Leo stands with so much force it pushes his chair over, bumping the table and knocking some of Teague’s test results to the floor.

“Mason, this teacher is clearly incompetent and I want her replaced—no, f*** that—I want her fired.”

I don’t give Mason much time to reply. I stand just as fast and, though he has a good six inches on me, I’m in his face.

“Okay, Mr. Eastman, you want me fired so badly, answer me this. How much time do you spend with Teague each day on his homework? I’ve sent home small readers with questions to be answered each day, even if you have to write the responses for him. I’ve never gotten a completed form in return.” As I speak, the harsh teacher tone takes over and demands his attention. I don’t miss how his hands curl into fists when I continue. “I’ve sent him home with a phonetical set of flash cards and a completion sheet. After ten times, he gets a reward. I have yet to receive that back. The same goes for number recognition. So, you tell me I’m not doing my job. But, since turnabout is fair play, how are you doing on your end? It takes a village, Mr. Eastman. Let me know when you move in and we can talk.”

Leo:

How is it that a man who has access to countless hot women wakes on the morning of his kid’s playdate like it’s f***ing Christmas? And with a jolly ripe boner at the thought of his son’s teacher. Yeah, this guy here. I’m not ashamed of it but is it appropriate to ask this woman out while we are essentially chaperoning our daughters? See, I haven’t always been a manwhore. With Dez, I was the most committed father and husband—I only had eyes for her. And maybe these new feelings make it obvious I’m ready to start over again.

With the first glance at my phone, I’m accosted with a shit-ton of texts from Donna. She invited me over last night but I’d told her I was taking my kids to the movies. This crazy, bleached-blonde tried to invite herself with us to see Venom. She had no idea it was a Marvel movie, in addition to being oblivious to the fact that I’d never let her get within arm’s reach of my kids. A good f*** she’s been but that’s all she ever could be. And now, after imagining the teacher as a person I want more than sex with, I’m on the offensive with today’s playdate. But don’t f***ing get me wrong—I sure as f*** want to fill her up—but I want more than that. I can’t f***ng believe that I, Leo Eastman, am admitting to this.

Shit, shit, shit. But it’s true.

You know them and sometimes love them, but one that often gets overlooked because it's so hard to deal with is SADNESS. It's not a pleasant topic, but it is a fact of life...at some point, we all get sad...and today's book of choice handles it beautifully. Ready or not, here comes....

This book came at the perfect time for me. It was just after I had started getting back online after the storm-that-shall-not-be-named and I was just beginning to process my feelings about everything that happened. Grant it, I'm STILL processing, but sadness is definitely one of the multitude of feelings I've become well acquainted with.

Anyone that's been through any tragedy, natural or otherwise, knows this blue cloud that seems to hover and while adults may have more experiences to draw from in dealing with it, or a larger circle of friends with which to talk it through...children are often going through it for the first time. Do you remember the first time you were sad? Do you remember what made you blue, unhappy, down in the dumps, or otherwise? Chances are no...but at the time, it was your WHOLE WORLD. Everywhere you went, it followed, and how to shake its grip was beyond your comprehension. Hopefully, you had a loving family to guide you back to your self, but just think if you had a book like this in your library, or rather if your parents or other adult had it in their arsenal of bookish "weapons". Well, okay, so I guess I skipped the reason WHY this would be so great....

Between these pages filled with just the right balance of words and images, we see sadness as a "thing" not some invisible phantom. We learn to acknowledge its presence, to even embrace it to a certain degree, giving it what it needs in order to allow it to one day slip away. Little ones have a lead character to identify with, and the visual sadness helps them to understand that the feelings they have are not something to be frightened of, but rather something to grow from on their journey to being big boys and girls.

I gotta say, I was SO EXCITED when I heard this one was coming out. I mean, I LOVED the previous titles, and simply couldn't wait to see what was in store for the next potential-couple-to-be in this spicy, yet charming series. Was I disappointed? Nope, not in the least...in fact, I was pleasantly surprised, and fell in love with more than the leading man. Ready or not, here comes today's book of choice....

“Sadie.”

She shook her head.

“Look at me. Please?”

It was the damn please that had her opening her eyes. He’d closed the gap so that if she so much as took a breath, they’d be touching.

So she did just that. She took a deep breath, and then their bodies were up against each other, his warm and hard. Everywhere. “What’s happening?” she whispered.

“I believe you’re deciding between kicking me in the nuts and kissing me.” One side of his mouth curved very slightly as he lifted their still joined hands above her head, against the wall.

“But that last part might just be in my dreams.”

“Yes,” she whispered.

“Yes, it’s just in my dreams?”

She meant to say yes again, she really did.

She even opened her mouth to say it, because this was insane, this incredible . . . craving she had for him. It made no sense. Less than no sense, and yet . . .

She went up on tiptoe and touched her mouth to his.

This story just hit the spot. It was one of the first Contemporary Romances I've read since the storm-that-shall-not-be-named and it FELT SO GOOD to indulge in Jill Shalvis' work once again. It was like coming home and catching up with old friends...grant it, incredibly gorgeous, talented, and otherwise well off old friends, but still, not everything has as pretty of a past as its present self presents...a lesson we learn in spades in this story.

Sadie Lane and Caleb are setting off sparks enough to ignite a tent of fireworks from a 1000 feet away, even if one of them is working their hardest to put a damper on those combustible emissions before they have a chance to work their magic. In this case, it's Sadie putting the brakes on. Why? Because...she doesn't think she's worth it, or at least that's what it REALLY boils down to...but the thing is, Caleb is more than what he seems. I mean sure, he's gorgeous, built, well off, incredibly smart, caring, generous....*sigh* I think I'm in love...but his world wasn't always so polished, and he's bound and determined to show her the error of her way of thinking.

I gotta say, I loved it so much more than I even thought I would...the characters, their history, their triumphs and failures, their journey, and of course LOLLIPOP! OMG...the addition of this three-legged rescued furry friend was the cherry on the already irresistible sundae. You'll ride the highs, and sink with the lows, as these two work out how to get exactly what they want out of life, and love, even when it doesn't look like what they thought they wanted from the start. My only hang up....the cover. I know, I know...don't judge a book and all that, and while I totally subscribe to that mantra, I just didn't feel this one as much as the others in the series. The character representations? Spot on. The setting...I get it, but it just didn't hit the spot. Cie la vie, the story ROCKED, so regardless of your dislike or lust for the imagery, get thyself to your favorite bookstore or online portal stat and grab your copy today! Oh and yeah, older teen through adult readers only.
