Who? What? Where? (8)

Hi guys!
Welcome back to the place that aims to be the bookish break in your day each and EVERY day....Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today we're taking a break from the reviews to explore my current read in progress (or rather the book I'm about to open gingerly to avoid breaking the spine) in a NEW and FUN way.  If you haven't heard of this MEME before, be prepared to share because it's a whole lot of bookish goodness in a neat and tidy little blog post package.  Ready?  Here we go!

Hosted by Melissa at My World...in Words and Pages it's time to explore...

Who are you with?
Where are you at?
What's happening?

Share with us just a little bit of what is happening in the book you are reading, right where you are now.
Just a tiny taste of what's happening, remember try to not give spoilers of the book.

Otis Dooda:  Strange But True
by
Ellen Potter

I'm with Otis Dooda in New York City hearing all the plays on his name he's suffered through over the years and anticipating more of the same in his family's new home.

Okay, so not much to go on yet.  Just why we moved isn't apparent but then again I did JUST open the book.  (Finished the other last night which ironically had something to do with New York as well...hmm.  Fate?  Is that YOU?)

Who? What? Where? (7)

Hi guys!
Welcome back to the place that aims to be the bookish break in your day each and EVERY day....Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Busy week as usual and filled with ups, downs, and in-betweens but hey...we're readers!  We want to escape our current sitch and lack the means to do so physically, mentally with a book is TOTALLY the way to go.  ^_^  This week I've got two in progress reads but I'm splitting the difference by featuring one here and one on my teaser post (feel free to check it out after this one for more fun!).  Ready?  Here we go!

Right now, I'm with Maya (or is it Sarah?  Dun dun dunnn....) and Derek (ooh, la la! Tres chic geek!) in a Franco-American cafe on California Street having a little breakfast after a trek/carry up a hill to a FABULOUS view and a roll down same said hill.  We're now discussing the events that just transpired at the unveiling and Maya/Sarah's past while trying to get Derek to open up about his life beyond hid techie kingdom and (unsuccessfully) trying to avoid becoming any more enamored with him.  ^_^

Who? What? Where? (6)

Hi guys!
Welcome back to the place that aims to be the bookish break in your day each and EVERY day....Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

This week has been a hectic one in my neck of the woods but it held its own surprises as well.  Just found out yesterday that we may be getting a pretty cool visitor to job 2 in the coming weeks, a YA author many of you know and love (including myself!).  Mum's the word right now til the details work themselves out, but suffice it to say, I'm TOTALLY excited.  ^_^  Anywho...time to participate in that weekly MEME that I truly love but seldom have chance to join...

Today, I've just arrived in Sand Castle Bay with Emily and her eldest sister Samantha to help our grandmother Cora Jane clean up the storm damage at the restaurant, and we're taking in the "scenery"...*ahem*...whose name happens to be Boone Dorsett and her once-upon-a-time knight in not-so-shiny-armor.  Good thing she's over him, right? Yeah....

Who? What? Where? (5)

Hi guys!
Welcome back to the place to be when the need to read comes a knocking...Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

For those of you that follow me on Twitter, you might have seen my afternoon of "wonderment" yesterday...or not; we all get busy sometimes.  ^_^  Yeah, I totally think the full moon had something to do with it but hey, it's a new day and I'm so calling it MINE.  That's right, day.  I OWN YOU.    ^-^  That being said, how's about a little bookish fun?

In my first read, I'm currently in New York at a book signing with our rising star publicist Kate Mitchell.   Only problem is, the event seems to have been set up for failure!  Really...even for the newest name in the business with the smallest current following, you HAVE to order more than 20 copies!  *o*  Will she get the extra copies in time for the rabid fans lined up outside?  Will she find out what REALLY happened to create the hubbub in the first place?  We shall see....

