WHAT'S THE BUZZ?: A Lady on the Edge of Ruin by Lotte R. James - REVIEW!

Regency Romance fan?  FABULOUS...because today's WHAT'S THE BUZZ title is perfectly suited to you!  We're got the latest release by author Lotte R. James COMING SOON via Harlequin Books, and it stars an interesting duo with an equally interesting storyline.  Don't believe me?  How about if I told you I didn't really like our main female lead for a good portion of the story?  Or what if I said the male lead seemed a little too perfect?  Ah, now I have your attention!  Let me burst one of your thought bubbles though, in the end...I LOVED the book, but as with most people harboring a secretive nature, it took a bit to get to know it.  Ladies and gents, prepare yourself as we dive between the epages of today's book of choice...

by
Lotte R. James
Harlequin
Release Date:  11/23/23 UK
11/28/23 US

About the book...

A passion that could destroy her reputation...
...but save her heart!

Since the traumatic events of her first Season, Lady Mary Spencer’s been wary of Society. Tired of feeling angry and bitter, at a seemingly innocuous garden party, she lets her guard down with Luca Guaro. The charming Italian rogue also abhors the ton’s dictates and becomes a much-needed light in Mary’s life. A liaison with Luca would be scandalous, so why is she so tempted to head to the brink of ruin...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lady Mary Spencer is QUITE the character.
She has a carefully crafted reputation that the ton can not ignore, wields the information (aka secrets) she gathers like so much armor against the world, and is equally adept at turning it into weapons as needed.  That's not to say she's heartless, merely that she's locked hers away under lock and key.  It's not until a good portion of the story has transpired that we discover the reason for her actions.  Grant it, there are hints along the way, but nothing, in this case, was better for enlightenment of her true character than full disclosure.  Frankly, I don't blame her for all she did, but she was missing out on all that could be as she built a fortress for herself that seemed unable to be penetrated.  I was heartbroken when it seemed all that was within reach was being pulled away again, and in utter despair when the one at the heart of the betrayal was revealed, but in awe of her family and the plan concocted on her behalf.  Ah, catch that earlier statement did you?  Seemingly....let us examine our male lead, Luca Guaro.
The title often makes the man, and yet Luca was just fine without one.
He kept fine company, provided for his mother and sister, lived a life filled with balls, excursions, and decadence...but he was what the ton would call a fancy man.  In our times, I believe an escort would be a close definition, though there were relations with some of the women, but I digress.  His latest "keeper" may have started that way, but turned into more of a deep friendship, a companionship, if you will, allowing his heart to remain free, and his desires to fall where they may.  Where did they fall?  Why, upon Lady Spencer, of course!  She's so appealing from what I wrote above, is she not?  NO, she was a beauty, yet could be ruthless, but he saw deeper, below the masks she wore, and keenly wanted to know her in her heart of hearts.  Remember my mention of "too perfect"?  Yes, there's the bit that caught me unawares.  He's gorgeous, kind, willing to both take a chance and give one in return, and...really the only flaw I could find was he seemed to give up on Mary a might too easily when his inner dialogue seemed to know better, though that was a situation that was remedied in full color splendor.
By book's end, I was in Mary's corner fully with fingers crossed and baited breath that all would turn out as hoped.  It was definitely a till the last page type of ending, but it was so much better for it. We come to know her fully, the same can be said for Luca, and the more that comes to light, the more a union between the two can easily be seen as the best finale for the tale (but I won't confirm anything, you have to read it!). Though a standalone title, I also enjoyed the mentions and meetings of the other novels that came before it; it was like meeting old friends, and walking memory lane hand in hand.  One small stutter for me, the use of italics and ellipsis, or rather their over use.  I'm not an editor, and it could purely be author's choice here, but they definitely seemed to be favorited to a degree...a touch Shatner-like...and while it niggled my brain, it didn't ruin the story.
RRR presents... Miss Rose and the Vexing Viscount by Catherine Tinley - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!
Pleased as punch to be a part of today's Rachel's Random Resources tour starring the latest release from author Catherine Tinley!  It's the start of a new TRILOGY featuring a trio of sisters, nay TRIPLETS, seeking their pasts while embracing their futures.  Guys, there is so much to love about this one, I'll try to keep it short, but you've been warned!  Ladies and gents, KEEP READING to check out my thoughts from between the pages, and score your chance to win in the tour wide giveaway!  Today's ebook of choice is...
Miss Rose and the Vexing Viscount
by
Catherine Tinley
About the book...
An unsuitable match for the viscount
And not just because she vexes him!
Bookworm Rose Lennox has no interest in making her debut. She’s only in London to discover the truth of her parentage. Her sponsor’s nephew, James, the Viscount Ashbourne, is equally cynical about the marriage mart, yet they still rile each other every time they speak! But the sparks of animosity soon become flames of attraction. Still, Rose’s unknown past means she can never be a viscount’s wife…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Getting to know the Lennox sisters was a treat!  They may look alike, but the plethora of similarities ends with their exteriors.  While the promised novels to come will give us the remaining two sisters'stories, we still get to know them all a wee bit, while the majority of the tale focuses on the youngest Belle...Rose.

