BOARD book Sunday... MY TINY DINO LIBRARY!

We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with BOARD book Sunday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday appears every now and then... but today's a little different. Today, we've got two BOARD books that feature stars from the jurassic period, and will be ROARing into bookstores near you a little later this month. Ready? Set? Here we go!

MY TINY DINO LIBRARY: T-REX
MY TINY DINO LIBRARY: TRICERATOPS
by
J.D. Forester
Illustrated by
Sarah Rebar
9780593751282
9780593751275
Grosset & Dunlap
Release Date: March 12th, 2024

In classic Board Book style, the thick pages are perfect for little ones to really get in on the dino-riffic fun, while the cute shaped edges will draw their curiosity. Once the cover is opened, the fun continues with clever little rhymes that not only move the story onward, but also impart a little knowledge along the way, making these two titles able to dino stomp into readers formative years with ease. The familiar dinosaurs 🦕 chosen allow visual recognition, while piling on the fun as the opportunity to ROAR, CRUNCH, and MUNCH present themselves for that interactive layer of bookish goodness. Top it all off with colorful images to dazzle and delight, and I'd say this is a great start to a promising prehistoric library!

So...which one is your favorite?
Hard to decide, right?
Exactly my thought!

I love the BRIGHT and COLORFUL images that each title contains.  I love the fact that they are all inclusive so that no little reader has to feel anything other than AMAZING choosing any of the three books to count away to dream land!  I love the clever riddles, and rhymes that fill each page, giving us a few words for our journey, but not too much to kick start our minds once again.  I love that each book as a who's who as it were in the very beginning, so that as you meet up with each unicorn, dinosaur, or elf along the way, you can recognize them as they play their part in the story!  I love how each one contains a little pearl of wisdom regarding the importance of a good night's sleep, whether it be for the big man in red, paleo adventurers, or those kissing unicorn's goodnight.

Each book is filled to the brim with enough imagination and creativity to usher wee ones off to sleep, while stoking the fires of their subconscious to create a dreamland of their own...not to mention the extra practice with numbers because SOMEONE has to count all those AMAZING friends we're introduced to on each page!  A great addition to family libraries to give a new spark to their bedtime reading routines, but I do believe the brilliant nature of the illustrations just might have little ones asking for these outside of nighttime hours as well!  Whether you're a fan of unicorns, dig dinos, or want to get in the holiday spirit, you can't go wrong with this cute and clever trio of stories!

STORYBOOK SUNDAY: Cookiesaurus Rex by Amy Fellner & Nate Evans

HI guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with Storybook Sunday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday! Feel free to join the fun and create a post on your own site with the same name. I'd love to see any linked up in the comments! Anywho...back to the matter at hand.

Today, we're taking a tasty trip through the pages with a narrator with attitude to spare that's not exactly of our time period...or flesh and blood...more icing and dough.  *ahem*  Yes, our green friend is definitely someone you'd invite to dinner, or perhaps more accurately dessert, and he's not gonna take no for an answer, nor anything less than the best for his outer couture.  Ready or not, make way for today's flour caked, icing covered, sparkly or not, book of choice...

Illustrated by

About the book...
As soon as Cookiesaurus Rex comes out of the oven, he declares that he is King of All Cookies. He should be frosted before all of the standard-shaped cookies, in a nice bright green. But the other cookies are getting sprinkles, or shiny stars, or even gumdrops . . . WAIT ONE STINKIN’ STOMPIN’ MINUTE! Cookiesaurus wants a do-over. Problem is, he might not end up with the kind of “do” he wants. Readers will love the funny back-and-forth between this cheeky cookie and the hand that frosts him. See who gets his licks in at the end!

I admit it.
I was sold from the word GO on this one!
I mean, COME ON!
It's a book...about cookies...
...with a DINOSAUR cookie "ruling" them all...
...or at least trying to.
How can you NOT be curious?

Readers of all ages will be ROARing with delight as we see our growly friend go from dignified top hat wearing dino to a ballerina, a clown, and a few things in-between.  The funniest to me?  The baby...and what the illustrator does with those requested chocolate chips, BAHAHAHAHA!  As the story progresses, Cookisaurus Rex is determined to get exactly what he wishes...but, um, yeah...while it's filled to the brim with humor, it DOES remind us why we should always be ever so careful what we wish for...*gulp*...and always remember NOT to bite the hand that feeds us...or decorates us.

Image result for icing bags

In the end, it's a terrific read that puts us right in the mix, so to speak, as the battle between the decorator and his/her victim...I mean, creation...plays out.  It not only gives readers a laugh or a giggle, but invites them to explore their creative sides in the kitchen. and stretch their imaginations to see just how a few simple changes can make a MAJOR difference.  So go ahead...take a bite out of your storybook time with this prehistorically enhanced baking adventure.  You won't be sorry...but you might need a glass of milk.   Fair warning!

