I gotta say, it's another win for this amazing author, at least in my humble opinion.  She has a knack for writing stirring tales that warm the heart, quicken the pulse, and leave you with the happily-ever-after you crave from a time gone by kept accessible thanks to the well worded passages.  Now, there's something a little different about this one though that begged mentioning...the leads are beyond the usual twenty and four age range.

No, stop it.
Seriously though, THINK ABOUT IT.

Image result for young versus old

How often do you get a tale that stars anyone beyond the twenty something set?  It's almost as if people think love stops after that age, and women simply shrivel up to a prune-ish version of their former selves, never to have their heart beat with passion again.  Yeah, so not that case.  Grant it, I'm not speaking from experience...I'm older than the twenty-something, but not that old...but I am speaking from the viewpoint of a reader that has posed this question before.  Why can't we have stories featuring older characters?  Are their feelings any less warranted?  Are their entanglements any less entangled?  There once was a series that I dearly adored (okay, still do) and there was a particular character that always had their hands in EVERYTHING and was there for EVERYONE, so the natural course of things had me wondering...where was THIS person's story?  The answer to said question from the author was this...no one wants to read a story featuring older characters.   Well, I begged to differ then and I stand by those feelings now.

Image result for heart painting

Lilian and Pietro were filled with FIRE, with PASSION, and shared so much heart that mine was filled to bursting too.  Seeing them get a second chance not only with each other, but at love in general, no matter how unexpected, was wonderful, just as their story was beautiful, and filled with just enough blush worthy scenes to remind you that hey...experience can definitely be sexy.  Recommended read for fans of the author and adult Historical Romance fans...for those same said blush causing scenes.

About the author...

When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.

Silver Dagger Book Tours presents... LOVE'S DECEPTION by D.C. Renee - SPOTLIGHT + GIVEAWAY!

Love's Deception
by DC Renee
Genre: Contemporary Romance

For someone who wasn’t the “dating kind,” he had certainly done a bang-up job of wooing me. Dating, marriage … the whole nine yards. I’d fallen hard. I couldn’t help it. Nolan Corrington was gorgeous, charming, sweet, and he loved me with a passion I’d never felt before. It was inevitable on my end.

He tried to fight his love for me. I was the first girl he ever let in because he’d vowed never to love. He didn’t want the fallout a heartbreak would create. But he said dating me, marrying me, loving me … the whole nine yards was inevitable for him too.

With a love like that, there could be no room for heartbreak, right?

Well, see … that’s the thing about loving someone so hard. You don’t always share everything about yourself, at least not until it’s too late … until the person is so deep inside you that you hope they won’t want to leave. That’s what I like to call love’s deception.

And that’s what Nolan counted on.

What could go wrong? Oh, only everything … only the one thing he feared in the first place … heartbreak. Too bad it wasn’t just a matter of walking away … it was more, a lot more. It was life, death, and everything in between. It was love, and it was deception.

DC Renee is a financial analyst by day, and an indie author by night. She’s been writing since she was a child, from poems to short stories, even fan fictions. She published her first book in March of 2014, and it hit the Amazon top 100 list in Contemporary Romance Fiction several times. Naturally, she loves to read! She also loves spending time with her hubby and their new baby girl, as well as her immediate family (in-laws included!). She speaks Russian fluently, and it might come with the territory, but she loves watching hockey. Go Kings! DC is really thankful for all the support she receives from her family, friends and most of all her readers and fans. She hopes you enjoy her books as much as she enjoys writing them.

Take a dash of historical and a good serving of the forbidden, and you've not only got one heck of a romance, but a fabulous story, such as we have here!

Jane Bailey was in for the surprise of her life in the form of Robert Kendal....as is he of she.  Neither knows the other for who they truly are...or even why they are seeking the other for that matter, but sometimes forced proximity can in fact make the heart grow fonder! Seeing Robert's eyes get opened to the potential love of his life working for the lady of another house, and watching Jane's heart blossom despite her unsure footing in her new surroundings, makes for one heck of a read, and one that I'd gladly turn the pages of again!

A definite recommend for Historical Romance fans who adore a smart leading lady, paired with a dashing leading man, both of whom are trying to lead with their head's in lieu of their hearts, only to discover the riches to be had when a balance is achieved.

