BLOG TOUR: Even Monsters by AJ Smith

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers…the place where you can count on BIG bookish fun every day of the week…well, almost every day anyway.  ^_^

Today, we are cutting loose with the folks from Sourcebooks Jabberwocky (gotta love the name!) with a Children’s Picture Book that’s gonna be all the rage…and we’re not just talking with the kiddos here.  I mean sure these types of adventures were created with the wee ones in mind, incorporating less words per page and highly colorful illustrations to capture the imagination, but guess what?  ~whispers~ They’re just as fun for grown ups with imagination too!  So, anyone out there ready for fun, as well as the chance to not only share reading time with the kiddos but impart a valuable life lesson?  Here we go!  Today’s book of choice is…

We all know monsters can GROWL, ROAR, GRUMBLE and so on….but did you also know that in a lot of ways, they are just like us?  Yep.  That’s right.  Author AJ Smith invites us into the wonderful world of MONSTERS both as we THINK we know them and that everyday part of their lives we were not formerly acquainted with.  Well I’ve got news for you…you’re about to be INTIMATELY introduced…but not in a creepy way, just in a knowing-the-daily-habits-of-right-down-to their-Fur-of-the-Loom-changing habits.  *giggle*  (No seriously, you have to see the pic!)

This is one of those reads that has something for everyone, which I understand you hear an awful lot, but how about this one…it also caters to every size gathering.  New one, right?  (^_^) For the one-on-one audience (perhaps with a parent/guardian/sibling and child combo…and no, you can’t have fries with that), you get the opportunity to grow closer through the touching moments in the story as well as the shared time, while also learning that some of the things kiddos may not want to do are the same things required of monsters so really, what’s there to balk at?  (^_^)  In a group setting, the story telling style affords us the chance to involve the audience with ROARS and SNARLS, dancing and clapping, and other feel good moments of interaction keeping things lively and memorable while still capturing the lessons being imparted.

In short, a fantastic edutainment opportunity that you won’t even see coming…but guess what?  Neither will the kiddos…and by the time they do, it’ll be too late!  The lesson will be learned, the fun will be had, and no hard feelings will be felt…a win win for all!  Besides, my recommendation or not (which of course this one gets), how can you resist at the very least picking up a book with a cover like that?  Too cute.  ^_^

In the mean time or even simply to extend the fun, pay a visit to the official EVEN MONSTERS site where scary good times await the tallest to the smallest and everyone in between...and while we're on the subject of good times, there's a monster size contest going on right now that the kiddos might want to know about!

Children ages 2-9 can send in their best monsters drawings for the chance to have their art animated into their own music video! The best 100 drawings will appear in a special Even Monsters art gallery, and the top 20 drawings will be animated into their own music video!  Just follow the deets pictured below or click on over to the contest page.

Until next time…happy reading!

One of the cutest monsters I've ever seen. I know I, sorry did I say I, I of course meant my great-nephews would love this.
