BOARD book Sunday... MY TINY DINO LIBRARY!

We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with BOARD book Sunday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday appears every now and then... but today's a little different. Today, we've got two BOARD books that feature stars from the jurassic period, and will be ROARing into bookstores near you a little later this month. Ready? Set? Here we go!

MY TINY DINO LIBRARY: T-REX
MY TINY DINO LIBRARY: TRICERATOPS
by
J.D. Forester
Illustrated by
Sarah Rebar
9780593751282
9780593751275
Grosset & Dunlap
Release Date: March 12th, 2024

In classic Board Book style, the thick pages are perfect for little ones to really get in on the dino-riffic fun, while the cute shaped edges will draw their curiosity. Once the cover is opened, the fun continues with clever little rhymes that not only move the story onward, but also impart a little knowledge along the way, making these two titles able to dino stomp into readers formative years with ease. The familiar dinosaurs 🦕 chosen allow visual recognition, while piling on the fun as the opportunity to ROAR, CRUNCH, and MUNCH present themselves for that interactive layer of bookish goodness. Top it all off with colorful images to dazzle and delight, and I'd say this is a great start to a promising prehistoric library!

Do you hear what I hear?: NORTH POLE NINJAS: MISSION: CHRISTMAS!

Hi guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Image result for christmas countdown

Well, it's almost here.  Christmas Day is only NINE DAYS AWAY!  Can you believe it?  Where in the world did December run off to?  Speaking of which, I bet those of you with kiddos in your day-to-day life, have been keeping track of the holiday's approach even more so than I, and a good portion of them with the assistance of a particular Santa's helper.

Image ring any bells?  Why yes!  It's that little guy or girl that likes to shelf sit and report back to the jolly old elf about your behavior, or lack thereof, so he knows whether to bring toys or coal on Christmas Eve.  Fun stuff, right?  Umm, about that.  Color me too-old-for-the-trend but I never really could get behind this particular lingering holiday fad.  I mean, it's sort of manipulative, no?  You're basically "promising" that the guy who sees you when you're sleeping is going to find out about every little thing you do first hand from a semi-stuffed cute-ish spy sitting in your house.  Personally, not the route I would take on the parenting path....HOWEVER, there is a new game in town and this one, I totally stand behind...and guess what?  He's looking for recruits!  Ready or not, here comes today's book of choice...

Mission: Christmas
by
Tyler Knott Gregson & Sarah Linden
Illustrated by
Piper Thibodeau

I figured I'd let the "experts" share a little about the book first because honestly, they said it best!  Now from my side of the thought parade, let me just say that the book was SO CUTE!  From cover to cover, you're bombarded with delightful images that keep you entertained while you relish the power of imagination used to reveal the super-secret NPN organization that Santa has been craftily using ALL THESE YEARS!  I knew we was totally awesome but even that much awesomeness needs a helping hand or hands at times. Thus we have, the North Pole Ninjas...

To me, this was one COOL club that while its missions focused on the month of December, can be continued throughout the year (and it's suggested as much in the text!)!  I love how the ninja aspects of honor and secrecy are worked in so that your little (and big...there's no requirement of littleness to join this awesome team!) ones get the thrill of the sneak but with the best and most generous of outcomes.  The missions are pre-printed on easy tear sheets to be left about the house or chosen as you see fit, and suggest heart-warming things to be done for others.  Make cookies with your parents and deliver them to a neighbor.  Go through your clothes/toys and those you've outgrown, share with those in need.  Pick up your room without being asked.  Get up a little earlier and offer to assist your family with getting ready.  I mean, they may seem mundane and everyday, but you know what?  Sometimes the most treasured gestures are those that came as a complete surprise from the most everyday of activities, and while they seem small to you, seem the world to the recipient...and you get your very own little Santa Sensei to join you on your holiday cheer endeavors!

So, if you think you're ready to take the oath and promise to spread good will, cheer, smiles, and laughs the whole year through, JOIN US!  Now accepting new recruits and Santa's Sensei is all ears to hear how you want to help!  Remember to share your #NorthPoleNinja mission stories on social media with the special hashtag so all the other ninjas can stay abreast of your progress this holiday season and throughout the new year!  Let's bring the joy back to the season and spread that love around so we can all have a very Merry Christmas (or Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or other holiday you may be celebrating!).

CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK: Mother's Day Special

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

YOUR CHANCE TO WIN ENDS 5/8!

Well, we've reached the end...of CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK that is, but that doesn't mean the fun has to end with this final post.  NO siree!  You can celebrate the joys of reading and Children's Literature any day of the week...in fact, I highly recommend it!  If you have yet to enter, be sure to stop over to my other post where you can get your name in to win a NINE BOOK PRIZE PACK starring the works of none other than author Ursula Vernon!  Now, let's send this celebration out on a high note...

Today is the end of the week long celebration BUT it is also a very special day for a very special person in our lives.  That's right, it's MOTHER'S DAY!  Best wishes for a happy one to you and yours.  Hopefully you've something special planned to celebrate, even if it's simply taking a moment to chat, or say "I love you".  Whatever you do, make it from the heart.  Now, the book world has been said to have something for everyone, and every occasion, and the same is true for today.  In the spotlight, I've TWO titles that are a perfect read for you and your little one (regardless of the actual age of your "little one") that remind us how special our Mom's truly are.  First up...

Ella and the Mother's Day Surprise

Ella the Elephant series
by
J.D. Smith

Grosset & Dunlap

Ella the Elephant was certainly a new adventure for me.  This being my first exposure to her character/series, I wasn't sure what to expect.  For me, she was a cross between Madeleine, and Paddington Bear.  She's bright, fun, big-hearted, and generous.  She and her best friend Frankie want nothing more than to surprise their mom's with a Mother's Day event that will bring their pasts front and center, but Mother NATURE has something else up her sleeve.  Will a bit of rain put a damper on their plans or will a little luck, determination, and a bit of magic courtesy of one adorable red hat, save the day?  I'd bet on the latter if I were you...

I can easily see how wee ones would love this TV series and adore the fact that the books are carrying the fun from the screen to the page rather fluidly.  It makes it THAT much easier to capture a child's attention with READING if you can connect them with a book that reaches out to them and what better way than through a face they know!  Ella's sweet demeanor and can do attitude will bring a smile to anyone's face...including the mom she seeks to bring happiness to on this special day.

Now...on to book two....

The Berenstain Bears:

Just like there is a book for every reader, there is a Berenstain Bears title for every occasion.  This time around, we're joining Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear as they seek to find the PERFECT gift for Mama Bear this Mother's Day.  With a little suggestion from Papa Bear, it's all set...after church, they will go out for brunch WITH Grizzly Gran too!  A double Mother's Day celebration...hurrah! It all seems so simple and straight forward, and then the lesson shows up to remind us how lucky we really are.

I've always held these characters near to my heart as I grew up on some of their adventures, but this one was truly unique.  It doesn't simply celebrate dear sweet Mom but ALL types of Mom's in all their glory.  It reminds us that although they are tasked with one of the biggest jobs on earth, they still manage other "hats" as well such as doctors, police, farmers, and more!  It's humbling to shine a spotlight on all they truly due for us and a great way to gain a new appreciation for the WONDER WOMAN in each of our lives.
