birthday. Still single, embittered, and swiftly approaching thirty, Guy's work is his life. In desperation, his mother blindsides Guy with a weeklong house party at his estate filled with annoying debutantes, all competing to be his wife.
After failing as a governess, Lottie Travers is struggling as a lady’s companion. Raised in an all-male household, she’s developed habits that get her dismissed. Even after years of Miss Prentice’s teachings of how to be a lady, she climbs trees better than she embroiders and can’t resist riding horses astride, in breeches. But with the family farm in trouble, and her father now in dire need of her wages, she’s determined to conquer her wildness once and for all.
Even with his home full of eligible women, there is only one who catches Guy’s eye—though he tries to deny it. For Lottie, succeeding in her new role proves difficult when the Wennington estate is filled with horses, and a spark ignites between her and the grumpy lord. Will they remain stuck in their ways, or learn that they may just be the perfect match?
FROM ME...
I've said it before and I'll say it again, THIS IS ONE OF MY AUTO BUY AUTHORS! 🙌 Seriously! Every work I've tried, I've enjoyed. She's got a real knack for creating characters you want to know in worlds you want to visit and situations you either would love to trade places to be in or die of embarrassment 😳, but you're right there the whole time through thick and thin! This latest release is no different, and yet worth the read tenfold. Don't believe me? The perfect cure for disbelief is trying it for yourself!
So HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY to the latest addition to her catalog and the second installment of the MISS PRENTICE'S PROTEGEES series! If you're a Historical Fiction fan, do not miss this author more this series... available now via St Martin's Griffin.
AWARENESS TOUR: The Tales of Charlie Wags: Paris by Ali Barclay and SofieWells, Illustrated by Sanna Sjöström - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!
Welcome back, fair readers!
Today, we're joining The Children's Book Review for their latest AWARENESS TOUR starring the next BIG installment of The Tales of Charlie Wags series...and you'll never guess where he's going next!  Ladies and gents, kiddos of all ages, grab a croissant and your favorite reading spot as we set out to explore between the epages of today's featured title...
The Tales of Charlie Wags: Paris
by
Ali Barclay and SofieWells
Illustrated by
Sanna Sjöström
Ages: 3-7 | 40 Pages
9798990005037
Kendam Press (2025)
About the book...
Charlie Wags is a seemingly ordinary pup. He asks for belly rubs, plays fetch, and uses his “I’m innocent” look when he is in fact guilty.
But Charlie has an extraordinary secret. He loves to travel the world and has a special trick to do so: his wagging tail can whisk him away to far-off places.
This time, he’s off to Paris, France!
Embark on a panoramic tour of Paris led by ever-curious pup, Charlie Wags! From the elegant art in the Louvre to the sparkling Eiffel Tower, Charlie explores the City of Lights before returning home for bedtime.
Wherever you may be, The World Is Just a Wag Away ™
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today's adventure takes us around the world and back again with our favorite four-legged friend, Charlie!  With a little wag of his tail, we're off and running to the Lourve, Notre Dame, the Palace of Versailles, and the freshest pastries that a classic sidewalk cafe can offer.  That's right!  His little tail swish took us all the way to Paris, where we can take in the sights, imagine the sounds, and perhaps plan for a future trip all our own to explore EVEN MORE!  Floating down the Seine and seeing the sparkling lights of the Eiffel Tower at night are simply magical, and the illustrations really bring it to life, but the sparks to the imagination that these stories pack are simply enchanting!  Our little furry friend manages to convey the magic that awaits us around the world, while reminding us that home is where the heart is.

A lovely addition to this growing series, and a chance for little readers to break out of that cabin fever (literarily speaking) and explore the world all around!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sister-author duo Ali Barclay and Sofie Wells form the writing team behind The Tales of Charlie Wags picture book series. The series offers young explorers a conversational understanding of the world’s most famous cities.

As daughters of immigrants, their family heritage exposed the sisters to the importance of cultural diversity early on. Their parents prioritized showing them the world, even on a tight budget. This instilled in them the idea that travel is one of the best forms of education.

Recognizing that not all children had the chance to explore the world firsthand, Sofie and Ali saw an opportunity to share their travel experiences with other families and children through charming stories that make far-off places accessible.

She found that her iPad was accessible in just seconds; so, she started mimicking watercolor digitally.

She now illustrates for children’s books, but also creates posters, cards, and digital illustration tools. Her biggest inspiration comes from flowers and nature. Sanna’s mission is to brighten your day and make you smile through her art.

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY WEEK to... Threat of the Spider by Michael P. Spradlin - REVIEW!

It's almost that time again.
Time for another BOOK BIRTHDAY celebration, and while this one actually takes place TOMORROW, I figured why not spark up the anticipation today.  😉  So, if you're a fan of Historical Fiction, and are looking for a story from a younger perspective that takes place during a heavy time in history, today's featured title is right up your alley.  Take a closer look between the pages of...

