Rockstar Book Tours presents... SAM SAVES THE NIGHT by Shari Simpson - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

HI there!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN from Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're serving up a little spooky fun book style with a new(ish) release via Disney-Hyperion!  It's been making its way through the blogosphere this month with Rockstar Book Tours and today is MY day to share the curiosities, the mad scientist mayhem, and ultimately the power that we hold within each of us to fight the good fight!  Ready or not, join me in this Middle Grade adventure as we welcome today's blog tour guest and book of choice...

Sam Saves the Night
Sleep Wakers, Book 1
Shari Simpson

About the book...
What would you do if you could stay out all night and not get in trouble?

Thirteen-year-old Sam has no friends, but you can't really blame her. She lives her life in a state of chronic exhaustion thanks to her nightly sleepwalking jaunts, which include trips to the store, treehouse-building projects, and breaking-and-entering escapades-none of which she remembers in the morning. Her condition is taking its toll on her family (and her life), so when her mom takes her to see a wacky strip-mall sleep specialist, Sam is wary, but 100 percent in.

The night after the doc works his mojo, Sam wakes up outside her body, watching herself sleep. FREAKY! But once she gets over the panic attack, she realizes there's a whole world of detached-souls out there, called SleepWakers-cliques of kids like the Achieves, who use their sleep time to learn new things; the Numbs, who eat junk food and play video games all night long, and the OCDeeds who search for missing things and organize other people's stuff. And then there are the Mean Dreams, led by Madalynn Sucret, the nicest girl in Sam's school, who shows Sam that she can use her power to get back at a bully who's been tormenting her. Sam is intrigued-until it becomes clear that Madalynn is the real bully and the "tormentor" is just, well... sad. Now Sam is faced with uniting the various tribes of SleepWakers to fight back against Madalynn and the Mean Dreams in the most epic battle the night has ever seen.

This was SUCH a FUN read!

Okay, so sleepwalking is nothing to joke about.  I mean, I'm sure most of you have heard some crazy stories involving things that people have done while extraordinarily sleep deprived, and they say waking a person the is caught in this state should be done ever so delicately or even avoided (if possible) at all costs.  It sends a shock to the system as the brain tries to catch up to what's going on...well then riddle me this.  How much of a shock do you think our little leading lady had to deal with when she was found building a tree house, complete with the use of a chainsaw and other various tools, in a GIANT tree in the dead of night...ALL...WHILE...SLEEPWALKING.  Exactly.  An EXTREMELY RIDICULOUS amount of shock at the very least...or not.  Why?  Well, it was an unfortunate normal for Sam, but it didn't make it any less dangerous, any less something to be concerned with, or any less a thing about herself that she would change in a heartbeat.  Well, at least until one sclera challenged scientist (only slightly mad...for the most part) gets involved and things start to...change...

Honestly, I was fascinated enough with her nighttime adventures that when this new level of curiosity inducing drama was introduced, I was so in the zone that I couldn't stop turning pages!  I mean, what WOULD Sam do next?  Would the "doctor" save her?  Were the unusual side effects of the study something to worry about?  What would Sam do with her new curious "powers"? Who would her delightful pug-gy friend cuddle next? Oh yeah, and just who was this Madalynn Sucret and what hold did she have on everyone?  There were SO MANY questions, and only so many answers, but hey...that leaves room for more exploration in future installments, which I for one CAN'T WAIT FOR!

A great reading recommendation for this Middle Grade Fiction fans this reading season or any for that matter!

When dark forces get a hold of her and her patient, Addison is left with no choice but to take extreme measures to protect the ones she loves. Will Addison be able to acquire the necessary skills fast enough in order to protect her patient, and defeat the evil entities that thrive in the mansion?

Spooked yet?
Trust will be...

When the uber creepy call came in about the job opportunity, it was all I could do not to scream RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY at the top of my lungs.  I mean, HELLO!  Ever seen a scary movie?  Yeah, I have...and those mysterious phone calls NEVER end well...especially when they are so vague in how they found you and the offer sounds too good to be true.  Rule of thumb, it generally is...and again, the best rec I can make is RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY!  Now, obviously, Addison doesn't listen to my silent plea and thus the story continues, but so do the WEIRD and STRANGE coincidences!  I mean, what's with the creepy, slightly off the grid location?  Why do the grounds make one question whether the property was actually abandoned?  What's with the pajama clad neighbor lingering outside and her cryptic comment about her potential new employer?  What's with all the gates and are they to keep something in or out?  Just who was the ringlet haired girl in the artwork that seemed somewhat familiar?  I mean, the list goes on and on...but in the best way possible!

