Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... FIRST AND FOREVER by Lynn Painter!

🏈... utterly irresistible romantic comedy about a football star and his team’s die-hard fan who find themselves entangled in a PR stunt that only one of them knows is fake... 🏟

🎈 Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to author Lynn Painter as FIRST AND FOREVER makes its debut via Berkley Publishing Group/Penguin Randomhouse 🥳

🏆 I don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for the tropes this one is running first string! Fake dating (even if it's only one-sided, hello plot twist!), kinda sorta enemies to lovers, and I may not play sports or watch sports, but I'll definitely dive feet first into a sports romance! 😉

🌟 What are your favorite tropes? Is this title on your radar?

____________________________

ABOUT THE BOOK...

Duffy Distefano loves three things: her dad, the family cat, and Minneapolis Coyote football. So after she gets booed out of a game and becomes the internet’s villain following an awful encounter with the team’s beloved mascot, she is disgruntled, to put it mildly. Eager to clear the air, Duffy agrees to an interview on a hit morning show. She doesn’t expect a co-guest to join her—especially not the Coyotes’ star tight end.

When MVP Connor Cunningham gets tasked with damage control to help his team out of a PR nightmare, he finds himself in a highly amusing verbal sparring match with a recently wronged fan on live TV. The interview instantly goes viral, and the public is obsessed with them. Despite his distaste for PR stunts, a strong push from the Coyotes’ PR team to ride the wave results in Connor asking Duffy out. But he quickly discovers being with Duffy is much easier than he anticipated, and somehow it doesn’t feel fake to him. This secret can only blow up, but all he knows is that if he messes things up with Duffy, it’ll be the greatest fumble of his life.

Oozing with chemistry that feels like fireworks and banter that makes you swoon, Lynn Painter delivers her signature blend of heart and humor in this love story that you won’t soon forget.

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to...The Governess' Unlikely Suitor by Ella Matthews - REVIEW!

Welcome back readers!
Today, we're celebrating the latest release from author Ella Matthews and couldn't be MORE excited. 😃 Why? Well, quite simply, I've not been disappointed by her work previously, and loved the first one in this series, so anticipation has been mounting for some time...to put it not so simply, you'll want to read on 😉. So, without further ado, ladies and gents, Historical Romance fans round the world, I give you today's featured title...

The Governess' Unlikely Suitor
The Dashworth Brothers, book 2
by
Ella Matthews

About the book...

Katherine Hornel has carved out a life she loves. Being a governess might put her in the way of arrogant aristocratic families, but the children are always a delight. When a controlling employer makes life in his house impossible, she flees. But this is only the beginning of her problems. Bent on revenge, her ex-employer sets out to destroy not only her life, but also that of her brother’s. Penniless, she must find a different way to make ends meet, all while trying to stay true to herself.

Desperate to find out how his older brother died while living in America, Edward Dashworth hires investigator Simon Hornel. In exchange for Simon journeying so far from home, Edward promises to provide for his penniless sister, Katherine. It cannot matter that she is the most beautiful woman Edward has ever met. Not only has he sworn an oath to protect her, their difference in station makes a relationship impossible and, with the truth getting ever closer, he cannot afford to disrupt Simon’s search.

But when fate pushes Edward and Katherine together, temptation might be too hard for them to resist. And, if they give in, can they live with the consequences?

Fan of...

• Regency romance
• Friends to lovers
• Private dance lessons
• Open door

... then this is TOTALLY the book for you!

I've read this author's work before (several of her titles actually), and thoroughly enjoyed myself each and every time. In fact, when the first Dashworth Brothers book came out, I was there to see it happen, celebrate its arrival, and spread the word... the chance to do it again now with book two is simply magical!