The Web of the Spider series, Book 2
by
Michael P. Spradlin
9781665947213
Margaret K. McElderry Books
Release Date: 06/24/25

About the book...
Ansel has never been afraid to say what’s on his mind. He’s always the first among his friends to speak up when something doesn’t feel right. When the Hitler Youth first set up shop in Heroldsberg the year before, Ansel quickly made enemies of the chapter’s arrogant leader, Hans. Of course, Ansel is also twelve years old, so he spends much of his time reading his favorite Dirk Goodly, Boy Detective novels and trying to make his friends laugh.

But more and more of his classmates have been swayed by Hans’s tactics and the Youth organization is growing throughout the city. Ansel knows that Hans and his group are spreading false information—after all, Ansel’s father is a journalist for the local paper and has been going toe to toe with Nazi propaganda for a long time.

Then Ansel’s father goes missing right before a prominent Nazi leader comes to town. With the local police in the Nazi’s pocket, can Ansel and his friends use their detective skills to find his father and thwart the Nazi’s plans to suppress the truth?

🕷  🕸  🕷  🕸  🕷  🕸  🕷

This is the SECOND INSTALLMENT in The Web of the Spider series and picks up just where the first left off.  Does that mean you can't read them out of order?  No, I think it works as a standalone, but then again the length of the stories definitely lends more heft to reading them BOTH, you know?  😉  Anywho...

In this second installment, we are back with our friends, but this time, it's not Romer and Rolf who are the focus.  This time, we're seeing the story more so from the eyes of Ansel.  He's got a unique perspective as well because his father is a reporter and definitely not a sympathizer with the enemy, so the stakes are high for the whole family.  The Hitler Youth are taking a firmer hold in the area, and, with the impending visit of a higher up in command, so are bigger players in this violent "game".  While one can say to stick to your convictions, it's hard in the face of evil, and some succumb to the peer pressure.  Luckily, that's not the case for our friend group here, and extra lucky for Ansel's father who ends up an unexpected pawn in a game he wasn't even playing.

The danger is high and the risks are real, but so is the history behind it all.  It's important to know the "ugly" that transpired to learn the lesson and carry forward the truth, so it's not repeated in another generation.  It's also important to know that even in the midst of darkness, light can be found.  Friendship can still blossom.  Hearts can still beat fast.  Justice can still be fought for.  Good can still triumph over evil...one instance at a time.  A great pick for fans of the genre, as well as kiddos trying to get a firmer grasp on the past.

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... (La)Crosse My Heart by Britney M. Mills - REVIEW!

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY wishes are in order for the latest addition to the SWEET SPORTS KISSES 💋 series from author Britney M. Mills...

About the book...
He’s a pro on the field—but a disaster in front of a camera. She’s got one rule: no falling for clients.

Clark
I can dodge defenders and score from midfield, but stick a camera in front of me and I fall apart. After one brutal interview clip went viral, I’ve done everything I can to avoid the spotlight. Now my team’s bringing in some PR fixer to clean up my image.

Great. Just what I need.

Except the fixer turns out to be her.

Jessa Stratton—my best friend’s older sister, the girl who always rolled her eyes at me, and now the one person I’m definitely not allowed to fall for. Too bad my heart didn’t get the memo.

Jessa
I’ve worked hard to build my career helping athletes manage the media—and I follow one rule: never date a client.

So of course my next assignment is Clark Denton. My brother’s best friend. The guy who stole my car and brought it back looking like a disco ball.

But he’s not just the cocky player I remember. He’s focused, vulnerable, unexpectedly thoughtful… and I’m starting to see way too much good in him.

I just have to keep it professional. Easy, right?
Right?

🥍  🥍  🥍  🥍  🥍  🥍

Brother's friend falling for the little sister, only this is many years after either were little, and the brother isn't there to actually prevent anything from happening. 😉

Don't get me wrong! Jessa is a professional, but she's had one REALLY LONG bad relationship that just ended (good riddance!), and the change of scenery that's brought her back to familiar territory isn't unwelcome; in fact, it was a choice, even if the client was unexpected. Clark is a serious athlete, but he needs more than just a pretty face, and warm heart to reach the next level in his sport. He needs to get out of his head when the cameras are turned on him, or he'll risk putting himself on the sidelines over a PR fail earlier in his career. Familiar faces can't hurt when it comes to sorting out both of their future paths, but what if they happened to (LA)CROSSE more than just professionally...and for the better?

Pardon the obvious wordplay there, I couldn't resist! 🙃 This was my first time reading a book in this series, but I must say, I rather enjoyed it! The characters were likable, and relatable. There was so much heart displayed in both our leads, I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite... seriously, don't make me do it! The story, while novella in length, was still long enough to carry my interest, and had enough backstory to get me into their world without a backward glance. While I can't say I know a lot about the sport, it wasn't written in technical terms that a non-player/fan wouldn't be able to follow, and in fact might spark some interest for others to learn more!

The perfect chance for a weekend reading escape with plenty of other titles to explore should you desire more!

