This is pretty much the ultimate in friends-to-lovers romance with a heavy helping of heat!

Ryan has always been there for Jessie.  From childhood play dates to a shoulder to cry on, the highs of high school and the lows of her family falling apart, he's been her rock in the storm of life...but she's never seen him as more than a friend.  While he cherishes the connection they have, he's always harbored feelings that tended to run hotter than simply friendship...but she's always been unavailable in that arena, tying her hopes and dreams to his rival...until tonight.  All it takes is one dance, one glance, one moment when she's finally having second thoughts (SERIOUS second thoughts) about her current romantic life, and her eyes are opened.  Road to happily ever after?  Umm, about that...

The obstacles these two put in their own ways certainly keep the story rolling, but it makes you keep second guessing as to the will-they-won't-they relationship status!  I liked Ryan for pretty much the entire story, though his second guessing himself was a bit heart breaking.  He was a good guy who just set his sights on the unattainable girl, but unrequited love never made someone less desirable.  Jessie meant well, and was honestly a good person, she was just stuck in the past.  It took her eyes being opened to a different betrayal (of a sort) to really accept what was for WHAT WAS and possibly think about a different future than the one she originally set her feet on.  It will drive you crazy, but in a GOOD way, and the final turn of events will have your heart sighing.

So, if you like the trope, don't mind a good dose of steam, and really would like to see the good guy finally win (or not...can't spoil it for you!)...this might just be the next MUST READ on your TBR list!

Whew!  Did I mention the last one was H-O-T?  Well, this one certainly cranks up the temperature all on its own too!  Okay, so it goes without saying this one is definitely for ADULTS ONLY...once again, but really...I doubt any female of a certain age or older can deny the attraction to the topic.  I mean, it's the forbidden romance slash long-time-crush/fantasy-finally-realized.  HOW could you say no to that?  Anywho, I'm getting carried away.  Let me get us back to the story.

Allison is a go getter.  She knew what path he wanted to take in life and she went for it.  Despite her early problems in life, or perhaps in spit of them, she realized her dreams...almost fully.  She always had a thing for her brother's best friend.  He was slightly older than her, easy on the eyes, and with such a kind heart, what wasn't to love?  Thing was, he (Zane) had had everything taken away from him at a young age,so he wasn't looking to cross any lines, or fracture any friendships...not to mention the HUGE chip on his shoulder that followed him into adulthood.  Don't get me wrong, I get where it came from, but at some point in life with the support he built for himself, you'd have thought he'd have let some of that go.  Yeah...not so much...and it kept him from realizing his own fantasies comes true too...at least, until now.  Add in one fated trip away from the rat race of life, an unexpected neighbor in their VERY secluded island escape, and the unstable personality of Mother Nature (aka a BIG-A**-HURRICANE!), and boom...you've either got the recipe for disaster or possibly a rather smexy version of Castaway about to play out.  I'll let you guess which way this one goes...

In the end, I loved both characters, even if Zane was a bit thick in the head.  The connections they had felt real, the times they shared created their own waves, and the troubles they navigated suited them in both issue and solution.  Definitely some blush worthy times, but we'd probably be disappointed in the series with a name like SEVEN SINS if it didn't, right?

Recommended read for adult Contemporary Romance fans and forbidden love trope readers!

Whew!  Someone get me a fan because this one is H-O-T!

Okay, so it goes without saying this one is definitely for ADULTS ONLY.  Joshua is all they say with his icy billionaire persona build to ward off the public eye more than attract it, though attract is something they can't help but be with his visual attributes and the scandalous past inherited from his father before him.  He's not the bad guy, though he'll let you believe he is if it means leaving him alone, but some people simply won't take no for an answer.  Enter Sophie...a headstrong reporter that inadvertently turns the public's eyes to him and his family once again, FIFTEEN YEARS after the scandal that rocked them to the core!  I say inadvertently because while she was bringing it to the spotlight again, she had wanted to take a new angle...but someone was less than forthcoming with an interview, and she had a bit of anonymous inside information, so things spiraled back again.  Like I said though...some don't take NO for an answer.  A few more meet-not-so-cute moments later and neither one can deny there's something between them...but whether or not it burns brighter than the sun or torches them to ashes has yet to be seen.  Any guesses which way it goes?