Month9Books presents... TRAGEDY OF ME by Rebekah Purdy - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

HI there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, I'm joining Month9Books to celebrate an exciting event indeed!  You see, it's the official BOOK BIRTHDAY of BOOK TWO in the Legend of Me series from author Rebekah Purdy, and seriously guys, all I can say is WHERE IN THE WORLD IS BOOK THREE?!  Aside from the cover reveal last month, this was my first exposure to this fascinating Young Adult series, and while one can start in the middle of the story...if given the chance, why would you?

That's how I found myself reading the first book, Legend of Me...which quite honestly was FANTASTIC!  (Oh, and the ebook of book one is on sale for only $2.99 in the US/CD to celebrate the second book's release!  AMAZON  B&N)  I mean, it has magic and lore, romance and revenge, plus the good old pull of a new-ish approach to a red riding hood and beauty and the beast crossover.  What more could you ask for?  What more INDEED!  Book one checked all my boxes, and had me falling in love with Raul right alongside our leading lady.  It's awfully hard to fight his flirtatious ways, especially when they are obviously guided by a heart that truly adores her...but the course of love never did run smooth, and the bumps in their road, let alone her first love's (dun dun DUNNN!) have more pitfalls to overcome than a New York City street has potholes!  When all is said and done, we're left with what we think will suffice for a happily-ever-after...until...

Tragedy of Me
Legend of Me, Book 2
by
Rebekah Purdy
Month9Books

About the book...
With the Curse of the Beast broken, Brielle Healer thought she’d left her bloody, gruesome past behind her. But when more dead bodies are discovered on her property, everything changes. Lord Kenrick and other Knights of the Crowhurst Order want to know what happened to his missing brother who was last seen with Bri. An encounter with Daedric has Bri wondering if there might be a way to bring him back from wherever it is his spirit slipped into. Any attempts to get Kenrick back however, will mean a trip through a hellish realm more powerful and dangerous than either can handle. But tragedy has a way of showing people what they’re made out of, and Bri’s no exception.

Raul Tinker’s dark past has finally caught up to him. His vengeful sister Yalena wants to destroy everything he loves. Although trained in magic, he’s no match for Yalena’s kind of evil. Yalena promises not to harm Brielle, if Raul agrees to do her bidding. Now, the only way to stop her would be to allow the same darkness that consumes Yalena to consume him as well.It seems like a small price to pay to save Bri. Only time will tell.

The second book in any series tends to be seen as a connecting piece, and often wears this title well.  Not so much here because book two is just as engaging, just as enraging, just as strong of a contender as the first one...just with a lot more times that I wanted to punch Raul in the face for his utter stupidity.  He loves Bri SO MUCH, and yet his dumb male pride, his desire to stand up to the evil forces that are coming, has him making choices that he'd never thought he'd make, with consequences that will echo through BOTH their hearts.

This was was SUCH a TRAGEDY which of course means it fit it's title well, and yet I mean all of that in the BEST way possible!  By book's end, I was SO surprised that while things play out that were meant to play out, there are SO MANY MORE THINGS that need to be resolved, and while we thought we said goodbye to a few characters, they may not be so much GONE as they are currently out of the picture.  Does everything turn out sunshine and roses?  Heck to the NO, but it doesn't mean all is truly lost.  It doesn't mean that what was lost can not be found.  It doesn't mean that a true beacon of light in the utter darkness is automatically forsaken; sometimes it just needs to see its true value, and appreciate its worth, in order to share its gracious beauty, and strength with all that seek its guidance.

Highly recommended series for Young Adult Fantasy fans of all ages.  There is just SO MUCH to love here, if you haven't discovered it on your own at this point, take heed and follow through!

The Cure
by
Patricia Ann Bowen

About the book...
 TWO PEOPLE HARBORING SECRETS...

  A stranger from the future comes to Paige’s cabin in rural Georgia with a treatment for her early onset Alzheimer’s disease. He bargains with the skeptical patient to give her The Cure if she’ll conduct a longitudinal study for him, proving his drug’s efficacy to a future world full of clients that need it. Faced with her dire diagnosis, he might be her only hope. She grapples with the side effects of his offer and learns to suppress her own dangerous truth: trust no one.

  Seldom lucky in love, Paige finds herself competing with her best friend for his attention, knowing there can be no good end for their stolen moments of passion. Can she stay under the radar of the medical and legal communities to carry out his requests? And how will their complicated pasts bring them together physically, emotionally and professionally in a successful, if unethical, partnership?