A little bit of magic can go a long way, but teamwork makes the dream work.

My heart ached when I saw the little star friends caught in the kelp on shore, but leapt with joy when the turtles 🐢 showed up to the rescue! The question was though... was the task too great? Intentions are wonderful, but how can two little turtles save all those little sea friends in time?! Not to worry, my fellow readers, they knew that while their flippers could carry a few, many flippers, and wings, and other things, could help carry the lot. By realizing they needed help, and not being afraid to ask for it, these friends pulled together and get these little stars just where they need to be...in the sea to frolic and thrive, and perhaps one day be seen by curious divers like you and me!

A great way to show the power of friendship, andthe strength in helping to share a load too big for one, while being dazzled by the lovely land, sea, and air scenes that come to life before your eyes.

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... The Ground that Devours Us by Kalla Harris - REVIEW!

 THE GROUND THAT DEVOURS US
by
Kalla Harris
Entangled Teen

About the book...

The world ended ten years ago.

Vampires showed up, took over, and turned the whole planet into their personal all-you-can-drink buffet. The president? Bloodsucker. The government? Bloodsuckers. My social life? Absolutely nonexistent.

But hey, at least I had one thing going for me—slayer training. My twin sister, Ripley, and I were about to go pro, officially joining the ranks of the last people on earth who actually do something about the whole “undead overlords” situation.

And then X had to show up. The vampire boogeyman. The worst of the worst. And instead of killing Ripley, like any decent monster would, he turned her. Now she’s technically a vamp, but something tells me my sister is still in there. Which means I can’t slay her.

What can I do? Break every rule. Lie to my friends. Strike a deal with the most dangerous vampire on the planet: X will protect Ripley from everyone else who wants her dead—like, really dead—until I can snag the cure for vampirism. The catch? Risking my own head to help him free his good-for-nothing BFF from the very slayers who taught me everything.

If I want Ripley back, I’m going to have to play nice with the thing that ruined my life. And the worst part?

I think he’s enjoying this.

🦇 🦇 🦇 🦇 🦇 🦇 🦇 🦇 🦇

This is definitely more of a "protect-my-loved-ones-even-though-they-are-now-undead" story than a romance, so if you're thinking Twilight-esque, meh... not so much. To me, that's not a bad thing! I don't mind when a story draws you in with similarities, but I love when they stand on their own literary feet, and I think this one does!

🌟 The things the vampires are able to do are varied, how they turn new ones into, well, new ones...unique. I gotta say their preferred method of travel is rather fascinating. I've never read nor watched a vampire lore story that included something like this, so major points on creativity to the author for spiking my curiosity, and I was certainly invested in the story to see who was really the "bad guy", if there was a chance at redemption (and what form it might take), and simply how it would all play out.

I admit, the pace is the storyline threw me a little bit though. We start out in the thick of things and full steam ahead... and then sorta drop into days/weeks passing where we really don't make any discernable progress seemingly worth the time that's expired. Overall, it only causes a little friction, but certainly not enough to stall the story.

About the book...

 There is nothing Ellie wants more than to become a ballerina.

Every day she practices her stretches, leaps, twirls, and jumps. But Ellie doesn’t believe in herself. Her self-doubt gets in the way, and when she stretches, she slips. When she bends, she falls over. When she leaps, she slides. When she twirls or jumps, she gets all twisted and slumped over.

Until one day, her parents gave Ellie her grandmother’s magical dancing shoes. Soon, there are only graceful jumps, beautiful leaps, and dizzying twirls.

When the day of Ellie’s audition to become a ballerina arrives, her magic dancing shoes are lost. Will Ellie find them in time before her audition, or must she perform without them?

A beautifully illustrated story that shows children that their magic can be found within.

All Ellie wants to do is dance, or more specifically be a BALLERINA.  I remember taking classes myself as a child, and while I didn't harbor dreams of becoming a professional, I don't blame Ellie in the least!

The beauty, the grace, the strength, the talent... all these things and more that ballerinas tend to embody are wonderful attributes to have and strive for, and there's no reason Ellie can't be all of this too. The only thing is... she tends to get in her own way. She let's the little voice in her head that can feed our fears of failure, trip her dancing feet, and tumble her dreaming heart. Her parents see this and do what loving parents do... find a way to support her without her realizing where the push came from.

In truth, it's simply a confidence boost and the lesson learned of the real magic coming from inside each of us, but let's face it...it can be hard to believe those words as more than words, especially when we're young. It was wonderful to see Ellie blossom into the person she was suppose to be, the person she wanted to be, and when everything comes to light later on, an absolute joy to know that Ellie was exactly where she was meant to be with a full heart, a spring in her step, and a realized dream.

A great way for readers of all ages to be reminded of the real source of the magic in our lives, while encouraging us to never stop dreaming, or reaching for those stars.  🌟 Filled with inspiring illustrations that bring Ellie’s journey dancing right off the page and into our hearts.