Guess away, I won't reveal the BIG TRUTH...but speaking of which, let me share MY big truth.  I enjoyed the story, though I could have done with a bit less heat, but I did have one lingering question.  Why introduce such a big plot point if it wasn't going to be fully explored?  I mean, there was already plenty going for it without the added drama piece, but it left me pondering and feeling a little hung out to dry.  However, despite that little hiccup, I still had a BLAST getting to know both characters.  Joshua is so much more than he lets on, and Sophie is far more tender than her earned hardened exterior allows her to be.  I can see why one of the sins is pride...the inability to accept that you're not perfect and we're always striving to better ourselves has got to be such a heavy weight!  Good thing these two have each other to help carry it...at least for a little while...or maybe even more...

Recommended read for adult Contemporary Romance fans and enemies-to-lovers trope readers!

This story had all the love, all the unexpected romance, all the bookish joy readers long for and more.  From an adorable meet-cute (picture a bear rescue involving a book castle with a damsel not so much in distress as she in need of assistance and a somewhat unwilling knight in shiny armor happening upon the scene!) to several near misses, smile inducing bonding (where you totally know they are meant to be) to a big fat question mark of if they will actually end up together (not spoiling it...sorry, not sorry!), it's a Contemporary Romance written for the bookish heart in you, and what's more, it's part of a series that sounds rather heart warming too!

I adored (maybe identified with as well) Cleo for her heart, her warmth, her determination, and her spark.  She knew books were more than simply books, and a bookshop was more than a place to house, showcase, and sell them.  It's a place to build community, a place to make connections and lifelong friendships, a place to celebrate the bookish word as much as the thoughts, feelings, and discussions they spark.  It's a living, breathing "being" as much as a place can be all of those things, and the people that run them play just as much an integral part of the equation.  My heart was with her every step of the way as she fought to find a balance between what she wanted for her future while keeping in mind the good of the current shop owner, and the community at large.  As for our reluctant love interest... Mark was definitely a work in progress, but he had good bones as they say.  He knew in his heart of hearts, buried under all that business mumbo jumbo, that what Cleo had was something special...and I'm not just talking about her business sense.  Yes, she made valid cases for the way they did things, and helped shed light on the "why" behind small town bookshops existences, but she also unknowingly opened his eyes to the beauty around him, helped him recapture the joy he had lost, and aided him in rebuilding his inner foundation in such a way that he could essentially have his cake and eat it too.  Whether or not he'd have a partner for sharing that said cake with...you'll only know if you read it!

In the end, a TOTAL MUST READ, and a series that I might just have to backtrack and check out the first installment.  If you like clean romance with oh-so-much heart and book love to spare, this is definitely the book for you.

Now this is the one that I couldn't say no to!  I mean come on, it's MAISEY YATES and if you've ever read any of the Gold Valley series, you simply know that you can't miss a page!

Here's the thing, I learned from the last Harlequin Desire book I read (which happen to be from this same series by the same author) that they are shorter stories, heavy on the romance, and more on the steamy/blush worthy side.  This time around that description fit like a glove, but the story itself, I was a bit up in the air.  I mean, I liked Emerson, and initially I liked Holden, but things go to you-know-where rather quickly and that turns what they had from a lust filled encounter of sexual expression into something much bigger, and more daunting for them all.  It's definitely an enemies to lovers trope candidate and the chemistry is off the charts, but I don't know.  I'm just not certain I bought the whole big bad sexy cowboy heck bent on revenge turns out to be someone that loves so deeply, cares so much, he doesn't even realize it himself, and is truly a diamond in the rough seas of love.  On the other hand, I highly respect Emerson's ability to push forward through the unappetizing options offered, accept her fate so to speak, yet also freely state where she stands with him, her heart, and her life.  They didn't meet in any version of what one would call ideal circumstances, but neither could deny that the still waters that ran deeply through them both cared nothing for the bad blood between them, and everything about what they could be if only they'd get out of their own way.

In the end, it's a quick read that's sure to warm up your holiday nights and a sexy addition to the Gold Valley series from author Maisey Yates that fans won't want to miss.  Be sure to check out the rest of the tour for more on this title as well as the others featured in Harlequin's FALL FOR THE HOLIDAYS selections!