I think Rose was the easiest to identify with for me, truth be told, though all three sisters were rather lovely inside and out. She was bookish, preferred to listen then form opinions, showed kindness where kindness was due, would help a soul in need even if it was four-legged and furry, and worried so much about her affect on others that she would do something that would break her own heart...but I'm not the only one she impressed.  Their host's nephew, James, a Viscount no less, seems rather taken with this particular sister for reasons he can't fully explain, yet makes perfect sense when everything is said and done.  It was a joy watching them slowly fall under the other's spell, though neither realized one was cast.  It was sweet, it was natural, it was everything for them both, and yet the ton would try to keep them apart.  Nice way to treat those that mean you no harm, right?  Right, and while saving your own skin may be the fashionable option, sometimes throwing prudence to the wind is truly all that's left to do.

A great start to a promising series, and a book that I'd highly recommend.  The story is intriguing, the characters near and dear to my heart, and the whole thing was just so much fun!  It's a wonderful addition to this author's body of works, and speaks volumes of her writing talent.  Historical Romance readers, do not pass this one up!

RRR presents...A Laird Without A Past by Jeanine Englert - REVIEW! + GIVEAWAY!

A Laird Without a Past
by
Jeanine Englert
Harlequin Books | Mills and Boon

About the book...

His past is forgotten…
Can his mysterious healer unlock his future?

When Royce wakes with no memories and suddenly blind, his situation seems dire. The only thing he remembers is being attacked by shadowy figures...but not the beautiful woman who came to his rescue. Now Iona MacKenzie’s every touch drives Royce wild. But when news of a manhunt for him reaches them, Royce must uncover his past if he has any chance of saving himself—and the woman he’s falling for…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We begin with a mysterious meeting turned double cross ⚔️ that leaves one man dead, and one man fighting for his life... and mind.
Lucky for him the shores he washed up on are friendly...or at least inhabited by some that are. Lucky for him the person that discovers him at his worst means him no harm and has a history rooted in healing. Lucky for him, things turn out as they do because it'd be easy to take advantage of the situation for better or worse. Royce and Iona are at different points in their lives, but at heart they are in sync, and that's what makes this story so heartwarming. He's suffered recent setbacks, she has in her past, but neither will let those obstacles stand between them and what's to come. Their determination is to be applauded, while their stubbornness allows for some smile worthy situations, including a few for fear old Jack!
A great pick for Historical Romance fans and a perfect addition to your summer reading list!
RRR presents... Her Unforgettable Knight by Melissa Oliver - REVIEW!
Back again with another Rachel's Random Resources tour starring the latest from author Melissa Oliver! It's a NEW TITLE available via Harlequin Books/Mills and Boon featuring knights in shining armor, ladies in distress, and a diabolical plot to take down a nobleman, and, long game, the Crown! Shocked? In dismay? Don't be as there's so much more to look forward to! Ladies and gents, I give you today's ebook of choice and blog tour guest...
Her Unforgettable Knight
by
Melissa Oliver
Harlequin Books  |  Mills and Boon
About the book...
She never forgot him…
Can she ever forgive him?
Part of Protectors of the Crown
Marguerite never expected to see Savaric again—let alone to have to help him when she finds him outnumbered in a fight. He’s the brooding knight she fell for two years ago, until he left her unexpectedly. Now Marguerite is a hardened spy, and wary of trusting him again. But how long can she resist their connection when they must work together to protect the Crown…?
Amazon UK - US
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This story picks up two years after the last one left off, and yet it didn't feel like nary a day has passed. Marguerite is still a remarkable and surprising woman, willing to do whatever it takes to restore her family's name. She's denying the feelings she still carries for a particular Knight for all the right reasons, well... to her at least, and yet if they were opening acknowledged there could be so much more worth fighting for.  Savaric is still a remarkable man despite his inner monolog of worthlessness, and overwhelming festive desire to remain alone to avoid anyone else facing the scorn he has his whole life.  Despite his many acts of goodness, all he can hear are the taunts, slurs, and weighty looks thrown his way. It'll take a special lady indeed to get passed his defenses, but the particular feisty lady that speaks to his heart, just so happens to have a the skills necessary to sneak right on by. Will the survive the challenges ahead to see this thing through? *dun dun dunnn*

