Celebrating TEN YEARS of DRAGONS, MAGIC, and FAMILY with Author Kandi J. Wyatt's DRAGON COURAGE Series!

Ten years.
TEN YEARS.
That's a fairly large block of time for a title that hasn't been published by one of the big mainstream publishers, and yet garners a pretty MASSIVE following of readers across generations. IN fact, this reader read the first one NINE years ago herself (this September, you can check my previous post for proof!), and enjoyed the heck out of it. Now, I am guilty of not having followed through reading the rest of the series, but, in my defense, I was in the middle of A LOT of books at the time, and you know how the TBR gets...more MOUNTAIN less list...however, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this series starter to this very day! Which brings us to today's celebration...

In a world where dragons and humans live in peace with each other, it is a privilege to be a dragon rider, but riders, like everyone else, must find their purpose.

In this series, twins Ruskya and Duskya fight for their dragon’s futures and their lives! Braidyn struggles with balancing justice and mercy as he searches for a stolen nestling. Kyn and a new friend, Ben’hyamene, discover a breed of wild dragons which have been at war with humans for four hundred years, and the two learn that peace is better than revenge.

Kyn helps Duskya and her daughter, Carryn, search for a young rider who stumbles upon a slave trade. Carryn learns that bitterness leaves a person in bondage as much as being a slave.

And Mere learns there are some things even better than being a dragon rider!

Follow along the riders’ quest in this exciting middle grade fantasy series by author Kandi J Wyatt.

To celebrate this milestone, author Kandi J. Wyatt has a Kickstarter campaign running TODAY through August 4th, 2025 that involves SPECIAL EDITION BOXED SETS. Are you excited because I'M EXCITED?! There's chapter art, chapters starting on the left-hand page, new covers, a slip-case for book 1, boxed set with spine image of a dragon. That means this FAB series is going to be available in a beautiful box complete with dragons! Did I mention dragons and dragon riders?

Go follow the campaign (STARTS TODAY!) and check out all the goodies, but even more importantly, acquaint yourself with this series readers have been talking about FOR YEARS and it never gets old!

We're all in this together... LONG GOES TO DRAGON SCHOOL by Helen H. Wu - REVIEW!

I know what you're thinking...
...why on earth are you featuring a book about SCHOOL when it's about to let out for the summer?

Well, for a couple of reasons actually...
...first, I just found out about it and HAD TO SHARE!
...second, the end of the school year is just as good as the beginning!
...third, it's not just about school...it's something much BIGGER!
So, class...do I have your attention now?  😉

Good because this review is now in session, and I'd like to direct your eyes front and center on today's ebook of choice...

About the book...

Wrapped in Eastern and Western dragon lore, this fantasy tale celebrates perseverance, cultural inclusion, and self-discovery.

It’s the first day of Dragon School, where all the young dragons must learn how to harness their fire-breathing skills. Today’s lesson? Using it to cook food! All the dragons are excited to test their powers . . . except Long. Long is from the East and can only breathe out water. No matter how hard he huffs and puffs, he isn’t sure he can match his fire-breathing classmates. But will his talents be discovered? Or will Long find his own unique path to cooking-and to fitting in?

🐉

This book was ADORABLE...in a totally cool, fire-breathing, and not-so-fire-breathing way!
From the illustrations to the story, the heritage shared and the lessons learned, there's a little something for every reader, from the tall to the small.

Long is just starting his school years, but from the first lesson, he already knows he's different.  It's hard enough growing up, and even harder starting out in school with a group of dragons you don't know, but finding something that sets you apart can really shake whatever confidence you had left!  Long doesn't give up though.  He's determined to show his classmates he can do everything they can do...sort of.  When his tricks and cover ups run out though, he does what he should have from the start, and the outcome...is so much better than he could have imagined!  I was so happy that the teacher dragon approached Long's talent the way that he did.  He made it so much easier for the other dragon kids to be open minded, accepting, and just plain impressed, when it could have gone a totally different way.  It built Long's confidence to because he saw that being different isn't bad.  It's just one of the many things that goes into making him the interesting, wonderful little dragon he is!

A great read for story time with the family, or even in the classroom, as kiddos of all ages can relate to Long's feelings, and ultimately his success.  It might even help them brave new situations with more confidence, and share their true selves with the world more easily.

Think the tale of the pied piper, twisted, and amped up about a gazillion watts...
...and you might be touching the tip of the iceberg that is THIS BOOK!

Okay, so the original tale of the Pied Piper WAS sort of twisted on its own, I admit, but in this story, he's the one that is feared above all others.  His mastery over his craft was renowned, but the ways in which he used it were despicable. In this story, he was captured...eventually...and put away for all time.  So that's that.  The other pipers that remained put their skills to good use, well...mostly good...and helped achieve peace throughout the land.  The young piper-in-training, Patch Brightwater, is a kind soul that got off on the wrong foot.  He was so dedicated to his learning, so single minded in his pursuit of his goals, that when something lesser was offered, he snapped.  For him, there was no other acceptable means to an end.  He either achieved his dreams, or...well, essentially he burned them to the ground, minus the fire...although there was plenty of that later when he went from prisoner to escaped convict, but that's a tale for another time.  Suffice it to say that there is ADVENTURE, there is MAGIC, there is MYSTERY, and oh so much DANGER growing with every turn of the page as Patch and friends get closer to their goal...and when it comes down to the big reveal, you'll be on the edge of your seat!

