RRR presents... LOVE AND OHANA DRAMA by Melissa Baldwin - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're joining Rachel's Random Resources for a spot along their current tour starring a Romantic Comedy that will also find a home on the bookshelves of Contemporary Romance, Chick-Lit, and Women's Fiction readers.  To say the story is multi-faceted would be obvious.  To say it was relatable would be too easy!  To say that it was a great trip, all bumps included, to the Hawaiian islands that, while gorgeous, I'm not certain our leading lady would choose to to go on again...willingly at least...would be pretty precise, but hey, there's a lot more here than meets the eye, so grab your passport and pack lightly!  We're heading over the seas to the tropical island paradise of Oahu to venture between the pages of today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...

Love and Ohana Drama
by
Melissa Baldwin

About the book...
Love and Ohana Drama is a romantic comedy that explores the challenges of family dynamics and reminds readers that there is always hope for a second chance. Sometimes the most challenging situations bring the most happiness . . .

Twenty-something Cora Fletcher is a book-loving public relations executive who lives with her overly Zen best friend and attention-loving cat. Newly single and focusing on her exciting career, she feels like she’s in a good place. She's even been invited on an all-expenses-paid Hawaiian vacation! The only catch—it’s a family reunion . . . and her family can be a lot to handle.

Cora vows to not let that get in the way, but even before the family has boarded the plane, the ohana drama begins. As usual, there's the sister-in-law who is bent on causing friction, the self-centered cousins, and the aunt who loves to party a bit too much. Her mother has filled the itinerary with endless activities, and she's even invited Cora’s ex-boyfriend in an attempt to get them back together.
Although she feels overwhelmed, Cora gets a blast from her past that could impact her life forever. This is one welcome reunion she did not expect . . .

Will Cora make it through a week of family togetherness? And will she be able to say aloha to someone she thought was out of her life forever?

AMAZON  US  |  UK

💮     🍍     💮     🍍     💮

Cora will be instantly recognizable as "one of those characters" the moment you first meet.  You know the ones....they make themselves indispensable, currying favor with their audience because you can just see them as you, or rather you as them.  Not a bad place to be in this situation, especially with the impending travel plans, but then again, there is one little tiny miniscule hitch in all these plans...and it starts with an "F".  That's right.  You guessed it!  FAMILY.  The trip isn't just to celebrate her parents anniversary, but a WHOLE lot more, and when you crank up the volume on how many people will be there, combine it with underlying tensions, and matchmaking attempts that SERIOUSLY need to quit, you've got yourselves a mess of epic proportions that promises to be most memorable.

Honestly, I enjoyed it!  Cora was a great lead.  Her decision to go with the flow versus buck the trend, totally drew my respect because with everything being thrown at her the way it was, I'm not so certain I could do it.  But do it, she must...and with spectacular results!  Off the leads, I really felt her bestie, Fran.  We don't have long face to face, but it's obvious she wants what's best for her friend, and her words of wisdom definitely go a long way in getting Cora where she wants/needs to be.  As far as love interests are concerned, it's cringeworthy to watch the family play love connection, while totally heart warming to see her, however accidentally, rekindle something she thought long buried.  With all the laughs and drama along the way, it's no wonder why they chose to gather everyone together...the entertainment value!  No, no, no, just kidding.  It was to catch up on old times, and strengthen the loving bonds of family...while trying not to strangle one another with the extra rope!