I felt for BOTH of these characters so very much. Firstly, they've been dealing with these major bad guys for some time now, so a rest was sorely deserved, but would never be granted until all was said and done. FYI... all is said and done in this book! Second, they've both lost so much along the way, it was high time all their hard work and sacrifice paid off with more than another death on their hands. Thirdly, I wanted to see their hearts healed. I wanted to know that Marguerite was over her deadly encounter, and wouldn't be haunted by that snake any longer. I wanted to feel that Savaric accepted himself, and allowed others to as well, without worrying that those he trusts will turn on him. I wanted to see that happily ever after within their reach, realized... and followed to the end of its rainbow. I wanted a lot for this story, for these characters... and by jove, the author delivered!

A great read for Historical Romance fans and a wonderful addition to your summer reading list.  If you've read the other books in this mini series, you're all set... but if not, you can still make a go if it as a standalone.

Sarah Rodi

About the book...

She can be his lover
…but never his wife!

Forced into servitude, Wren is quietly miserable…until Jarl Knud arrives at her settlement, seeking an alliance through marriage. Despite their initial sizzling attraction Wren despises everything the Jarl represents—and he needs a high-status bride to save his people, not a servant like her. As Wren uncovers the man beneath the fierce Viking chief she’s tempted to claim one forbidden night of passion…but will it ever be enough?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~ GUEST POST ~~~

It’s all about the characters!
...written by Author by Sarah Rodi

I loved writing Wren and Jarl Knud’s story – these two characters are made for each other, even though their stations in life couldn’t be more different!

This is a rags to riches, enemies to lovers, forced proximity story, and I hope you enjoy it.

Set on the mudflats and hinterland of the Danish coast in the ninth century, Jarl Knud needs to secure a marriage alliance to keep his stronghold safe from the raiding tribes in the south, so he and his convoy from Nedergaard are on their way to Boer to talk terms of the marriage agreement between him and Earl Ingrid.

When he arrives, he is disturbed to see a beautiful thrall at Earl Ingrid’s side. Since he has ruled in Nedergaard, he has made it a place free of slavery, and the young woman, Wren, vulnerable yet spirited, reminds him of ghosts from his past.

Jarl Knud stands for everything Wren despises… When she was five years old, she was taken from her family by a Danish chief and given to his daughter (now Earl Ingrid), to be her thrall. She is quietly miserable and longs for escape. As she waits on Jarl Knud and his men, her contempt for him burns as fiercely as her sizzling attraction.

When Boer is attacked and Earl Ingrid is injured, Jarl Knud stays with Wren to help. As they attempt to escape their enemy and make their way to Nedergaard on a perilous journey, they grow closer. Yet Knud knows Wren is forbidden, and he must do his duty and marry Earl Ingrid once she has recovered, for the sake of his people. As Wren uncovers the man beneath the fierce Viking chief, she’s tempted to claim one night of passion… she can be his lover but never his wife, yet will that ever be enough?

