No lie, I enjoyed this book...but I think I would have been enraptured by it had I read the first two!

The Nevermoor world has always been on my reading radar, but I've just never have a chance to step into it.  My first entry was this book, the third in the series, and I can only liken it to the world of the infamous HP.  It IS it's own world with unique characters, creatures, places, and wunders that, in my opinion, the longer you immerse yourself in, the better you are (and your enjoyment of the story) is for it.  I loved all the curious "things" that seemed to have minds of their own.  I enjoyed learning about wunder and how it is called, harnassed (or not), wielded, and grown.  I felt like a member of the 919 crew, espite not have a knack of my own to tote with pride.  Jupiter was a hoot!  The unnimals were familiar, but the wunnimals were spectacular...even when things go very, VERY wrong!  Thing is, it's not just about the magic and the wunder, but the way preconceived notions can blind us to the truth, how prejudice can be dangerous, and how darkness never really dies, it just sort of slumbers.

So, step inside and experience the world of Nevermoor and see how you would fair in a fight with the Big Scaly creatures, or get a front row lesson in Distraction with hopefully humorous versus blood-letting results!  You certainly won't be sorry...but if you have a sec, I'd definitely backtrack to book one and two!

Jessica Townsend lives on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, but has lived on and off in London for a few years. She was a copywriter for eight years, and in a previous role, was the editor of a children's wildlife magazine for Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. This was an uber fun rhyming picture book that will not only help kiddos out with learning their ABCs in a fun new way, but also goes a long way in reminding us that at heart, where it really counts, we are really all the same.  We may look different at first glance, have different interests, likes, dislikes, beliefs, and attractions...but we all share one thing.  We all belong to the same race...the HUMAN race.  Our differences are something to be celebrated because that celebration lifts up another human being who deserves that recognition, who is worthy of that praise, that moment, that time in the spotlight, but in the end, it really elevates us all.  I love how this concept was illustrated so wonderfully throughout the story...as you can see above...with gorgeous full color displays and humor, but it just goes to connect the worded message visually so that it sticks even more.

All in all, a great read for the tykes, but also a great reminder for us all in these times, or any times really.

The illustrations are gorgeous.  The story is heartfelt.  The feelings come through loud and clear from page to page as the family struggles with their circumstances, and try to find hope in what seems like a lost cause.  I loved little Daisy and her pure desire for a lifelong companion, a friend, a sibling that she would be able to help take care of and would grow in her heart as they grew hand in hand.  She was a sweetheart and would never give up, just like her adoring parents.  To add the cherry on top of this already desirable story sundae...finding out this charming tale was based on a true story, just added that little something extra to the magic within.

So experience Christmas through a child's eyes, filled with hope, wonder, and magic...but not for something that comes from a store....but rather something that comes from the heart.