In the end, it was a delightful read that will really transport you to the magical islands of Hawaii, while bringing you closer to the idea of second chances, new beginnings, and true love...all waiting for you with a side of belly laughs and beauty!

~~~   EXCERPT   ~~~
Introduction to extract- William Geraint has been searching far and wide for the lost heiress, Lady Isabel de Clancey. In the small village of St. Jean de Cole, in Aquitaine, he believes he might finally have discovered her. In the scene below he ingratiates himself in a group dance so that he can find out more…
He raised a brow. ‘Apologies, I do not mean to make you feel uncomfortable.’
‘Do you not?’
He smirked. ‘No.’
Isabel had to admit that there was something quite appealing about him when he smiled like that, with a sudden, unexpected spark of humour in his azure-blue eyes.
‘Well, what were you doing then, messere?’
They moved past each other in the circle and looped around the other couples before pivoting around to stand side by side, the length of her arm against the solid warmth of his. She felt slightly breathless being in such close proximity to the man.
‘I’m trying to ascertain whether you are someone I met briefly a long time ago.’
‘Oh? But I have never seen you before in my life,’ she said too quickly as they parted again, thankfully, and danced a few steps with different partners before returning to face each other.
‘I’m not so sure. There is something about your eyes that looks familiar to me.’
Dear God!
Her hazel-green eyes would have to give her away. They had always plagued her for being so strange…so uncommon and different. One eye had a dark patch across it, which meant that people always believed her eyes to be of two separate colours, even going as far as to call her names. Even her own father believed she was cursed because of this affliction.
‘I don’t think so, sir.’
He tilted his head as he watched her. ‘Pity, since I am starting to think differently.’ He took her hand and swung it up and above her head, allowing her to twirl around and under their joined hands.
For goodness sake. ‘Pity, since you are mistaken.’
‘I don’t think so. The more I look at you, the more I believe that it is you.’
They parted again and moved to the opposite side of one another, weaving around one couple and then coming together in a large connected circle.
‘Who are you?’ she demanded, frowning.
‘William Geraint at your service, but my friends call me Will.’
‘You and I are not friends, messere.’
First things first because otherwise it will sit in the room like a pink elephant waiting to be acknowledged...for those that follow my Instagram, you may have logged a comment regarding the cover on my #amreading post. It wasn't bad, just my opinion, and quite honestly, I still stand by it. Not every book is for every reader, nor every cover the perfect match for catching someone's attention. FOR ME, if I was picking this up by the cover alone, I might have passed it by...it just didn't do anything for me...HOWEVER, I'm SO GLAD that I DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER because I certainly enjoyed the story within!
Whit and Jamie were a fairy tale waiting to happen...emphasis on the waiting though because their match was on spot back in college AND in present times, if only they learned to express themselves and not simply try to guess what the other person really wants. OMG! I was ready to throttle one or the other then AND now when things were getting dicey! Just open your mouth and let the words fall out...and now I've got that song stuck in my head, but anyway, back to the story.
I loved the dynamic these two had. The chemistry was there, no doubt, but they could appreciate each other beyond the superficial. When the real sharing started happening, both for the writing project and catching up on the last few years, the connection they forged didn't feel new, but rather reinforced. There was simply no way that you couldn't see these two making it work...again, if they could get out of their own way! *ahem* Neither of them was a fool, but a fool for love was definitely a twice owned title. Watching them grow together again, feeling the feelings they shared, experiencing both the memories and the new ones created was heartwarming. Despite their chosen extracurricular activities of the past, your heart was racing just as much as they declared a snow day, enjoyed the full pleasures of the Roman Baths, and each others company. I suppose it's the maturity that comes with age that made their relationship THAT much more special as well as their life experiences taking a little of the shine from the day to day, but don't worry, those stolen glances, will they/won't they moments, and tension filled silences will definitely keep them youthful! *smirk*
All in all, a great read! It's not all a walk down memory lane to an uncertain but hoped for HEA, because both characters have had to deal with dark things in the years between, some darker than others. It does go to show you that with perseverance, an open heart, and time, new beginnings are still possible...and love can conquer all.
Walden Pond Press presents... THE IN-BETWEEN by Rebecca K. S. Ansari - REVIEW!
Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, I'm thrilled as punch to hep kick off a fabulous book tour for a newly released title (just yesterday!) by author Rebecca K. S. Andari via Walden Pond Press!  It's a work of Middle Grade Fiction that has a healthy serving of mystery, a heaping scoop of reality, and a whole lot of heart!  Seriously guys, I JUST finished reading it and I'm still reeling.  So roll out the red carpet and double check that what you just saw across the street is still what you saw across the street, because here comes today's blog tour guest and book of choice...
The In-Between
About the book...
A dark, twisty adventure about the forgotten among us and what it means to be seen, from the acclaimed author of The Missing Piece of Charlie O’Reilly.
Cooper is lost. Ever since his father left their family three years ago, he has become distant from his friends, constantly annoyed by his little sister, Jess, and completely fed up with the pale, creepy rich girl who moved in next door and won’t stop staring at him. So when Cooper learns of an unsolved mystery his sister has discovered online, he welcomes the distraction.
