RRR presents... A MODERN MIDLIFE CHRISTMAS CAROL by Alana Oxford - COVER REVEAL!

SUPER EXCITED to be sharing a COVER REVEAL with you, today via Rachel's Random Resources!  It's a holiday romcom with a choose-your-own-adventure twist that sounds downright DELIGHTFUL!  I've read another book written by this author (Scotsman in the Stacks), and had a wonderful time between the epages, so I honestly can't wait to see what this one holds in store for readers!  Ladies and gents, I've said my piece, and now let's give your eyes a feast!

On to the cover reveal!

A Modern Midlife Christmas Carol
by
Alana Oxford
Publication Date: 15th October 2024

About the book...
Christmas cheer was dead, to begin with.

The world rests on Eliza’s shoulders. The kids, her husband, work, her elderly mother and don’t forget her newest friend, perimenopause. It’s too much to carry, but she’s been doing it for years. It’s just what a good wife and mother does, isn’t it?

When another Christmas rolls around, Eliza is drained by all the expectations and logistics of the holiday season. She’s fast approaching her breaking point, only no one around her notices she’s on the edge.

After an incident at her in-law’s on Christmas Eve brings things to a boiling point, she finds herself with three unexpected visitors. The spirits of the past, present, and future take her on a journey through her life to shake her out of the rut she’s gotten into. Their messages leave her with new possibilities: reconnect with her past, reclaim her present, or forge a new future, and you, the reader, decide which option is best!

They are practically here, and while Thanksgiving is in the US tomorrow, everyone seems to have moved on to the next holiday in line...Christmas.  Yes, it is a wonderful time of the year, but it's also important to remember to be THANKFUL, and take the time to share of ourselves with our friends and family...things that can get lost in the shuffle nowadays.  Today's Rachel's Random Resources tour features a story that remembers those important things, and then some, while sharing the reminder with readers young and old.  Ladies and gents, readers of all ages, gather round for a story that is both new AND familiar all at once...

A Christmas Carol with Grandfather Time

Every year, I read a version of A Christmas Carol.  It's true!  It's a little holiday tradition I started for myself because I really enjoy the story, and while the classic is indeed a classic, there are so many variations, and retellings that deserve their chance to shine too!  This one counts as my reread this year (for now!), and I couldn't be happier!

It's a darling Picture Book filled with lovely festive illustrations, rhymes, and a charming story that will have familiar aspects for those that know the original, while introducing new readers to the tale of old in a more approachable version for today.  Eb, aka Ebeneezer, isn't ready to call it quits on his game when his mother calls time for bed.  Go figure, right?  A little reinforcement from dad and Eb gets his little butt in gear, performing his nightly rituals (brush the teeth, put on the pj's, etc), and drifts off to dreamland.  Is that the end?  Why of course not, but it could have been if Grandfather Time hadn't seen his little tantrum, as well as his bouts of selfishness with his toys and his time previously.  Instead, Eb is in for a few ghostly visits, and a chance to turn his ways around, and all he has to do is take to heart the messages that little Miss Ruby Heart helps bring to light in all her rosy glory.

It's a wonderful little tale that speaks to the best things of the season, while reminding us that those practices of kindness, goodwill toward mankind, and sharing, can be carried on throughout the year.  A great pick for a bedtime story, classroom story time, or family read, that will really connect with the kiddos of today for perhaps a kinder tomorrow.

RRR presents... A CHRISTMAS CAROLINE by Camilla Isley - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Well, my friends, the holidays are officially upon us, and with Halloween just now under our belts, it's time to prepare for the seasons of goodwill, friendship, and great food! So, happy November to you and if you're reading list is anything like mine, you've seen a big influx of holiday titles, and while I still think each holiday needs its time to shine, I can't say it's a moment too soon.

I just came off a week's vacation time (more like stay-cation, but not going to work is a wonder in itself!) and whew, I'd love the chance for a do over. I mean, you expect the time away to recharge you, but come on...admit it. You generally end up filling any available moment with things you've wanted or needed to do, so you end up as tired as you were when you took the time off, and then all the things that built up at work come tumbling down like a house of cards. Or is it just me? Anywho, today's featured title, on tour now with Rachel's Random Resources, gives our leading lady a second chance at life, love, and having those moments we all hope for. Ready or not, here comes today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...