Honestly, I generally have a hard time with ebook because I just love the experience that much more in print, but I wasn't hesitating in the least to turn these epages as fast as a frightened child runs from a monster, or perhaps a more accurate analogy would be as quickly as newly hired home care helper learns a few tricks that she never imagined even existed!  When people ask me for book recommendations, specifically those that really SCARED me...I'm always at a loss.  I've never been THAT scared by/of a book.  My imagination is vivid and creates a "movie" in my mind while reading, but it doesn't allow for the sensory overload that say an ACTUAL movie can provide.  Did this book break that streak?  Nope...but it WAS good, pretty darn good, actually, and a PERFECT addition to my Halloween reading list...and being that it comes in ebook format, it's not too late to check it out yourself as the sun/moon rises on this Halloween day/night.  Just, you know, remember to keep the lights on... 😉

TLC Book Tours presents... EVE 2.0: THE ULTIMATE GAMING EXPERIENCE by Winter Lawrence!

HI guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Now, I know a lot of you out there have hobbies and interests outside of reading (no, I'm not kidding....stop laughing!)...and for a good portion of the population, it's GAMING.  Hold back that scoff because if it isn't you, yourself, then it's probably a friend, sibling, or child in your life, and THAT'S OKAY as there's much to be learned from that virtual world...provided you don't get in too deep like our friends here.  Then again, it DOES have ties to government ops, so go figure, right?  Anywho, I'm gaming, I mean GETTING ahead of myself.  Allow me to help you make the acquaintance of today's book of choice...

Eve 2.0: The Ultimate Gaming Experience
Winter Lawrence
Paperback: 338 pages
Publisher: Melange Books - Fire and Ice YA
Release Date:  August 14, 2019

About the book...
Just when Gwen thought she could beat any video game hands down, her boyfriend goes and gets her stuck in a top-secret government simulator named Eve 2.0. Being trapped within a couple of her favorite video games doesn't seem so bad at first, but as time becomes a factor and the A.I. program begins to get smarter, Gwen soon realizes that winning or losing isn't just about pride anymore; it's about making it out alive.

Okay, let's address the obvious here first...the cover image SCREAMS Lara Croft Tomb Raider along with a dash of Resident Evil...and that's coming from a non-gamer!  You see it too, right?  Yeah...not a bad choice though because it allows those that aren't up to their virtual elbows in gaming lingo, images, or experience to catch of glimpse and think...hmm...I wonder what THAT'S about.  Moving forward...

I admit, I was curious to see just where things would lead when we first started out as I wasn't really buying Gwen's ambivalence towards her several months/years ago EX, nor actually thinking she was serious about this gamer guy across the country, and the random accident that threw them together was a bit awkward for a meet-cute even in YA lit.  I know, it sounds like I didn't enjoy myself, but wait...THERE'S MORE.  Once we move beyond the history building and scene setting, we get to the good stuff...but I have to warn you, if you had an aversion to virtual reality games or worlds before, this one will definitely turn that from hesitation to full blown GET THAT THING AWAY FROM ME!  I mean, when the gear for the mysterious game went on, it was creepy enough with the "instant blindness", but when all the DNA sequencing begins, well...let's just say that it definitely reminded me why I don't put my hands or my head in unknown places.  *ahem*  Admittedly, I was turning pages faster and faster JUST to see if she'd make it out alive, let alone solve the mystery, and save the day!

All in all, I was quite surprised by the depth of the story, the advanced gaming technology (though that part could just be my non-gamer POV), and the levels to which everything escalates.  Gwen may not have started out as my BFF, but by book's end, I would be glad to call her friend because she is hardcore to the floor about saving those she cares for from a self destructive GAME OVER.

About the author...

Winter [Lawrence] lives in the moment and loves nothing more than being surrounded by her family, her fur-babies, and a ton of great reads! When she doesn't have her nose stuck in a book, she's usually thinking up far away, fantastical worlds or she's cooking up a storm in the kitchen! Because of her love for all things literary, Winter pursued a Master of Arts degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. Professionally, she is a manuscript editor and, in her spare time, she enjoys hosting author spotlights, posting book reviews, and teaching workshops. In her private time, she is an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, and paranormal romances, and one day she hopes to inspire young readers in the same way her favorite authors continue to inspire her today. Find out more about Winter at her website and connect with her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