I love to give my characters a tough time as then their successes and rewards are all the more meaningful. And boy, have Jarl Knud and Wren both suffered so much pain in the past. Jarl Knud is traumatised by a past relationship. His first experience of marriage, when he was a younger man, has left him ashamed - and determined never to fall in love again. Wren has had her freedom and family taken away from her and finds it hard to trust anyone. She has vowed one day she will be a free woman, and will never marry and be ruled by anyone again, not even a handsome Viking chief.

I knew these two were meant to be together from the start, and I had a great time setting these two on a path of adventure, watching them grow, develop and change throughout the story to achieve their happy ever after. I hope you enjoy getting to know my characters and share in their ups and downs, and I hope their personalities stay with you long after you’ve finished the last page.

RRR presents... A Laird For the Highland Lady by Catherine Tinley - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Did I mention I'm a fan of Historical Romance? Oh, wait...I did! Well good thing too,  seeing as today's Rachel's Random Resources tour stars another FABULOUS title from this genre! 😀  I'm excited, are you? Great! That means we can leave any further introductions by the wayside and dive right in. Ladies and gents, make room on your TBR for today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...

A Laird for the Highland Lady
by
Catherine Tinley
Harlequin Books  |  Mills and Boon

A sparkling, witty Regency set in the Scottish Highlands

Becoming a laird
…worthy of the Highland lady?

After an unexpected encounter with Eilidh MacDonald, Max Wood thinks this shockingly beautiful woman is unlike anyone he’s ever met! Working to restore the Scottish estate long neglected by his family, Max is achieving more than he thought possible. As a carefree second son, he’s never considered marriage—until now… But is shaking off his decadent persona enough to win the flame-haired lady who’s captured his heart?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh woah is me!
When I first started this review, I had actually just finished reading yet another (STAY TUNED!) Historical Romance and, quite frankly, was getting my thoughts jumbled! 😂 Oye, such are the troubles for avid readers, but I digress...
This story was unique. Full stop. No, really. It's the first time that I've read a book that, while possibly part of a mini series, or at least a loose duology, delves into a story that is not just familiar, but will give you a massive case of deja vu. I don't mean that in a bad way, just an unexpected way. Have you ever wanted to know about two side characters and the lives they carry on whilst reading a story about two other characters? THIS is your chance. You're thrown back into the situations and storyline from the preceding book (which, of course, makes this a great standalone read as well!), yet are viewing them through another set of eyes. Familiar, yet fascinating, and then halfway through the story, we move forward...
At this point, I was already fully invested, but very much ready to see how Max and Eilidh might carry on, once she was back on her home turf. I mean, Max had some rude awakenings coming, and certainly some enlightening revelations as well, but he needed to remember...he was not his brother, and there's always room for love. Pretty sure Eilidh was just the woman to show him those truths because you'd certainly need to be just as strong willed (stubborn, unrelenting... all said with kindness!) as this English gent to get through all the self loathing, and self doubt, to claim the heart of gold underneath it all.
A great pick for Historical Romance fans penned by an author that knows her craft!
RRR presents... The Viscount's Daring Miss by Lotte R James - REVIEW!
Hello again!
It's been a busy week here at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers, but the reading is EXCELLENT!  I mean, there are just SO MANY AMAZING titles coming out that it's hard to keep up, and that's just what I aim to help YOU do.  😉  ...by highlighting a few that I've adventured through the pages of and can share the results with all of you!
Today's duo of posts are two different tours with two different groups.  They both share a Romance theme, though one is Contemporary and the other Historical, but they share one other thing as well...strong, independent, take-no-crap-from-anyone leading ladies that you'll respect while having an AWESOME time with them through the pages.  I mean, calling either of them friend would be a grand time, both enlightening, and memorable, so, without further ado, let's meet and greet our first one coming to us via Rachel's Random Resources...
The Viscount’s Daring Miss
by
Lotte R. James
Harlequin Books  |  Mills & Boon
About the book...
May the best Viscount or Miss…
…win!
When her best friend and employer is injured, groom Roberta ‘Bobby’ Kingsley feels compelled to help him. She agrees to step into the saddle and compete in an endurance horse race to help secure his ancestral home. Yet the minute Bobby comes face to face with her opponent—arrogant yet infuriatingly charismatic Lawrence, Viscount Hayes—it’s clear that it won’t just be the competition that has her heart racing!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ah yes.
Give me a Harlequin Historical Romance any day, and I'm all set!