 Many lives will be changed, but at what cost… and to whom?

~~~ EXCERPT ~~~
Peter Lee has come from 40 years in the future with the cure for Alzheimer’s… not the treatment… The Cure. In exchange, he’s asked Paige Bergeron, a physician’s assistant, to take the cure for her own early-onset disease in consideration for doing a longitudinal study for him. She’s to recruit patients, administer the cure, and report to him in MedCloud any side effects and other issues that will give him immediate feedback, instead of having to wait for them in his own time frame. This scene is where she makes the decision to accept his offer of the cure.
Day 2
Chapter Five
They agreed to meet at 6:30 this morning, before Paige’s shift, in the chapel of the hospital where she works. Peter had two backup candidates in case she turned down his offer, not as good but good enough, and he couldn’t take a chance on her spreading the word about him and his mission if she did. Secrecy was paramount. He had permission to remove her if he had to, but it would cost him precious time to start the revelations again with someone new, in a different town on his list.
He arrived at the hospital ten minutes early. The man at the information desk directed him to the chapel. It was quiet. Paige was already there, alone, standing in the small half-lit room, dressed in her work uniform: a light blue cotton tunic and loose matching trousers. She looked very small.
“I hope I didn’t keep you waiting.”
“No, I just got here. All I had to do was walk down the hall.” She smiled, put out her hand, and he took it in his.
Good sign, he thought.
“I’ll come right to the point, Peter. Setting aside the extraordinary nature of your story, which is nearly impossible for me to do, I want to be rid of this awful disease. I see no alternative but to accept your offer, to take your cure. That’s selfish, I know, and I admit it.”
She let go of his hand, sat down, and looked up at him. “What I’ve also thought long and hard about since we parted company is what you want me to do in exchange. I can’t in good conscience deliver an unproven treatment to others until I prove the results to myself.”
“Don’t be foolish. I have so little time to work with you. I told you there’s a bigger picture here. You save your own brain from rotting away in exchange for contributing to medical research. I won’t, I can’t give you The Cure without your full agreement. Consider it the price to pay for your life.”
He saw her eyes open wide at his candid outburst, so he took another tack. “You’re very brave, and you’re going to make a difference in the lives of many people, an opportunity few are able to realize. Are you a religious person? Would you like me to pray with you here in the chapel?”
“Oh, no, I’m far from religious. I just chose for us to meet here because it’s private and quiet. No.”
 “All right. What can I do to convince you The Cure is safe and totally beneficial?”
“At least give me time to see the results for myself. I know it’s not an acceptable medical trial, but how else can I believe your story?”
“I told you, I have only three weeks left here. If we start your treatment today, I can’t predict how long it will take to observe visible improvement in your brain. Days, maybe weeks. I don’t have that kind of time.”
“Then perhaps we should just call it off. Maybe you can raid some other doctor’s files and get yourself a new candidate. One who’s more desperate and… more compliant.”
“Listen Paige, I understand your ethical concerns, so here’s my Plan B. I’ll meet you half way. Work with me up to the point of administering The Cure to others. Go along with me on all the steps in my plan as though you have proof of safety and efficacy. If you aren’t convinced by the time your four-day treatment is complete you stop there, you’re cured, with no obligation to cure others.”
“You make me sound pretty ungrateful when you put it that way.”
“How else can I put it? You’ve given me an ultimatum, and I’m giving you a choice. What will it be?”
 “I’m scared to go forward on this path with someone I don’t know anything about, someone who has the most bizarre story I’ve ever heard in my life. But I’ve told myself it’s no more frightening than a diagnosis of losing my mind. So okay, I’ll go along with your Plan B. If you can prove I’m cured, I’ll work with you. Now what?”
 “Our next step is to administer The Cure to you, right now if possible. I have the drug here, in my backpack. I’ve customized the dosage to your size and body type, and I’d like to fit the patch on you immediately. Do you have a private office where we can do that?”
“Sort of. Private enough. I share one with Aaron, another PA. Our shifts overlap but his doesn’t start until eleven.”
“That’ll work. It will take only fifteen minutes or so.”
“Will I be able to work my regular shift today? I’m due on at seven. Or shall I tell my team I need some more time off?”
“No, that won’t be necessary. You needn’t change your routine in any way, except for daily monitoring. And I want us to do that together, really for two important reasons. First, I need to know that the dosage you’re getting is being properly absorbed by your body. Second, if you do finally choose to come on board and join the study, you’ll be administering future doses to others, so you can consider it part of your training as well as your treatment.”
They shared an awkward few moments. Both of them realized they were now cohorts, but traveling separate roads with no return. They went to Paige’s office on the fourth floor and locked the door.