Freddie was paired off in the first tale, and it was one for the books. This time around, the lucky Dashworth on the invisible marriage block is Edward. You might say still waters run deep with this one, but, you've got to keep in mind, he has a shared past with the others to overcome too. His aunt wasn't any easier on him than his brothers, yet not in a "let's get you all grown up" sort of way. Her way was more Red Queen in Regency England with a dash of Mommy Dearest, and Flowers in the Attic thrown in. With Edward, he may put off a stand offish vibe, especially with those he's interested in, but he'd never want to put someone in a position that they feel they are obligated to do something, or feel a certain way in order to maintain a quality of life, or procure a roof over their head. Not to worry though...our leading lady has issues in her past as well, and they aren't any easier to dress up and hide. A match made in heaven...if they can only get past the hells they've been through.

I ADORED the characters, marveled at the author's ability to create such vibrant stories one wishes they could step into, wondered when these two would learn to communicate outside of their own minds and solve SO MUCH, but certainly felt the power of actions over words 😉. By book's end, I added another book to my "read and loved" list, and made room on any future TBR for the next brother's tale!

All in all, a great read for Historical Romance fans and a wonderful addition to the series! If you've read Ella Matthews' work before, you won't be disappointed; if you haven't, there's no time like the present! While it is book two in the collection, you could totally read it standalone style, and then go back to the first one, if your little heart desires.

It's TIIIIIIMMMMMMEEEEEE!

That's right!
The calendar may say AUTUMN, the temp where I'm at may say SUMMER, but the READING we're taking in today SCREAMS HOLIDAY... and there's no better series to kick it off with! Ladies and gents, prepare to don your cat ear, unicorn horn headbands in celebration of today's newest arrival via Abrams Books for Young Readers...

Abrams Books for Young Readers

This dynamic friend duo is back and ready to celebrate the holidays together. I mean there are SO MANY THINGS to do, and experiences to share, and since they always agree, it'll be like gliding on a smooth frozen lake... right? Umm, about that. So just because you're friendship seems written in the twinkle lights, it doesn't mean you necessarily have the same favorite things on your must do holiday list... which they quickly discover. What they also find out is that simply bending to the other's interests won't actually keep the peace on earth alive.

Unicorn may love the music, and Kitty may enjoy the gingerbread houses, but it doesn’t mean they can't still have the merriest of holiday seasons! The best way to celebrate TOGETHER is to actually take both your worlds and share them. It's hard to feed that holiday spirit when you're constantly worried about the other person being happy, and neglecting yourself. You talk. You share. You experience each other's traditions, and make new ones TOGETHER.

A great addition to the series, and a wonderful treat this holiday season. Filled with the gorgeous stylings we've come to love, and the heartfelt messages the world needs, readers of all ages will reach for this one time and again...perhaps making it a new tradition of their own!

ABOUT THE BOOK
Eleven-year-old Lenny Syms is about to start college—sort of. As part of a brand-new experimental school, Lenny and four other students are starting sixth grade on a university campus, where they’ll be taught by the most brilliant professors and given every resource imaginable. This new school is pretty weird, though. Instead of hunkering down behind a desk to study math, science, and history, Lenny finds himself meditating, participating in discussions where you don’t even have to raise your hand, and spying on the campus population in the name of anthropology.

But Lenny just lost his mom, and his Latin professor dad is better with dead languages than actual human beings. Lenny doesn’t want to be part of some learning experiment. He just wants to be left alone. Yet if Lenny is going to make it as a middle schooler on a college campus, he’s going to need help. Is a group of misfit sixth graders and one particularly quirky professor enough to pull him out of his sadness and back into the world?

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY wishes to... LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP by Virginia Heath!

Hi guys!
Welcome back!  Today's second, but equally spectacular post features the latest addition to the Miss Prentice’s Protegees series by author Virginia Heath...

From the publisher...
Nine years ago, Lord Guy Harrowby, Viscount Wennington, was publicly humiliated by a failed and reckless romantic gesture. Despite this, his mother clings to the promise he made her then: that she would have a house full of grandchildren by his thirtieth birthday. Still single, embittered, and swiftly approaching thirty, Guy's work is his life. In desperation, his mother blindsides Guy with a weeklong house party at his estate filled with annoying debutantes, all competing to be his wife.

