Little Bitty Friends by Elizabeth McPike

Hi guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, I was going to so a "Storybook Sunday" post but the title on the roster is actually a PICTURE BOOK so I has to axe the add on.  I do hope you'll understand.  ^-^  Trust me, once you get a look at the feature, you won't be sorry.  Ahem....as I was saying....today's spotlight shine on a Picture Book title that just celebrated its book birthday this past week.  It comes to us from Penguin Young Readers and has just the right amount of Spring time beauty to brighten up your wintry day.  Ladies and gents, grab the kiddos and prepare for a fun escape through the pages to be shared with one and all.  Today's featured title and book of choice is....

This is a rhyme and picture journey through the world of all things LITTLE, BITTY, and FRIENDly.  With the turn of every page, we're greeted by the most adorable faces, critters, and situations, you could imagine.  Seriously!  These are some cute kiddos!  I love how there is diversity among all the wee ones portrayed.  No two are alike, just the way they are in life.  I adored how the children were always mimicking (or being mimicked by) the animals or flowers surrounding them.  The mouse is nibbling, so is the child.  The birds are flying, so the child is running around with a cape trying to do the same with their imagination.  There's one scene in particular that tickled my fancy.  It's of a little boy reaching high above his head, flowers clutched in his hands, swaying with the field of color surrounding him.  He is so lost in the joy of the moment, the beauty of the day and the fun he is having that the fact that his little shirt has risen to show his little belly is not even on his radar.  It's just so CUTE!  Like I said though, the entire book is really a collection of cuteness and there will be a favorite or two for each of you among them all.

All in all, a win in both picture and verse.  Neither one outshines the other (despite the fact that I've been going on and on about the illustrations), but rather they compliment each other.  The softness of the images along with the gentle verses sharing the "action" on each page make for a wonderful reading experience for one and all.  I can easily see this being a new Mother's (or Father's) favorite, turning into a story time read as they get a little older, and beyond.  It's a book that can grow with them and eventually one day be shared with their little ones.  Brava to the author and illustrator indeed!