It’s the tale of a deadly train crash that occurred a hundred years ago, in which one young boy among the dead was never identified. The only distinguishing mark on him was a strange insignia on his suit coat, a symbol no one had seen before or since. Jess is fascinated by the mystery of the unknown child— because she’s seen the insignia. It’s the symbol of the jacket of the girl next door.
As they uncover more information— and mounting evidence of the girl’s seemingly impossible connection to the tragedy—Cooper and Jess begin to wonder if a similar disaster could be heading to their hometown.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

First things first, that cool as all get out and yet ultra creepy cover!  Once you get started in the book, you can see where the different elements come from and the significance of each, but before you read...it's another puzzle needing to be solved, and I was only so happy to have the chance to do just that!

Story wise...I was glued to every page!  The mystery of the catastrophes, the appearance of the crest, the fixture of a girl across the way with little to no interaction, the unusual things they seem to be only privy too (well, Jess, Coop, and Gus, that is)…shall I keep going?  Okay, but really....the friendships lost and found, the family connections severed and built, the sense of self and importance rediscovered...there are so many areas of interest to follow, and yet you never lose sight of the main thread.  You feel included in this sibling plus friend trio, and despite their own doubts as to their standing in their own worlds, they are quite clearly an important part of your own once you're between the pages.

I can't risk saying too much because to ruin the mystery at its heart would break my own...and trust me, mine was already broken as I had tears streaming down my face further along in the book...but suffice it to say, this is one family despite its history that you will want to be a part of.  This is one gathering of friends that you will want to know.  This is one story that will keep you on edge right to the very last page, and you most definitely won't soon forget.  I mean, once someone has impacted your life, how can they ever truly be gone...

TLC BOOK TOURS presents... THE VINEYARD AT THE PAINTED MOON by Susan Mallery - EXCERPT!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're teaming up with TLC Book Tours to spread some PRE BOOK BIRTHDAY BUZZ about the latest Susan Mallery title coming your way via HQN Books this February!  It's a work of Contemporary Fiction that sounds like it blends equal parts family, friends, and heart...and who couldn't use a good dose of that?!  Ready or not, here comes today's title in the spotlight...

by
Susan Mallery
HQN Books

About the book...
Step into the vineyard with Susan Mallery’s most irresistible novel yet, as one woman searches for the perfect blend of love, family and wine.

Mackenzie Dienes seems to have it all—a beautiful home, close friends and a successful career as an elite winemaker with the family winery. There’s just one problem—it’s not her family, it’s her husband’s. In fact, everything in her life is tied to him—his mother is the closest thing to a mom that she’s ever had, their home is on the family compound, his sister is her best friend. So when she and her husband admit their marriage is over, her pain goes beyond heartbreak. She’s on the brink of losing everything. Her job, her home, her friends and, worst of all, her family.

Staying is an option. She can continue to work at the winery, be friends with her mother-in-law, hug her nieces and nephews—but as an employee, nothing more. Or she can surrender every piece of her heart in order to build a legacy of her own. If she can dare to let go of the life she thought she wanted, she might discover something even more beautiful waiting for her beneath a painted moon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~   EXCERPT   ~~~

“How does it feel to be a magnificent blessing?” Four asked with a grin.

Mackenzie did her best not to groan. “It’s better than last year when she said I was a miracle brought into the family to take Bel Après to greatness. Although technically I’m pretty sure she said I brought a magnificent blessing, not that I was one.” She looked at her youngest sister-in-law. “Sorry about her enthusiasm.”

“Don’t be. We love you just as much. Or maybe more. Our love isn’t conditional.”

Four was right about that, Mackenzie thought. Barbara always claimed Mackenzie was her favorite, but that affection was very much tied to her work in the winery. If she hadn’t been interested in Bel Après, Mackenzie wasn’t completely sure Barbara would have allowed the wedding to take place.

“She is a challenge,” she murmured. “She is,” Four agreed. “She’s my mother and I love her, but there is something deeply wrong with her. I can’t figure out if she was traumatized as a child or if she was just plain born mean.”

The stark assessment surprised Mackenzie. “You think she’s mean?”

Four’s eyes brightened with amusement. “Do you think she’s nice?”

“I wouldn’t say nice. She can be…exacting. But she’s always been good to me.”

“She has, and you deserve her affection.” Four hugged her. “You have an open and giving heart that warms us all. You are the fairy dust that allows us to fly.” She waved her glass. “Oh, and you’re magnificent.”

“I agree.”

The male voice came from behind her. Mackenzie turned to see Bruno Provencio walk up to join them. The man knew how to dress, she thought. Like Rhys, Bruno wore slacks and a long-sleeved shirt, but somehow the clothes were more elegant on him. Barbara said his clothes were all custom—a concept Mackenzie understood intellectually but made no sense to her on a day-to-day basis. Why take the time when you could buy stuff online and have it delivered with just a few clicks?

Something she would guess that Bruno had never done in his life, she thought, trying not to smile. Bruno came from money. He was good-looking, with dark hair and brown eyes, and carried himself with an air of confidence that added to the appeal.

One day she would be confident, too, she told herself. If not in this life, then maybe the next.