After failing as a governess, Lottie Travers is struggling as a lady’s companion. Raised in an all-male household, she’s developed habits that get her dismissed. Even after years of Miss Prentice’s teachings of how to be a lady, she climbs trees better than she embroiders and can’t resist riding horses astride, in breeches. But with the family farm in trouble, and her father now in dire need of her wages, she’s determined to conquer her wildness once and for all.

Even with his home full of eligible women, there is only one who catches Guy’s eye—though he tries to deny it. For Lottie, succeeding in her new role proves difficult when the Wennington estate is filled with horses, and a spark ignites between her and the grumpy lord. Will they remain stuck in their ways, or learn that they may just be the perfect match?

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... (La)Crosse My Heart by Britney M. Mills - REVIEW!

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY wishes are in order for the latest addition to the SWEET SPORTS KISSES 💋 series from author Britney M. Mills...

About the book...
He’s a pro on the field—but a disaster in front of a camera. She’s got one rule: no falling for clients.

Clark
I can dodge defenders and score from midfield, but stick a camera in front of me and I fall apart. After one brutal interview clip went viral, I’ve done everything I can to avoid the spotlight. Now my team’s bringing in some PR fixer to clean up my image.

Great. Just what I need.

Except the fixer turns out to be her.

Jessa Stratton—my best friend’s older sister, the girl who always rolled her eyes at me, and now the one person I’m definitely not allowed to fall for. Too bad my heart didn’t get the memo.

Jessa
I’ve worked hard to build my career helping athletes manage the media—and I follow one rule: never date a client.

So of course my next assignment is Clark Denton. My brother’s best friend. The guy who stole my car and brought it back looking like a disco ball.

But he’s not just the cocky player I remember. He’s focused, vulnerable, unexpectedly thoughtful… and I’m starting to see way too much good in him.

I just have to keep it professional. Easy, right?
Right?

🥍  🥍  🥍  🥍  🥍  🥍

Brother's friend falling for the little sister, only this is many years after either were little, and the brother isn't there to actually prevent anything from happening. 😉

Don't get me wrong! Jessa is a professional, but she's had one REALLY LONG bad relationship that just ended (good riddance!), and the change of scenery that's brought her back to familiar territory isn't unwelcome; in fact, it was a choice, even if the client was unexpected. Clark is a serious athlete, but he needs more than just a pretty face, and warm heart to reach the next level in his sport. He needs to get out of his head when the cameras are turned on him, or he'll risk putting himself on the sidelines over a PR fail earlier in his career. Familiar faces can't hurt when it comes to sorting out both of their future paths, but what if they happened to (LA)CROSSE more than just professionally...and for the better?

Pardon the obvious wordplay there, I couldn't resist! 🙃 This was my first time reading a book in this series, but I must say, I rather enjoyed it! The characters were likable, and relatable. There was so much heart displayed in both our leads, I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite... seriously, don't make me do it! The story, while novella in length, was still long enough to carry my interest, and had enough backstory to get me into their world without a backward glance. While I can't say I know a lot about the sport, it wasn't written in technical terms that a non-player/fan wouldn't be able to follow, and in fact might spark some interest for others to learn more!

The perfect chance for a weekend reading escape with plenty of other titles to explore should you desire more!

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... LOVE AT SECOND SIGHT by F.T. Lukens!

Tuesdays bring the GOOD STUFF as far as readers are concerned, and today is no different because we're celebrating a BOOK BIRTHDAY! That's right! Today's featured title is celebrating its shelf debut via Margaret K McElderry Books/Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, and is the latest addition to this author's growing body of work.  Known for their ability to draw readers in while spinning a tale of MAGIC, MYSTERY, ROMANCE, and a healthy dose of humor, this release is bound to build a fandom from the word GO.  So, let's take a closer look at the next add to your TBR...

About the book...
Fifteen-year-old Cam Reynolds wants to spend his sophomore year flying under the radar. That shouldn’t be too hard, considering he’s a human going to school with kids who have paranormal powers, like his best friend and witch, Al, and his longtime werewolf crush, Mateo.