Roberta, aka Bobby, is such a treat, though Lawrence may have more to say about that in another connotation.  She's on the scene to help her lifelong friend out thanks to an injury he incurred in less manly more clumsy circumstances.  What's that have to do with the price of beans?  I'm getting there, hold your horses...although you'd be better off letting Bobby hold them for you!  She's something of a horse whisperer and the help she's providing involves a gentleman's challenge between her bestie, and the neighboring Viscount Hayes, where the winner either gets out of debt, or takes over the lands leaving the other not penniless, but close enough and certainly disgraced.  Guess which side she's on?  Yeah...the hoping to get out of debt one, and while the debt isn't hers, it might as well be because she's that close to Julian (the bestie), and a loss would also relocate her...so, win she must, and although the Viscount may be underestimating her severely, her mad skills will take the pep out of his step in no time.  Funny thing though, the pep isn't really out of either of their steps...in fact, it might be a bit bigger than before, and their outlooks, on life at least, a bit rosier.  Uh-oh...

Yeah, uh-oh indeed, but whew do things heat up in a hurry!  Try as they might, their "interactions" aren't purely physical transactions because at the heart of things, they really get one another.  They can be themselves, comfortable in their own skin, and while their banter and name calling gets a bit blustery, you can cut the tension with a butter knife!  Watching these two come together while trying their hardest to stay apart will have your pulse racing as much for their potential, if they can ever get to the part were feelings are admitted to themselves, let alone each other, as well as the outcome of the race.  Who wins?  Who loses?  It all depends on your point of view, and strength of heart.

A great pick for Historical Romance fans!

She’s thrilled to finally be writing those stories, and when she's not scribbling on tiny pieces of paper, she can usually be found wandering the countryside for inspiration, or nestling with coffee and a book.

REVIEW + GIVEAWAY starring... Conveniently Wed to the Laird by Jeanine Englert

You know that whole "I don't read Scottish, or Irish" stories much? Yeah, this year seems to have quite a few already... including today's Rachel’s Random Resources blog tour guest! It features a Historical Romance with a rather curious start that will take you through many emotions in no time flat, all while seeking out that happily ever after, whether the characters like it or not! Ladies and gents, may I present....

About the book...

The laird’s bridal bid…
Is love too high a price to pay?

When new laird, Ewan Stewart, comes across a wife for sale at a market, he outbids everyone to rescue her. He never intended for Catriona to become his bride, but a convenient marriage could secure his clan’s future and her freedom. They agree that their arrangement must stay free of love, yet Catriona’s bravery and fire intrigue him. Can Ewan resist falling for his wife—the one rule he must not break?

Ewan and Catriona.
Two souls that may never have crossed paths, if it weren't for a timely trip with his sister to the milliner, and a need to stretch his legs. Smart happens next could be written off as mere happenstance, but I dare you to try. There's too much right moment momentum, too much fate showing its cards, too much a heinous buffoon "disposing" of the only thing he has worth money because she rebuffed him.  Thank goodness Ewan was in the right place at this moment, and followed his inner compass without a moments despair because I shudder to think what might have happened otherwise. His lack of hesitation speaks volumes about the man behind the title, as does he care and further pursuit of Mrs Gordon. They may have started at very different places, but the ember that burns between them is ready and waiting to ignite!

It was wonderful to see a strong female lead with such a devastating background find her footing,  and go after her heart's desire. It was equally amazing to see the walls that our Laird Stewart built round his heart, crumble like so many discarded cravats put on in haste. Their chemistry was undeniable, but their stories, their histories were what made them who they are, and held them remember who they want to be. Seeing them both reach for the freedom they long desired, possibly finding it in one another, was pure magic. A great addition to your must read list to wile away an afternoon in the beautiful highlands.