A Christmas Caroline
by
Camilla Isley

About the book...
A modern-day retelling of A Christmas Carol…

Caroline is a cynic career woman living the high life in Manhattan where love and relationships are but a distant memory of the past.

But after a freak accident on Christmas Eve, Caroline receives a visit from a cheeky spirit of Christmas Past, Present, Yet to Come, and—most importantly—Christmas That Could Have Been. When she wakes up on Christmas Day suddenly married with three kids and living two doors down from her parents in New Jersey, Caroline has a chance to experience the life she would’ve had if she’d made a different choice.

Will small-town life as a mother and a wife make her rediscover what’s really important in life?

Take one part A Christmas Carol, with one part It's a Wonderful Life, shake, shimmy, and stir to set the potion in motion for a holiday mishap Caroline won't soon forget!

This is definitely a case of the familiar being taken in a new direction. I loved the aspects of the story that I could recognize from those tales of old, but I equally loved the new twists. How so? Well, in lieu of three separate spirits, it seems that even the ghosts are experiencing a supply in demand type issue and have to multitask. The big scary potential ending that shocks old Ebenezer into action has a rather mundane effect on our big city gal; very now, but still chuckle worthy. Then there's the future that could have been filled with so many hiccups, surprises, and the unexpected that your heart both hurts and beats in time with the heightened fever moments. I don't want to disclose too much because half the fun is seeing her reactions to everything and everyone she encounters, but let's just say her little spirit guild definitely knew what she was doing.

All in all, it's a great holiday tale that reminds us to prioritize the right things in life. Success, money, fame, popularity, and the like have their time and place, but we can't take them with us, nor will they comfort us on a bad day, or share in your joyous moments. Build a life you can look back on and say, I TRULY LIVED; I TRULY LOVED.

KISS 2017 GOODBYE with...The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand!

Hi there!
Welcome back to the ACTUAL REAL LIFE FINAL POST OF 2017 here at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Image result for goodbye 2017

I'm sorry, I just couldn't help myself!
One more review to get out there into the great big bloggy world as we kiss another year goodbye and welcome the next with open arms...and hopefully enough room on our shelves to house ALL THE AWESOMENESS that is to come.
*peeks at shelves*
Yeah, I might need to clean some out...or get another bookcase.  Yeah, that'd be MUCH easier.  ^-^

So, my FINAL SELECTION for the year 2017 is a Young Adult title that released October of this year and while it fits in favorably with the seasonal reading titles we gravitate towards this time of year, it would definitely work in the "off season" as well.  Don't believe me?  Well thanks...you don't even know what title I'm talking about yet!  I promise, I'll keep it short and to the point because I know you're all UBER busy with countdown, ball drops, and what not. So, let's get to the proper introduction to today's title on deck...

About the book...
On Christmas Eve five years ago, seventeen-year-old Holly Chase was visited by three Ghosts who showed her how selfish and spoiled she’d become. They tried to convince her to mend her ways. She didn’t. And then she died.

Now she’s stuck working for the top-secret company Project Scrooge—as their latest Ghost of Christmas Past. So far, Holly’s afterlife has been miserable. But this year’s Scrooge is different. This year’s Scrooge might change everything…

Sort of a unique mixture of A CHRISTMAS CAROL and IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE...with satisfying results.  Full disclosure, I did not see that ending coming! Took me by surprise much like that hammer on Lexington.  (Inside joke...sort of.) Was it good? Yes...but oh so curious because I could tell there was SOMETHING ELSE going on at times, but WHAT IT WAS was kept hush hush for certain.  Yep, Fort Knox could only hope to keep a secret as well.  I adored the crazy impulsive intro Holly, or excuse me...Victoria...makes of herself to a particular Scrooge...it was definitely cute and funny...and how the connection-that-shouldn't-be-there-but-is-now plays out, at least until it doesn't.  I was down in the mouth when it turned south, but suffice it to say that surprise ending saved me from falling to pieces.

So, in a nutshell...if you're a YA fan, have somewhat of a notion of the goings on in A Christmas Carol, and would love the chance to see it all in action, PICK UP THIS BOOK.
Sound good?  Good.

Now, go have a happy new year's eve...I'll see you next year!

The SIXTH Post of BOOKMAS!

