Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're welcoming back to center stage an author whose previous works I've read, loved, and featured, right here on my site. The first was Dr. Fell and the Playground of Doom and the second was Beyond the Doors...both were memorable for their own reasons, and both made me eager to get on board with his next release when approached by the author himself.
This time around, it's another Middle Grade title, but it falls into a rather curious duo sub genre...Comedy and Horror. Now, how can you have BOTH at the same time? You'd be surprised, and happily so, because it worked ever so well together, leaving another memorable story you'll be talking about long after the last page is turned. Ladies and gents, readers of Middle Grade titles of all ages...okay, well maybe more the older end of the targeted age group and beyond, but still...get ready to be AMAZED, SURPRISED, a tad REPULSED, but ultimately ENTERTAINED as we roll out the red carpet for today's book birthday celebrant and ebook of choice...

About the book...
Lillian Lovecraft has a problem. An demonic horror from another realm has latched on to her, following her around everywhere and continually asking her for mustard. No one else can see or hear the gelatinous horror (named Frank), so only Lillian can tell when it's trying to fit kids' heads into one of its three mouths or flopping on top of her teacher's head.
The annoying and obnoxious tag-along is only the tip of the iceberg. A demented genius is trying to open up a portal to Frank's realm, catching the attention of a monstrously-evil being who can only glare out at us with his double-decker bus-sized eyeball until the portal is enlarged. As the demented genius works to rip a bigger and bigger hole in the fabric of reality, more and more horrors slip into our world--many of them not nearly as harmless as Frank.
It is up to Lillian, Frank, and her friends to somehow corral and capture these horrors and stop the demented genius before he the portal is large enough to allow the being of ultimate evil to enter our world and devour all of humanity.

This book was WILD.
This book was DISTURBING.
This book was FILLED WITH CHARACTERS, SITUATIONS, AND DRAMA SO FAR OUT OF THIS WORLD, IT' WILL BE HARD TO COME BACK DOWN ONCE YOU ARE DONE!
We begin with a craftily snagged book at a basement bargain price that fits the bill for a great birthday present for Lillian's best friend and uber book (and other things) nerd, LeBron. Does she get some satisfaction out of the fact that she purchased it right out from under a strange old man, gibbering on about only having $1 and some change, but the rest is in his car, and the seller looking at him like it was more than 3 cents shy of a dollar thinking she would change the price....CERTAINLY! Don't we all love a good book bargain? Thing is...this book was more than ANY of them bargained for. The odd and extremely long title does not bare mentioning, just in case there's another copy out there and any of you get any ideas of following in Dr. Octavius blah-de-blah-de-blah's crazed footsteps, but mentioned in the story it most certainly is, and with it's appearance we are reminded just how powerful words can really be! So powerful in fact that the mere utterance of something over and over in supposed gibberish can bring something otherworldly into being, rip a hole in time and space, and flood horrors (harmless or not) on unsuspecting people as something even bigger and crueler (though don't think that makes it any smarter) tries to take its turn at ruling the world.
Just where does Lillian fit into all this? Well, she kind of feels responsible after getting the book in the first place, plus there's the whole "the-pink-gelatinous-thing-with-tentacles-seven-eye-stalks-and-three-mouths-that-I-shall-call-Frank" is haunting me situation, and its unexpected and slightly disturbing pet to take into consideration. I mean, she can't just let everyone fall victim to these hideous uglies being unleashed on them, even if they can't SEE them...can she? True, it'd be less work for her, and it might take care of a few enemies she didn't really want anyway, but she has more class than that...and with the help of a ragtag team of humans and horrors, she might just have a chance...however slim...if she doesn't get eaten by the hothogthug...or fall into the river of lead...or, yeah, I'm goin to stop now.
Seriously though, or as serious as you can get with content like this, it was A GREAT READ! I was going on about random characters, and situations, and yeah, those I was talkin to were looking at me like I had three heads, but once they got past the "what are you on" moment, they couldn't help but sucked into the FUN! You'll love some of the creatures and loathe more than most, and that goes for the humans as well because, MY WORD, some of them I'd seriously consider siding with the horrors over them! If you're looking for a well written story with a cast you won't forget, and a plot to take over the world that goes awry in some spectacularly awesome ways, this is so the book for you!