She groaned. “Don’t say magnificent, please. Barbara was just being…” “Her usual charming self,” Bruno said, taking Mackenzie’s free hand in his and leaning in to kiss her cheek. He did the same with Four.

“Successful party, as always,” he said.

“It’s all Stephanie,” Mackenzie told him, setting her empty glass on the passing server’s tray.

Bruno held out his hand to Mackenzie. “A dance?”

She smiled and nodded. She wasn’t sure if she gave off a nondancer vibe or if it was her position as Rhys’s wife and Barbara’s daughter-in-law, but almost none of the men at the party wanted to dance with her. But every year, Bruno asked and she happily agreed.

They moved toward the dance floor and joined the other couples there. Rhys was dancing and chatting with the owner of a local fashion boutique. Barbara and Giorgio were wrapped in each other’s arms.

Bruno put his hand on her waist, keeping a respectable distance, and they began to move to the music.

“Perfect weather for the party,” he said.

She glanced toward the setting sun. “It is. We were lucky it wasn’t too hot.” The high eighties were manageable, but a day in the nineties would have made for an uncomfortable event.

“We’re seeing more of you than usual,” she added. “Do you have new business in the area?”

Bruno was a wine distributor—at least that was how he described himself. She knew he also invested in a few wineries and had more money than God, and when he flew into town, he did so on a private jet. But aside from that, he was a mystery. A handsome mystery, but still, an unknown. “I’m thinking of buying a winery,” he admitted.

“You are? I knew you were an investor, but I didn’t think you wanted more than that.”

He gave her a half smile. “I like being in charge.”

About the book...
High school sweethearts Mia and Luke get a second chance at love in this brand-new contemporary romance from award-winning author Garrett Leigh.

When Mia Amour returns to England to open a florist shop, all she wants to do is put her lousy ex behind her and never look back. But getting a fresh start is easier said than done when her first love, the boy who once broke her teenage heart, strolls back into her life. He’s every bit as sexy as she remembers, and the urge to melt back into his arms almost makes her forget how devastated she was when he took off without a word. Almost.

Left with no choice, Luke Daley did what he had to do, leaving town to earn enough money to save his broken family, though it just about broke him, too. But now he’s back, running his uncle’s business and trying desperately to forget about Mia, the girl he left behind all those years ago. When he runs into her in town, the shock of seeing her again brings an intense rush of emotions: love, guilt…and an overwhelming urge to find out if it’s still as amazing between them as it used to be.

It doesn’t take either of them long to give in to desire and discover the fiery passion they once shared burns hotter than ever. With each new touch, each moment of forgiveness, old hurts heal and the future they’d hoped for ten years ago becomes possible again. But their fragile connection is tested by a threat neither of them saw coming—a threat that could end their second chance before it even gets started.

**  Quick word of caution, this book tends to run both HOT in the match up department and LOOSE in the language arena, so if you tend to shy away from scenes that definitely get a bit down and dirty, or the F-bomb is going to fray your nerves too thin, it may not be the best match for you. Now that being said... **

Mia and Luke are both forces to be reckoned with.  Whether in business or pleasure, they attack the situation with everything they've got...including their hearts, no matter HOW MUCH they'll try to deny it.  When they are together, the force is multiplied by 100 and windows can be blown by the sheer force of their chemistry.  Even with time having passed, and hurts lingering from their shared history, those feelings were grounded in something stronger, and despite the fact that neither wants an entanglement with the other, the heart wants what it wants.

Watching these two play cat and mouse with their hearts are humorous, frustrating, and ultimately satisfying...and I'm not being masochistic.  Seeing them knock down each others walls, struggle through the awkward times, and try to find their footing was a treat.  Grant it, I think both them and I could have done without the creepy stalker activity and death threats, but hey, that's part and party to getting them to where they need to be...so I say bring on the hard times; these two (if they ever really get it together!) can take on anything life throws their way!

In the end, the potential couple to be was a perfect fit, and I really liked the familial aspect with Gus and Billy.  My only regret was that I wish the stalker aspect was fleshed out more instead of the instant reveal and final outcome all in one...but it did have closure, so there is there.  Recommended for adult Contemporary Romance fans who like some smoke AND fire in their nightly reading...

Trust Me

About the book...
Brooke Anderson never pictured herself as a divorcee at twenty-eight. But when she mentions getting a post-nup to her husband Garrett after one deliciously sex-filled year, he promptly serves her with divorce papers. Admittedly, she could’ve told him about how her father left her and her mother homeless when she was young, and how she’s never been wired to trust anyone. Especially those closest to her. Now, all she wants to do is avoid anywhere he might be so she won’t have to face him again.

But she’s not the only one who can’t seem to trust.

Garrett Call grew up with parents who married for money and wants no part of a life that puts material possessions above love. He reinvented himself in college, complete with a new last name so he couldn’t be tied to his family’s lucrative business. He never even told Brooke the truth. Admittedly, he could’ve handled the issue of a post-nup better with his ex-wife. Maybe he didn’t count on how much he was going to miss having her in his life.

When their best friends’ wedding forces the exes to see each other again, a dangerous man from Garrett’s world threatens Brooke’s life. And they realize the only way to save themselves is to finally learn to trust each other.