In my second read in progress, I'm in our local church with Scarlette and Mother, along with the rest of the community, as the Bishop makes a surprise visit to our village and basically says that the attacks from the Beast are our own doing...penance for our sins...and those that are the "worst" (as in those attacked and the families of the attacked) need to be prayed for most.  Um, yeah...pretty sure there's more to the creature than "God's will"...gheesh!  The conclusions people will jump to when dealing with the unknown.

Who? What? Where? (4)

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers...the place to be to satisfy your sweet tooth, for READING that is.

It's been a bit of a whirlwind week thus far what with all the reviewing, blog touring, contests and what not.  Isn't it funny how the "what not" is what gets you in the end?  Anywho...I've taking a MEME break today and participating in that fabulous pop up that you've been seeing for the past month or two, created by a fabulous bloggy friend.  Ready to indulge in my latest read?  It'll be a surprise, I guarantee.

I am in the Finger Lakes region of New York, heading back to the old homestead, Blue Heron Vineyard, with Faith Holland and her trusty pal Blue (he's a Golden Retriever).  We've just been harassed by Levi the town police Chief (who is easy on the eyes but my word is he a power tripper!) as we were arriving a little too anxiously (aka speeding...just a wee) because we're here at her sister's request to potentially stop a wedding.

(Boy, that's a funny reason too seeing as how her own wedding once upon a time came to a stand still....we shall see how things pan out.  Thus far having been introduced to the future blushing bride, we've a ways to go if she's to change our minds. )

Anywho, told you you'd be surprised!  My first venture into this genre but so far this one isn't all Oh Jack, Oh Diane or anything...thank goodness!  ^_^  Curious to see how it all turns out...stay tuned for the tour swinging by next week!

Who? What? Where?

So, this is my first time participating in this particular MEME but if I have anything to say about it, it won't be my last.  It was started by Melissa over at My World in Words and Pages (http://melissa-melsworld.blogspot.com) ...fab site if I do say so...and it let's you share a bit about your reading adventure in a new way; by answering the infamous "W" questions. Ready for a little bookish fun readers? Here we go!

I'm with Nobody... aka Nix...and Claire in a cabin in the woods, in the middle of nowhere learning about his bloody past, how to fade, and that The Society may be a lot more dark than light in the grander scheme of things.

I'm over halfway through NOBODY by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and though I almost lost my grip a time or two, I'm loving it! Racing towards the finish line but to what end, who knows! Can't wait. So who, where, what are you? Do tell!

Until next time ...happy reading!

Holiday Tag!

Egads!

I've been hit!
*stagger*stumble*stagger*
It's okay.  Go on without me.
*gasp*
--closes eyes--

-one eye pops open-
Wait a second..it's not fatal?
Whoops!
Hehe.
Pardon the dramatic interlude but it seemed appropriate for the day as both posts have to deal with the game of tag in one way or another.  How so?  You'll just have to check back later to find out...but let's get on with this post while we're here.

I was tagged by my good bloggish and bookish friend Michelle, better known as "the red headed book child" who keeps a blog by the same name. (Hi Michelle! ~waves~)  It's really a great blog showcasing her love of life, musical theater and books all in one easy to read place.  If you haven't stopped over there, might I suggest that you do?  (Yes, I might...in fact I just did.)  Oh and she's also hosting her very first reading challenge, the "2011 A-Z Mystery Author Challenge", that kicks off 01/01/2011 so if you're in the mood for a few good mysteries, check it out...I believe sign up is still open. (*crosses fingers*)  Anywho back to my tag...