Season's greetings...
...and welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers!

Image result for book tree

It's time for POST SIX of the TWELVE POSTS OF BOOKMAS.
What IS Bookmas, you ask?
Great question!

Bookmas is similar to Christmas, except it brings tidings of great reads, holiday gifting suggestions, and just about all the bookish fun you can imagine from across the genre spectrum. It's all in one place at one time (sorta) and ready to help you get out from under the yuletide stress, and get back to enjoying the season...one page at a time.

Just why is it the "Twelve Posts" and not the twelve books? Simple...I have WAY TOO MANY titles for you to consider, peruse, and read all about to limit it to twelve titles. These posts are intended to highlight some great titles, give you ideas for your gifting this year, and help me clear up my "read-it-but-need-to-review-it" teetering stack. Triple focus...yes siree! So, ready or not, let's get this sled on the road as we unwrap today's featured titles....

Every holiday season I endeavor to read SOME version of Charles Dickens' timeless classic, A Christmas Carol.  This year my selection was easy because once I laid eyes on this cover, this title, and read a bit about what was to come....I WAS SOLD.

This is the (fictitious) story of Mr. Dickens in a time when he was riding the high of his success only to discover how a fickle a beast it can truly be.  His latest release...an utter flop.  The only way to satisfy his publishers, regain the favor of his public, and secure his family's future is to meet the challenge set before him....write a Christmas book in one month's time that will drop jaws, still hearts, and reestablish him as the top writer of his time.  No pressure, right?  Yeah...right.  It's enough to blow even the calmest person's stack in the slowest of times, but the holidays are notorious for being busy busy busy, especially in the Dickens household.  Add to that relations crawling out of the woodwork from times gone by, family pulling on both time and pocket, bills accumulating to the heights of the newly acquired Christmas tree, and...why it's easy to see how things get off track, including his family life which he cherishes above all else...or at least, he use to.  Seems someone has lost sight of the spirit of the season...good thing with the right passages traveled, the right memory laden corridors reopened, the right chance taken perhaps initially for the wrong reasons, one can find themselves again and in doing so, grant greater Christmas wishes than you could ever imagine.

A WONDERFUL story that celebrates the story we've come to love as well as the man behind its creation with twists and turns of the heart you won't expect.  High recommendation for the reading season or any time for fans of "the Boz" as well as those just discovering his writing talent.

...and Other Stories of Christmas Spirit

Fiction Studio Books

This season we were graced with another release from one of favorite Fiction authors, Mr. Steven Manchester.  His work has always been able to touch my heart, move my soul, bring me to tears, and reach all the other emotional highs and lows we as readers LOVE to experience in our reading explorations.  The title featured here is a collection of three novellas, two released previously on their own and the third being a new pen.  While some have connections to his other works (case in point, A Christmas Wish is actually an add on of sorts to Goodnight, Brian), they can all be read as is and enjoyed to the fullest.

A brief look at my stroll through the pages found me having a bit of a hard time to get into the first story, The Thursday Night Club, initially with the number of voices struggling to be heard, but finding it oh so heartwarming after a tragic interlude.  The second story took me right back into the world of GOODNIGHT, BRIAN, a story that I adored, with a furtherance of the initial message we received...love should be unconditional. I was very glad to catch up with Mama, Brian, and Steph once again!  Last but not least, The Tin-Foil Manger, just about broke my heart. Such warmth, such love, such feeling...all wrapped up with a Christmastime bow.

When all is said and done...THIS is the stuff that drew me to this author's work in the first place. THIS type of writing, this type of storytelling. It may not hit NY Times Bestselling lists (though it certainly deserves a spot of its own), but you know what...it speaks for itself.

William Morrow

Short but certainly not sweet, it delivers a heart-wrenching story that gives us characters to know without the proper time to love them before they are ripped right our of our grasp.  Seriously, the cover had me in a holiday mood with a smile on my face, but the tale within was more content to leave me with tears in my eyes and a gasping heart.  It reminds us how precious every day is, to never put off til tomorrow what can be done today, and to cherish all those in our lives.

Special thanks to the William Morrow publicity team for the copies for review. (THANKS!) For more information on these titles, the authors, or the publisher, feel free to click through the links provided above. Be sure to check back for the next BOOKMAS post for more bookish fun!