Then Cam has a psychic glimpse of the future in front of most of the student body, seeing a gruesomely murdered teen girl from the point of view of the killer. When Cam comes to, he knows two things: someone he goes to school with is a future murderer, and his life is about to change. No longer a mere human but a clairvoyant, one of the rarest of supernatural beings, Cam finds himself at the center of attention for the first time.

As the most powerful supernatural factions in the city court Cam and his gift, he’ll have to work with his friends, both old and new, to figure out who he can trust and who might be a werewolf in sheep’s clothing. Because the clock is ticking, and Cam and his friends must identify the girl in the vision, find her potential killer, and prevent the murder from happening. Or the next murder Cam sees might be his own.

💜 🧡 💙 ❤️ 💛 💚

I gotta say, I'm loving the cast of characters, the spread of paranormal options/abilities, and the murder mystery it's all built around.  It's not a case to solve with a variety of folks involved, but a variety of folks that happen to NEED to solve a case...before they become one themselves!  😱  We get to explore the paranormal side of things, while navigating the rough waters of first being "only human" and then not-so-only human to the exception of being UBER special.  We get to experience all the feels with matters of the heart, but with the tinge of "could it be them" hesitancy attached while everything plays out.  There are moments of OMG, and times when you feel like you just know what'll happen next...even when it continues to twist, turn, and surprise.

If you're a fan of the author's previous works, DO NOT MISS THIS RELEASE!  If you haven't experienced their writing as of yet, I highly suggest you do and this story makes as good an entry point as any to get started!

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... The Secrets of Lovelace Academy by Marie Benedict and Courtney Sheinmel - REVIEW!

Today's featured title is celebrating its shelf debut via Aladdin/Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing and brings us a work of Middle Grade Historical Fiction that definitely speaks to girls/ women in STEM and how important it is to not only find, but use our voice. Ladies and gents, make room on your TBR shelf for...

About the book...
Lainey Philipps has lived at the Sycamore Home for Orphaned Children since she was three years old. Now nearly a teenager, her life is hard, and she doesn’t expect it to get better—until a chance encounter during an open house changes everything when Lainey meets a woman who invites her to attend the prestigious Lovelace Academy.

Fitting in amongst the many privileged students within the ivy-covered walls of Lovelace Academy presents challenges unlike the ones Lainey has faced in the past. Her life of drudgery has hardly prepared her for the aristocratic airs and cutthroat academic ambition of the other girls. Terrified she’ll be cast out of the academy, Lainey grabs at her chance to prove herself by traveling to Switzerland to meet a female scientist crafting a groundbreaking theory.