~~~   EXCERPT   ~~~
Context: At the beginning of the book, Brooke is having doubts about the choice she made to divorce the ex she’s still in love with.
The first rule of singledom was to not think about your ex. Or his fingers. Or his tongue. Or how good his stubble felt on smooth skin.
Brooke crossed her legs in the hopes of relieving the ache between them. She had done the right thing. Her year-long marriage to Garrett had been nice. Sexy. But a divorce was the right idea. Even if it hadn’t been her idea.
She could admit that she’d panicked. When her co-worker, who was on the fast track to becoming partner at the firm, was fired suddenly and with no warning, Brooke realized the same thing could happen to her.
She and Garrett were both fiercely independent, and the thought of losing that, having to depend on someone else… She couldn’t do it. And worse, what if Garrett didn’t want to take care of her while she searched for another job? He would leave her, just like her father had left her and her mother when finances got too bad.
To her, a post-nup seemed like the perfect solution. That way, if she lost her job, Garrett would still feel financially secure and wouldn’t feel like he had to help her out. Money didn’t have to be an issue between them.
Unfortunately, Garrett hadn’t agreed.
The minute she had brought up signing a post-nup, Garrett had balked. He’d walked right out of their Manhattan apartment and reappeared hours later to tell her they should get a divorce right then because there was no way in hell he would ever sign a post-nup, not for anyone. Post-nups were for people who weren’t really in love, and if she felt that way, they should end it.
It was the first time Brooke could remember seeing literal red. It still stung to think he’d said it, that he thought she didn’t love him just because she wanted to make a smart financial decision. She would’ve talked with him about it if he’d let her, but he was so arrogant and cold about it all. So opposite from how he normally was.
And yeah, maybe she could’ve relinquished a bit of her pride, but it still wouldn’t have fixed it. She was on track to start making seven figures a year by the end of the year, and she didn’t want to end up like her mother: abandoned by her husband and raising a child on welfare.
Maybe she’d never told any of that to Garrett, but it shouldn’t matter. He should be willing to bend a little. If he really loved her, wouldn’t he have signed it?
She knew she should’ve asked about a pre-nup before they were actually married. Though, their wedding hadn’t exactly been orthodox. They’d been in Atlantic City for the weekend with their friends Chad and Noah, and Garrett had just asked her. She could still remember the sea breeze whipping her hair back as she looked down at him on one knee. The Boardwalk had been the perfect place to propose. Intoxicated by the sights and the way Garrett made her feel, she’d said yes.
They’d gotten married in a small chapel an hour later.
It wasn’t fair to bring up a post-nup after a year of marriage, and she’d thought she could handle it, but it had grown to the point where she was having trouble sleeping at night, imagining what would happen if Garrett suddenly decided he wanted a divorce and she had no legal paperwork to protect her.
And what if they’d had children? What if he walked out and she couldn’t take care of them? She couldn’t bear the thought of being homeless again, especially with a child.