This holiday tag consists of a list of holiday type questions that I shall attempt to answer without boring you in a less than lengthy fashion since I too tend to get rather wordy at times...and then...I get to tag a few more people (muwhahahaha).  Here we go!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When do you usually know and feel that it's finally the holidays?
Thanksgiving night.  Traditionally that's when my family puts up all the Christmas decorations and so it adds the "ho ho ho" to the holidays.
What do you want for Christmas this year?
World peace.
Puppies for all.
Okay...seriously...just time with family, nothing more nothing less.
(Though I still think puppies for all is a GREAT idea.)
Do you go all out with decorations?
To some degree, yes...it really depends on the "theme" that year though.
For example, this year we have the house trimmed in white lights (roof, windows, door, garage), 6 white trees on the lawn, 2 moving reindeer (in, you guessed it, white lights), and the driveway lined in little Christmas trees and snow flakes (that yet again light up with white lights).  ^_^
What are you doing Christmas Eve?
Spending time at home with family and celebrating with the "Feast of the Seven Fishes".  It's an Italian tradition where the evening meal consists of seven smaller courses each featuring a different type of fish.
What are you doing Christmas Day?
When I was younger, waking Mom up at the crack of dawn.
Nowadays?  Sleeping in a bit...then presents!  ^_^
It's Christmas time. What are you reading?
Each year I try to read one version or another of that classic A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  Other than that, I usually squeeze in a few holiday themed titles and whatever else catches my eye.  A new favorite this year was The Christmas Chronicles by Tim Slover.
Favorite movie to watch during the holidays?
Any and all Christmas movies!
We always watch the Charlie Brown Christmas and Garfield's Christmas and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the cartoon one)...no matter what.  Other than that, we try to make a point of watching Santa Claus:  The Movie (that's the old one, not the Tim Allen one...though that series is good too)...and more recently The Polar Express (one of Mom's favorites)....not to mention ABC Family Channel has some GREAT original movies this time of year.
Favorite Christmas song?
Depends on the moment you ask me!
Right now, since I heard it in the car earlier....The Christmas Can-Can sung by Straight No Chaser.
(Fun song!)
Favorite holiday drink?
Hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows.
^_^
How is your Christmas shopping going?
It's done!
A bit untraditionally this year, but done.
If you could spend Christmas Day anywhere else, where would you spend it?
I guess there's not one particular place right off hand, but DEFINITELY somewhere with snow.  I miss it so!
Any holiday traditions?
Day after Thanksgiving shopping is a must!
The "Feast of the Seven Fishes" on Christmas Eve.
Driving through town just to look at all the Christmas lights.
Mom's Christmas cookies!
Favorite thing about the Holidays.
The overall feeling of happiness and joy that seems to permeate the air.  It's too bad the feeling can't last all year.
----------------------------------------------
Still there?
Yay!  ^_^
Tis the season to share with one and all...and now it's time for three more bloggers to share their holiday secrets.  I would love to tag the following three bloggers...
Danielle at There's A Book
Petty Witter at Pen and Paper
Bri at Bri Meets Books
Share with us your holiday fun pass it on to 3 more!
Until next time...happy holidays...and happy reading!
I've been tagged!
Help....readers.....I've been tagged!
*staggers*
No really....see?
Okay, okay...so it's no cause for alarm unless you are ringing a bell to signal FUN because that's what this tag brings!  I was tagged for this MEME by none other than Michelle - THE Red Headed Book Child who just happens to run the fab blog by the same name...so you can blame her FULLY for my personal share today.  ^_^  The basic set up for this one is "4 Things..." including the TAG at MEME's end.  Ready to learn a bit about me...and see who's next to be tagged?  Here we go...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

4 Things in My Handbag

Current read - paper copy
eReader - just in case I finish my book
Cell phone - don't leave home without it
Mints - hey, fresh breath is ALWAYS in fashion

--------------

4 Things in/on My Desk
(since I don't actually have a desk per se at home, we'll look at my work desk)

Several picture frames - holding lovely pics of my pups
One plant - that has somehow managed to survive my attention (or lack there of) for over a year
Candy dish - believe it or not, it's for other people, not me (my candy stash is in the drawer...hehe)
Miniature hand made tree and painted thimble - they were presents from a friend/coworker...the thimble has a winter scene hand painted on it...very intricate

