RRR presents... THE DETERMINED LORD HADLEIGH by Virginia Heath - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're joining Rachel's Random Resources (again) for another fabulous tour (second of the day!) featuring the work of none other than Virginia Heath.  (Woot woot!)  In case you haven't been around recently, you may have missed my adoration for her writing, especially when it comes to the Wild Warriners series and more recently the King's Elite series.  Let me just say, I ADORE them...in fact of the one's I've already read, they've all been in ebook for tours (with this particular group, I might add), and then I promptly went out and ordered the print edition (which the house ate when Hurricane Michael came about, but then the UBER FABULOUS author herself sent a few my way to rebuild my coveted collection again...squee!)...including the little beauty we're here to celebrate today.

It's just celebrating it's BOOK BIRTHDAY, and while some series can get old after a while, losing its luster to seemingly fall into the shadows of previous releases, such is not the case here.  No...rather this series just keeps getting better with each release and while this is the last one of this particular set (boo hoo!), it doesn't sparkle any less with fabulousity.  So, ready or not, fair readers...here comes today's blog tour guest and title in the spotlight...

The King's Elite series, Book 4

Harlequin Historical

About the book...
Haunted by Penny Penhurst’s courage on the witness stand, meticulous barrister Lord Hadleigh offers her a housekeeper position at his estate. Despite trying to stay detached, Hadleigh is charmed by her small child and surprised by how much he yearns for this proud woman! Can this he break through his own – and Penny’s – barriers to prove he’s a man she can trust…and love?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah...so I don't break this picture out much, as it usually signals a less than coherent assemblage of words is about to follow because I simply couldn't stop raving about what I just read enough to gather my thoughts properly, but yeah...SO WARRANTED!
Honestly before Ms. Heath's series, I didn't read much Historical Fiction.  I don't want to say that I grouped it with the classic bare chested men clutching gasping women baring some cleavage of sorts of books, but yeah...I did...until I didn't.  No offense to those that love those "classics", but it just wasn't my thing.  One day I read about A Warriner to Tempt Her for a different tour with this very group, and I was...tempted...so I read an excerpt, and I was drawn in enough to give it try, I mean it's not often you read a book where a glimpse of ankle is enough to cause a stir.  *giggle*  Anywho, long story short, I took part in the tour and haven't looked back!  Which brings us to several books later and today's final release in her follow up series to the Warriners...the King's Elite...
Image result for justice
This time around, we're finally seeking justice for all those who lost their lives, or livelihoods, thanks to "the Boss" and her merry band of troublemakers du jour whose ultimate goal was much loftier than simply smuggling spirits under the nose of the crown without paying taxes...and it all falls to the VERY capable hands of one Lord Hadleigh.  He's tenacious, meticulous, and detail-oriented to a fault.  He fights the good fight every day, and seeks to give a voice to those without one, whatever the reason may be, though there is a particular cause close to his heart, the closeness of which causes him to be somewhat shortsighted in his endeavors to help at times.  You see, he has a past that affects his outlook on life and his view of women, but not in the way you might think, given the times.  No, rather he is a bit more progressive than the ton, but he also sees damsels in distress and thinks they always need saving.  True, so do...but there are others that simply need out of their current situation, and then the chance to make it on their own.  Case in point, our leading lady Penny.
Former Viscountess, former thanks to her slovenly husband who got what was coming to him one way or another, and newly single mother, Penny is simply trying to make the best of a bad situation.  She's struggling, but making it work.  She has a good head on her shoulders, and a whole lot of heart, plus a plan to change her stars, so to speak, so when someone comes unbidden into her business and eventually her heart, it strikes the wrong chords entirely.  The good intentions behind the acts matter not...it's the principle, and she's not about to allow her path to be laid before her by anyone else ever again.  Only thing is the road can be an awfully lonely place...even if your own company is rather pleasant...and finding someone to share the journey with as equals can be life changing, but only if given the proper chance.  Can two souls who've seen the worst find the best in each other, and actually trust enough to let it blossom?  Only time will tell (because I won't!)...but let's just say, it's a good thing that neither gives up easily.
This is Trevor, Ms. Heath's fabulous fido.
Snagged pic from her site!  Look for a particular pooch
in the series inspired by this handsome fella!
As I said, another FABULOUS addition to what's been a wonderful series.  Ms. Heath gives us another potential couple to adore, while gathering the pairings of the past for what could be the trial of the century.  There are pasts to overcome and futures to consider, inner demons to face and hard truths to admit, love to be found and forevers to reach for...and you get a front row seat to it all.  You'll smile with the highs, feel your heart clench at the lows, but all the while you'll hold out hope for the two to see through all that's standing in their way and finally reach that happy ending.
Recommended for adult Historical Fiction fans.
About the author...
When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.
RRR presents... THE DISGRACEFUL LORD GRAY by Virginia Heath - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!
😏Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we say GOODBYE MARCH and HELLO APRIL as we usher in yet another month of this fast paced year.  Is it just me or does it seem like only yesterday we were welcoming the previous month?  Well, any way you cut it, the year is going fast (wish my home repairs were, but that's a post for another day), and while that can be bittersweet, the book I'm bringing you today is ANYTHING but AND it just so happens to be its BOOK BIRTHDAY too!
We're joining ranks with Rachel's Random Resources again to bring you a stop along the current tour for author Virginia Heath's latest release via Mills & Book Historical!  It's the third title in her The King's Elite series and may I just say...I LOVED IT!  No really, total love!  How so, ah well, you see, that dives deeper than my intro intends, so let's finish the formalities and get down to business.  Ladies and gents, please feast your eyes on today's blog tour guest and book of choice...
About the book...
A spy on a mission…Until he meets this heiress!
Miss Theodora Cranford’s learned to keep her impetuous nature locked away. She won’t be deceived by another man who can’t see past her fortune. She wants an honourable, sensible sort – not a self-assured scoundrel like her new neighbour, Lord Gray. Although she’s sure there’s more to him than meets the eye… But after that first captivating kiss, she's certainly left wanting more!
Once upon a time, there was a headstrong young woman who had her life turned upside down a time or two, so she packed away her heart, stifled her somewhat fiery nature, and proceeded to try to please the masses.  Funny thing about trying to fool others though...your true self is bound to leak out eventually and only then are you ever really sure whom you can trust your secrets AND your heart to.  Lucky for Thea, Lord Gray might just fit both aspects of that particular bill...if only she'd give him a sporting chance...AND he, her.
Image result for in love sigh
Oh there is SO MUCH TO LOVE with this one, there's no wrong place to start...and that book love I mentioned?  Yeah, it was BAD, but in a VERY GOOD way!  I quite literally had to stop every few pages or so, and be like...no, you HAVE to listen to this, seriously...and then bend the person's ear about the mishaps that were occurring, or the outlandish thing Mr. Hargreaves did now (REALLY wanted to throttle that man!), or how Lord Gray was frolicking in the brook again with Trefor (*giggle*), or how clever Trefor really is with that wonderfully powerful nose of his (such a sweetheart!), or how Thea had worked herself up into a tizzy over her non-like of Lord Gray (protest too much and one simply MUST wonder...), or how her best friend who's up in years isn't afraid of making that proverbial leap, or...well, I think you get the picture.  😊
All in all, it was a delightful read from start to finish and a wonderful addition to what's already been a fantastic series.  From the MORE than meet cute (*fans self*) to the delightfully scintillating flirt sessions that are still most appropriate for their times, the determined nature they both adopt during their truce to the seemingly fated breaking of those same vows in a most spectacular fashion, all whilst in the middle of an investigation that cannot even be muttered accidentally in the heat of any moment for the threat to King and country!  Oh, it's much too delicious to not surrender a weekend or afternoon to...and while yes, it can be read as a standalone, do yourself the favor and READ THEM ALL.  You'll thank me...promise.
Sebastian awakens a burning desire within Clarissa which leaves her questioning whether becoming a duchess is what she truly longs for…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I can honestly say that every Historical Fiction adventure I've taken penned by Virginia Heath, I have thoroughly enjoyed!  I stepped into her series, The Wild Warriners, with book three, enjoyed the HECK out of it, promptly sought book one and two (still in the TBR...oops!), and when approached, enthusiastically signed up for a review of the final release (*tear*) in the quartet.  Needless to say, LOVED EVERY MOMENT.  When Rachel sent the word out that the author was once again touring, but this time with the first book in her new series, The King's Elite, I jumped at the chance, never hesitating for a moment.  Was I rewarded for my hasty decision?  OH YEAH.... ;)

