About the book...
What would you do if you discovered thousand year old immortals were living, working, going to school, and even shopping, in the most secret place in all the world?
When tragedy strikes the parents of Tristan, Charlie and Eve, they are torn from their London home and whisked away into the Scottish Highlands to stay with their aunt and uncle.
While exploring the mysterious wood one night, they stumble across a group of human-looking immortals, and become involved in a battle for their own safety. The children discover that immortals have lived for centuries in an undiscovered place called Baradoohn, the greatest kept secret in the world.
After being rescued by their new immortal guides, the children learn they are being wickedly hunted by the dangerous immortal, Markaeyla, though they do not know why. They must journey into Baradoohn and face the perils, while trying to discover why they are so important.
Battles with teums, powerful trixes, Dark Age gangsters, angry peelerpots, and the all-powerful Divisional Ministry are just a few of the challenges that lie in their way.

Okay, I admit...the title and cover TOTALLY drew me in at first glance, though honestly, I couldn't really figure out what I was looking at. After reading the book, the image makes total sense...I mean, it's obviously the namesake of the book....BARADOOHN itself...and my oh my what a city indeed! But I'm getting ahead of myself, let me backtrack for a moment...
When first we meet this sibling trio, we discover they've had quite a loss and not only that, have been tossed from place to place afterward, removing all sense of security, all sense of warmth, all sense of...home. It's something hard to deal with at any age, but as children who generally put their whole trust in the world, it can be devastating. Surprisingly, they are handling things better than I think I would...but that doesn't mean that their outward bravado isn't hiding anger, self doubt, and other undesirable traits that make us stubbornly human...and things that the right person or rather the wrong person could use against them. *cue the mysterious music*
At the (supposed) end of their current journey, they'll end up with family in the Scottish Highlands, who are only to happy to have the youngsters under foot. Their new life is different but cozy, and the only real limitations set are to avoid going in the surrounding woods by themselves. I mean, woods are imposing anywhere without a proper trail, map, or guide...but, umm, these woods are a bit different...and perhaps have a bit more to worry about, if one should wander in on their own. A blue rusted car left to the elements...where a tiny pair of glasses is found. A cabin abandoned and desolate...with whispers traveling through like a careless word on the wind. A spooky old (ancient!) man in clothes beyond disrepair that bares and eerie resemblance to someone viewed in a photograph from over 100 years ago. No...nothing unusual here...or rather SO MUCH UNUSUAL, but it only gets strangers and oh so much better from there!
This is one of those times where I really don't know where to start, or rather finish! I want to share SO MUCH about the story, the fabulous characters, the curious plot, the interesting history, and the wealth of inclusion written in seamlessly, I'm simply busting at the seams...but at the same time, I don't want to ruin the experience for new eyes just casting their curious gaze this way. Suffice it to say that it's filled to the brim with adventure, mystery, danger, and whole hearted love. I still want to say magic as well what with most in their world having a trix but again, I can already hear Argatha clearing her throat in disdain. If you're a fan of all the elements described here, or perhaps simply my enthusiasm has peaked your curiosity, I highly suggest you hightail it over to your favorite online retailer to snag a copy for yourself. It's a great fit for older middle grade readers through adults, and has a little something for everyone.