BOOK BIRTHDAY: If a T. Rex Crashes Your Birthday Party by Jill Esbaum

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're celebrating a BOOK BIRTHDAY with the folks from Sterling Children's Books as a Picture Book of Jurassic proportions makes it way to bookstore shelves.  It's fun for boys, girls, and any other unexpected guests you may have showing up at your doorstep on your special day.  Secure all loose objects as we make room for today's book of choice...

If the title weren't enough to capture your attention, just look at the cover art.  Seriously...a T. Rex in a party hat, holding a cupcake, while the small child looks on in awe and wonder.  But wait, if it's all fun and games, there's nothing to worry about, right?  Umm...yeah, about that...

This is the story of what one may think will happen if a T. Rex attends your birthday party, what will REALLY happen, and the touching outcome in spite of it all.  From his inability to play in the bouncy house (giant nails do tend to poke holes in things) to his problems with hitting the piñata with the abnormally short bat (which is actually regular size but those tiny arms can pose a problem), T. Rex will attempt to have fun but will probably be angry most of your party.  His anger will lead to excessive roaring and unless you're handing out shooter's muffs in lieu of a party hat, I would envision headaches as a parting gift.  He'll have bad breath, and still eat most of your cake.  He'll refuse to clean up his mess, but he'll still play with your presents before you even get to because really, shiny toys...who can resist!  His manners are lacking, his size makes every entrance something to remember, but when all is said and done, his very presence will have brought cheer to your day...and his heartfelt farewell would make anyone smile.

Illustration 26

In short, a fun story about that "what if" most kids dream of for some birthday or another filled with illustrations that delight and enchant.  You'll see where our little birthday boy is coming from with everything he shares, but that tender moment near book's end will be the icing on the last birthday cupcake...the sweetest treat because it was shared with love.

Dinosaur's Night Before Christmas by Jim Harris

Hi there!
Welcome back to the special Christmas Eve edition of Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Well, we did it.  We made it all the way to Christmas Eve and managed to stay on the GOOD LIST...right?  *looks around*  Okay, well I did at least, here's hoping you did or I suppose you'll be finding coal tomorrow when you wake up?  Anywho, it's the eve before the big day and what better way to celebrate it than with some prehistoric fellas from back in the day!  Am I right?  Of course I am!  So, let's get right into the thick of things and welcome today's Picture Book of choice...

by
Jim Harris
9781589808508

About the book...
It’s Christmas Eve and Dad is up late, testing a game for his son. A sudden ruckus outside brings him to his feet, and when he looks into the sky, he can hardly believe his eyes. Eight gigantic dinosaurs are pulling a strange UFO across the sky!

It isn’t long before this night before Christmas turns into a nightmare. The ferocious dinosaurs—Smasher, Splinter, Crusher, Fang, Biter, Slang, Stomper and a mean, mighty T-Rex dressed like an evil St. Nick—soon start destroying the neighborhood, gobbling up the presents, and ruining Christmas.

When Dad meets the real Santa Claus, the two of them, along with some pretty amazing bubble gum, a powerful video gun, and some surprise helpers, engage in one epic battle to save Christmas. Imaginatively detailed illustrations from award-winning Jim Harris turn this hilarious and fantastic Christmas story into a larger-than-life Jurassic adventure.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Image result for holiday lights
To say this is a Christmas Eve read of prehistoric proportions would be a bit of an understatement but we've got to start somewhere now don't we?
Definitely not what I was expecting going in.  Here I am, seeing this cover with a jolly looking (humor me, that was MY impression!) T-Rex donning a Santa hat and wreath thinking...this is going to be so cute!  A prehistoric Christmas!  Something for the boys and girls enamored with these reptilian giants from our past!  Yeah..... that was me; suckered in by a cover of joy.  Little did I know what those toothy grin was REALLY hiding.  *-*
Now that's not to say I didn't have a blast because I did...just not the way I imagined I would be.  Think Jurassic Park meets The Santa Clause and you'll get something close to this adventure.  In semi-classic meter and rhyme, we have the poem we know turned on its head with an ear-splitting twist!  Hey, I couldn't have been the only one that was trying to clear their ears after the T-Rex roar....still trying to in fact.  It seems St. Nick was answering a good child's wish and inadvertently unleashed chaos in a MASSIVE multiple-thousand-pounds sorta way.  I won't go into too many details because the surprises are half the fun but let's just say that the little guy comes out on top saving the say, Christmas, and the little BIG guy in red all at once!
Recommended read for all ages, shapes, sizes, and species.  Take away lessons...
Never underestimate the little guy...
Santa is one crafty dude....
...and even the most well-mannered, behaving children in the world must hear NO now and again, especially if it avoids a face to face meeting that could land one of them the role of "toothpick".