For those fans of the Warriners series, FEAR NOT...this isn't a complete departure from their time, place, and/or characters; in fact, it's really centered around it all, merely adding another layer to the already appealing proverbial cake!  Seb is a master of disguise (knew that already!) and his role in the King's Elite suits him well, but there are always two sides to every person....the one presented to the world and the one shared with a chosen few.  On the outside, he can project pretty much any persona needed to blend in with the crowd, but corner him in fancy duds and a room full of socialites, his tongue can easily be tied.  Good thing his current assignment puts him SMACK DAB IN THE MIDDLE of this very type of scenario, right?  Um, yeah...more like thank goodness for Clarissa.  She's been around the ton for four seasons now, and not because she's not been persued...more like she hasn't received the final knot tying attention of the Duke she holds dear.  Truth be told, it's not so much the man as it is the title (something she finds out all too well now that a REAL man has arrived on the scene...*ahem*), and the security that goes with it that appeals to our leading lady.  Truth also be told...she's hiding her own secrets (not so much on the national security level of secrets though), and merely wants to secure her place in society and lock away her shameful truths.  She's even good with forgoing love for the sake of freedom...or at least a version of it....or at least she was.  If all works out as planned, they'll both get exactly what they want...and even unexpectedly what they need!

Image result for regency time period

I really love how the author breathes life into the time period and her characters.  They are neither predictable nor stuffy, or at least no more so than they should be, and we're allowed a glimpse into both their worlds AND their hearts.  We get to see how they interact with the ton, but also how free they are when persuing their own passions.  We catch glimpses of those pairings we've read of before, but not so much as to render the other books obsolete, or shutdown interest in reading each of their tales to gather all the scandalously delicious details.  When we first meet Seb, it's not on a level playing field, so we see him raw and unfiltered...and certainly still appealing!  When he regains his footing, we see him at the top of his game and yet, despite the high stakes game he is playing at, still his charming self beneath it all (whether he knows it or not!).  When Clarissa first encounters him, she's torn between pity and desire, the first of which was explainable due to circumstances, but the latter was something unforeseen.  When she let her guard down, albiet against her wishes, we got to see the REAL Clarissa, and appreciate her for the person she is versus how the ton want her to be.  Their interactions as the stakes grew higher were award worthy, and yet only served to feed their mounting feelings for one another.  Whether they would eventually "meet in the middle" was always up in the air, but even so, we knew we could count on one to be their for the other in spite of it all.

To conclude by rambling love affair with this work, it's a definite recommendation for Historical Fiction and Romance fans.  Whether a current reader of the author's work, or just getting started, there's LOADS to love here, and a promise of more to come on the horizon...woo hoo!