Determined to prove her capability and reach her destination, Lainey must rely on her own wit—as well as a mysterious boy who has yet to prove himself as friend or foe. But the real test is what awaits her in Switzerland, at the home of Mileva Maric, wife of Albert Einstein.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a story where a lot happens and yet not very much at all occurs. Let me try to explain.
The tale unfolds like a well loved letter, familiar (the historical pieces), yet only just. It felt like being pulled through time to witness these important events unfold first hand. The struggles, both old and new, the challenges that had to overcome in addition to the actual research done in order to proof a new theory,  all made your interest pique. The characters introduced are fresh and new, but their plights are unfortunately expected as "mean girls" exist on any astral plane... these just happen to be rich, AND mean. Honestly, if Majorie said one more bad thing against Lainey, or anyone else for that matter, I was gonna crawl through the pages and show her what's what. There's only so much a bystander can take before we gotta draw a line in the sand and bid her good day! It was wonderful watching Lainey grow into the person we meet at book's end, but such an emotional rollercoaster throughout. The girl could not catch a break, or at least one that would stick, but she never let it get her..
All in all, a wonderful story that was unexpected, yet enjoyable. It reminds us that we all have a voice worthy of being heard, teamwork can make the dream work, but recognition of that work is equally important, and in order to move forward, we must learn from the past. As the wise Lady Blunt once said, "We are all more than merely mortal, and our immortality is our legacy." What legacy will YOU leave behind?
About the book...
For generations, the fortune-telling women in Lo Zhao-Jensen’s family have foreseen The One―the great loves of their lives―before ever meeting them. Except for Lo, who has zero psychic abilities. Just memories of old rom-coms and a lot of poor judgment when it comes to love.
Until now.
Along for the summer is Lo’s best friend and confidant, Teller Owens, her opposite in every way. Upon arrival in Venice, Lo is saved from a runaway trolley by Caleb, a fellow backpacker. Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... THE STRANGER I WED by Harper St. George - REVIEW!
Tuesdays bring the GOOD STUFF as far as readers are concerned, and today is no different because we're celebrating a BOOK BIRTHDAY! That's right!  It's the latest release from a well known author and a part of her The Doves of New York series, which, if this title is any indication, is gonna be one to watch!  Ladies and gents, don your finery, and toss your cares of idle gossip to the wind, as we shine the spotlight on today's pub day celebrant...
by
Harper St. George
About the book...
New to wealth and to London high society, American heiress Cora Dove discovers that with the right man, marriage might not be such an inconvenience after all. . . .
Cora Dove and her sisters’ questionable legitimacy has been the lifelong subject of New York’s gossipmongers and a continual stain on their father’s reputation. So when the girls each receive a generous, guilt-induced dowry from their dying grandmother, the sly Mr. Hathaway vows to release their funds only if Cora and her sisters can procure suitable husbands—far from New York. For Cora, England is a fresh start. She has no delusions of love, but a husband who will respect her independence? That’s an earl worth fighting for.
Enter: Leopold Brendon, Earl of Devonworth, a no-nonsense member of Parliament whose plan to pass a Public Health bill that would provide clean water to the working class requires the backing of a wealthy wife. He just never expected to crave Cora’s touch or yearn to hear her thoughts on his campaign—or to discover that his seemingly perfect bride protects so many secrets…
But secrets have a way of bubbling to the surface, and Devonworth has a few of his own. With their pasts laid bare and Cora’s budding passion for women’s rights taking a dangerous turn, they’ll learn the true cost of losing their heart to a stranger—and that love is worth any price.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Can I just say that I can't wait to continue following the Dove sisters?

It was a pleasure meeting the trio, even their slightly eccentric mother, as they stepped their newly wardrobe-d selves amongst the ton. Despite circumstances creating this venture, they're making the best of it, and, as luck would have it, it seems Cora may make a better match than she ever anticipated! Arrangements are made, secrets are whispered, and sparks fly, but the final curtain call will leave you with stars in your eyes.

Harper St. George was raised in the rural backwoods of Alabama and along the tranquil coast of northwest Florida. These were settings filled with stories of the old days that instilled in her a love of history, romance, and adventure. By high school, she had discovered the historical romance novel, which combined all of those elements into one perfect package. She has been hooked ever since. She lives in the Atlanta area with her family and loves to hear from readers. Learn more online at www.harperstgeorge.com.

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... WISH YOU WEREN'T HERE by Gracie Ruth Mitchell - REVIEW!

Tuesdays bring the GOOD STUFF as far as readers are concerned, and today is no different because we're celebrating a BOOK BIRTHDAY!  It's for the latest title by new to me author Gracie Ruth Mitchell, and stars a Romance that's part contemporary and part fantasy, but full of MAGIC and LOVE.  Ready for the next must read on your TBR?  Wish granted!

About the book...

Clementine has accidentally freed a British genie from his ancient British teapot, and she’s not thrilled about it.

However, appalled by his living conditions—and grudgingly impressed by his jawline—she vows to set him free. But before he can join the human world, the genie must prove he can live like a human—and he must do it in one month, or he’ll fade away for good. As Clementine and the genie embark on a series of How to be Human lessons, and as they pretend to date in order to discourage the men trying to woo her thanks to a wish gone wrong, the two of them discover that being human is more complex than they expected—and that love can be found between the unlikeliest of pairs.

Can you imagine your wishes coming true?
Can you imagine the genie looking like a hot British escapee from across the pond ready to do your wishly bidding with a slight air of superiority, a dash of genie mystery, and the potential for more?  Can you imagine your much loved but force of nature aunt taking control of first said wish in the name of caring for you?  Can you now imagine that wish going wrong, but with a curiously not-exactly-unwanted outcome?  Exactly.