-----------------

4 Favorite Things in My Bedroom

Books - yeah, with so many in the house, there are QUITE a few in the bedroom and of course they rank as a favorite thing
My CD collection - can you tell I'm a bit of an entertainment junkie?
Stitch - yes, the blue cutie/trouble maker of Disney fame....Mom picked up a fairly large stuffed doll of him a few years back on our trip down there.
Shoes - a girl can never have too many...and I am a proudly practice that believe. ^_^
--------------------

4 Things I Always Wanted to Do (but haven't yet)

Travel (more) - Italy, England, Australia, New Zealand, France, Alaska...I have the potential destination ideas, now I just need the time and monies....
Visit PA - as in Pennsylvania.....we haven't been back there since we moved away many moons ago...would love to see how things have changed...
Change my hairstyle - for the longest time it was the classic bob style with bangs, then without bangs, then just long, or as Mom would say "no particular style"....would like to shake things up a bit
Work with a publishing company - *ahem* well, it is something I'd like to do one day.... ^_^

-----------------------

4 Things I Enjoy Very Much at the Moment

Spending time with family - that's also counting the four legged fuzzy family members....
Reading - nuff said!
Listening to music - I did say I was an entertainment junkie, right?
Going to the movies - yeah....please see above statement....

--------------------------

4 Songs I Can't Get Out of My Head
(Now this changes on a regular basis, but at the moment, with links included....)

-----------------------

4 Things You Don't Know About Me

I love khaki - it's a staple of my wardrobe, except on the weekends when I can wear jeans.
BIG fan of musicals and their movie counterparts - that means everything from High School Musical to Legally Blonde the Musical is pretty much included.  I can't help it!  The music is just so fun and catchy....on the other hand....
I love a good concert - and have seen multiple acts including Linkin Park, No Doubt, NSYNC, Sister Hazel, Aerosmith....need I go on?  ^_^
I don't like coffee - there I said it....and don't give me that "it's flavored, it doesn't taste like coffee" line....it ALWAYS does! *blech*

---------------------------------

4 People I Would Like to Tag

Let's see, next on the victim...I mean tag....list is....

BBAW: Day 3: Reading Meme

Hello, hello!  Welcome to day three of the celebration!  What are we celebrating?  Why it's.....

From the title, you may be wondering what in the world a reading meme is exactly...no worries, I was too!  I had seen the term a few times, but color me silly, I had no clue what it meant!  So, guess where I went to find out?  GOOGLE, of course!  With the myriad of assistance sites that came up I chose Quixtar Blog:  Blogging 101.  According to their entry, a blog meme is something that requires the blogger to participate, but does not have an originating source....and is generally a listing of questions used to share personal info.  (Hmmm....Captain Obvious anyone?)  I mean I gathered that much from this activity posted for today, but alas, that seems to be the most concrete definition I could find!  All of you with inquiring minds out there....you'll just have to focus your energy on the rest of this post.  (Nice segway to get you to read on, huh?)  Learn a little more about my preferred reading habits and share some of your own!

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack? Try not to, but they make such good dining companions....

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you? Textbooks, yes...novels, NO!

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark

Laying the book flat open? Hardback, yes...paperback, NO!
Fiction, Non-fiction, or both? MORE fiction, less non.
Hard copy or audiobooks? Hard copy all the way.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point? I can put it down at any point....it doesn't mean I have to like it!

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Only if I can't figure out the meaning from the surrounding sentences.

What are you currently reading? Better question is what am I reading at this moment! Let's see...I'll let my sidebar answer that....

What is the last book you bought? Fly By Night by Frances Hardinge

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time? Umm...sidebar shall answer again... (multiple)

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read? Ideal would be a room with just enough light to read, a big overstuffed chair and an unlimited supply of books. Alas, that exists in my dreams alone! usually is wherever I am at the time....

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books? BOTH! Depends on my mood....I like to break from reading series with stand alone's.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over? Yes....my own guilty pleasures....The Forbidden Game (trilogy) by L.J. Smith and The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyers.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?) At this point, by box! (Let's just say I need more book cases.) If I had the space, by author.