I loved Patch for his true heart, despite his childish outburst that landed him on the wrong side of the piper law in the first place.  He was dedicated to his craft in its truest form.  He didn't want money and fame, he wanted to help people like in the old days, and by jove if I could have reached through the pages and made that happen for him, I would have.  I adored Wren for her smarts, quick whit, and dedication to seeing things through, not just for herself, but for the others too.  She could have sought an easier path, but she stuck with her newfound friends for better or worse.  Barver, our friendly dracogriff, had me in the mindset of Harry Potter for a while with his griffin half bringing to mind our dear friend Buckbeak, but I digress, he's also part DRAGON, so there's a definite difference in heritage, as in his overall character because he can talk, fly, sew...yes, sew...and despite having been off on his own for a time, is more than ready to see his young friends as safely as he can to the end of their quest.

Does Patch find out just what the last words of the "madman" meant?  Will Wren return to her former human self?  Does Barver finish his mum's request then fly off into the sunset?  You'll have to read it to find out, but trust me, you're going to want to get in on this series before it grows...for the shear fact of its AWESOMENESS!

About the book...
In a war of gods and tyrants, the will of the dragonrider must never falter.

Captured and tortured by the brutal tyrant, Argonox, Reigh’s worst fears have now been realized. Argonox has successfully twisted his mysterious dark power for a truly evil purpose—reanimating the long-deceased legendary dragonrider, Beckah Derrick, and her monstrous king drake. But Argonox’s cruelty won’t end there, and Reigh fears the worst is yet to come. Rescue is unlikely as the Tibrans prepare to make their final strike, poised to break Maldobar’s ranks of proud dragonriders once and for all.

With many of its cities already captured by the Tibran Empire, all hope now rests with Jaevid, Princess Jenna, Phillip, and their mismatched band of dragonrider allies to lead the last stand and save their kingdom. Even in such frightful times, Jaevid may find he still has a few old friends ready to take up their weapons and stand at his side again. But facing down Beckah is perhaps the one thing that might break Jaevid’s resolve. Can he really strike down the woman he used to love in order to save the kingdom?

One final battle will decide the fate of our heroes. Can the strength dragonrider prevail once again? Or will the Tibran Empire become Maldobar’s new legacy?

The Emerald Key by Mark Frederickson & Melora Pineda

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're diving between the pages of a book that warns right from the start that reading just might be able to kill you.  *-*  Scary thought, and yet not quite as scary as the incredible world a couple of best friends are about to be thrust into...and all because of a book.  *gulp*  Ready or not, fair readers, because the day's adventure is about to being!  Today's ebook of choice is...

About the book...
Penny and Laci are headed for a mundane summer vacation until a mysterious journal unlocks a portal to another world and they find themselves face to face with a baby dragon.

In an attempt to send their new acquisition back to its home, the girls, along with two neighborhood friends, get sucked through to a mythical world. In this land, they must battle foes seen and unseen, pushing them to both their physical and mental limits. If they fail to stop the powers they’ve unleashed, it could not only destroy this strange world, but also annihilate their home.

We begin with two best friends on a mission...to clear away some attic clutter and hunt down grandma's tablecloths.  Exciting stuff, right?  Umm, okay, so maybe not...yet at least.  Flash forward to a mysterious journal and emerald discovered beneath the floorboards, words of unknown origin and meaning uttered without a thought, a brilliant flash of light where none should have existed, and a new scaly friends that should simply not be.  Oh, Laci...you have some esplainin' to do! (Sorry, play on words for those that know the quote... ^-^)

I gotta day, these two besties are certainly a matched pair.  They stick for each other in good times and bad, playing to the other's strengths and boy oh boy are they about to be tested.  Between putting up with the shenanigans of their boy duo counterparts, Buzz and Ethan, on a quest cross country (world?  dimension?), understanding that some do better in worlds of fantasy than others (fictionally and literally), and they don't always have to be right, there are gonna be some sticky situations and hurt feelings that need mending.  Can't say I blame them considering the situation, but still...Penny gets in a jab or two at Laci that set MY head spinning.  Good thing I wasn't actually there with them because there might have been some ear tugging or slaps upside the head to contend with for both the ladies AND the gents.  Moving forward...

Image result for dragon fire

There are many more antics and dangers to deal with than simply the guys versus gals sitch...and many or much more deadly.  We're talking vines with mind of their own, pirates that would just as soon gut you as they would laugh in your general direction, dashing young wannabe heroes faking their way through their latest (*cough*...first) quest, and BIG SCARY FIRE-BREATHING DRAGONS of several varieties...oh and Digger.  He's not so scary though, just misunderstood....aren't you Digger?  Such a good boy....  Their coming there may have been an accident (MAYBE...*dun dun dunnnn*), but their getting back to their own time/place is gonna have to be a team effort, especially when Hallvard...and the old guy...and the pirates...and well, you'll see.

Image result for tree of life

In the end, it was quite the exciting adventure, filled with twists and turns, betrayals and discoveries, love lost AND found. That characters were memorable, and though the roster seemed to continually grow, those we needed to keep close remained more scant, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the story, not play who's who. From the sound of things at book's end, there might be more to come too! Can we say wish list?  Recommended for Children's Fantasy adventurers from the small to the tall.  There is much fun to be had between these pages, just don't go reading anything that at first appeared indecipherable and magically arranged itself at second glance...especially if you've got any jewels nearby.  Just sayin'...