Stepping into this one was like being welcomed in by friends and family.  Aunt Flossie was a force, but with so much love and good intentions for Clementine.  Clementine was a doll, happy with life the way it was, and not looking for anything different, anywhere better, or anyone to change things up.  The surprise visitor, in the middle of the night no less, throws her for a loop to be certain, but the ripple effects of the encounter, the 'what ifs' proposed, and the somewhat forced proximity create laughable moments, multiple meet cutes, and the chance at a happily ever after for more than one heart involved.  You'll get caught up in the family dynamics, smile along at the lessons in humanity that Tangerine, I mean, Alaric, has to stick to in order to find his new path, and lose yourself the magic of it all.  It's said that opposites attract, but sometimes those that might seem the most different at the start are actually the most alike at heart.

A great pick for Romance fans whether Contemporary or Fantasy because we can always use a little more sparkle in our lives!

About the author...

Gracie is a Midwest girl who relocated to a tiny, snow-filled Idaho town. She attempted her first novel in the fifth grade and never looked back; now she spends her days trying to keep track of her children, her dog, and her book characters. She's also lucky enough to be married to her favorite man in the world.

If Gracie had any free time, she would spend it reading, watching K-dramas, and taking hot baths. As it currently stands, however, you'll usually find her staring glassy-eyed at the computer screen, trying to get her characters to behave themselves. Sweet romantic comedy is her passion!

BOOK BIRTHDAY WEEK Kid Lit Celebration!

What can I say?
I read A LOT.
I review A LOT.
I...sometimes run out of time (or mental energy!) to post everything in one day, but who doesn't want to extend the celebration? Am I right? 😉  Hence today's BOOK BIRTHDAY WEEK celebration post! We're doing it up KID LIT style with not one, but TWO titles that hit bookstore and virtual shelves this week, and I'm here to give you a bit of inside scoop!  In no particular order because they are equally amazing their own rights, make room on your TBR for today's featured titles...

Quest Kids, Book 2

Union Square Kids

The Quest Kids are BACK and better than ever...or at least they will be once they get a grip on everything that's going down, especially this creepy, larger than life baby that is really giving them all pause when it comes to a fight!  But I digress...

When we last left this motley crew, they were still riding the high of finishing their first quest, but well on their way to starting their next.  You see, Ned's parents are MISSING, and while that's doom and gloomy enough, there's more spreading throughout the land, and someone needs to put a stop to it...or several someone's.  When you find out the who, what, why, and eventually where, you'll be perplexed, slightly confused, and maybe a little in awe as to the point of it all (especially surfing 🏄‍♂️ a wave of fire 🔥... sounds more like a human barbecue moment to me!), yet you still be in for a reading adventure filled with... well adventure, but also heart, friendship, revelations, and new mysteries to keep this quest group going for ages!

Like mysteries?
What about secret passages?
How about time honored traditions dating oh-so-far back in a place known for adults setting the rules, but this time, they have everything to do with the kiddos rules?
Thought that might grab your attention. 😉

The young ladies in this book,  Marissa and Clara, aren't bad kids, they're just not completely in love with their new lifestyle. I mean, taking a full entourage just to go to and from school? Climbing a tree with not a concerned parent looking on, but a security detail? See what I mean? So yeah, the life and times of the children in that great big house colored white, aren't exactly what you might imagine at times, but it doesn't mean it CAN'T be... 😏

All it takes is one secret panel opening, a slide down into a mysterious oval-shaped darkness, and signing your name on a parchment that's seen better days (or better yet, centuries!) to take things from ho-hum to what in the year 1905?! Explorations commence, a secret group that's not a secret amongst themselves is revealed, as is the task they need to complete in order to get back home! Trust me though, it's gonna take some intuition, investigation, and a lot of teamwork to get the job done... once they figure out WHAT exactly it is... but the rewards are more than just, as is the potential homecoming.

A great ride through history from a viewpoint that oftentimes gets overlooked with a message of never giving up the good fight!
