PRE BOOK BIRTHDAY BUZZ: Don't Drink the Pink by B.C.R. Fegan

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're drumming up the PRE BOOK BIRTHDAY BUZZ for a NEW Children's Picture Book COMING SOON via TaleBlade Press!  It's from an author whose works I've sampled before, and they never fail to entertain, educate, and amaze.  Seriously!  The illustrations are always gorgeous, the story is generally filled with fun and humor, and the parting message is gifted with a smile.  The book on deck today does not stray from the "pack" and that, my friends, is a very good thing.  Ready or not, here comes today's book of choice...

About the book...
Madeline adores her Grandpa Gilderberry – she always has. To everyone else he might seem a bit strange – an eccentric inventor – perhaps even a little mad. Yet Madeline knows that these are his very best qualities.

One of Grandpa Gilderberry’s most secret inventions is his box of potions which he delights in giving to Madeline each year on her birthday. Each potion conveys an unexpected and magical experience for Madeline. Year after year, Madeline selects a new potion with exciting results, however each time she reaches for her enchanted birthday present, her grandfather reminds her of only one rule – ‘don’t drink the pink’.

Exploring the special relationship between a grandfather and his grandchild, the potions in Don’t Drink the Pink provide an apt metaphor for each magical moment. Yet with birthdays comes aging and this tale doesn’t shy away from what this means for both the young girl and her loveable grandpa.

As I said, I've read this author's work previously, and have yet to be disappointed, so I knew when I saw the review request come through, it was one to get on the calendar.  What I didn't count on though was the emotional turn of events!  Be warned...bring tissues!

I selected this one to read to my mom while she was waiting to be taken into surgery (outpatient ear surgery...nothing major, but nerve wracking nonetheless). It seemed the perfect match for the reading situation...short on time, in need of a distraction, superbly gorgeous illustrations...I mean it was a triple threat!  So, I began to read aloud and we laughed, smiled, and awed through a rainbow of fun...all leading up to the inevitable drink of pink...and man I was not expecting that little twist and can I just say, it's HARD to conceal tears!  I mean don't get me wrong, it's WONDERFUL, SWEET, and MEMORABLE in the BEST possible ways, but that pink will do a number on you...yet at the same time it reminds us that those that are not able to be with us, whatever the reason might be, are always in our hearts.

About the book...
Master Jet has forgotten to complete his homework… or has he? Jet’s teacher is surprised to find that instead of the alphabet, his page is completely blank. Jet tries to explain that it really isn’t his fault. After all, how can he help it, if none of his letters want to stay on the page!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This delightful story stars little Jet.  He was suppose to write his alphabet, but the darndest thing happened when he tried...the A RAN AWAY!  Well, when B found out, what do you suppose they did?  Yep, followed in A's footsteps, and so we continue the conga line of runaway letters straight through to Z...much to chagrin of our pupil and the slight amusement of our teacher.  It's quite literally a waterfall of letters making their way over seas, across parks, even hiding out after dark, because try as little Jet might, he just couldn't seem to corral them onto his page!  Good thing teacher happens to know a little trick to get these tricky letters to stick where they should...
As with my reads of the author's past works, I was delighted to see how the somewhat simple task of learning the alphabet was taken to a new level not only to show the importance of learning our ABC's, but also that of completing something you were tasked (or suffer the consequences because little Jet's pencil is gonna get a workout!).  With every turn of the page, we're greeted with another letter, fleeing in some direction other than Jet's notebook paper, in brightly colored hues, complete with little attitudes.  My favorite?  Oh, that's a tough one...I suppose I have to say one of them had to be the letter R.  Her sense of style was above the book, or so she said, and honestly it showed in her outfit and facial expression so well!
A great read for the kiddos just learning their ABCs as well as a classroom story time selection...provided you can get the letters to stay!
Don't Ever Look Behind Door 32 by B.C.R. Fegan
Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Mr Nicholas Noo - Door 32
Today, we're shining the spotlight a NEWLY RELEASED title via TaleBlade Press.  It features the work of an author we've come to love as he brings us tales of grump faces, hidden treasures, and itches you just can't scratch.  They may be aimed at the kiddos (and with the glorious illustrations that adorn each page, you can't really blame them for their interest), but there's fun for all ages between these pages, whether "e" or "tree".  This time around, we're learning just HOW IMPORTANT it is to LISTEN...because one wrong doorknob turn and you never know what might happen (even some unexpected edutainment)!  Ready or not, here comes today's book of choice....
About the book...
The magical Hotel of Hoo is a mysterious place with some very unusual occupants. As our guests explore the strange hotel, they are invited to experience everything it has to offer with just one warning… don’t ever look behind door 32.
This imaginative picture book aims to take children beyond the first ten cardinal numbers, and introduces them to the patterns of counting in a fun and accessible way. With rooms to explore and unique objects to count, children will enjoy lingering on each page as they make their way closer to the forbidden door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Brother - Don't Ever Look Behind Door 32 The Sister - Don't Ever Look Behind Door 32

We begin at the beginning with a welcome from Mr. Nicholas Noo, himself (pictured at the top of this post), and quite a gracious host he is.  He's opening the Hotel of Ho to guests for the VERY FIRST time, and Olivia and Jack will be staying in the aptly chosen room number 1...with a much repeated warning to NEVER look behind door 32.  Strange and odd that's true, but the current resident list of Hoo doesn't give them long to question what they're being told to do.  I mean, how do you ignore the room of grumpy clowns, dancing zombies, grey-haired villains, or the LIBRARY THAT LOOKS UTTERLY AMAZING!?!  Exactly...I know I couldn't...but then again, what's with room 32?

It's a mystery that receives an answer, but not until the rest of this numerically enhanced tale is explored.  With page after page of wonderful illustrations to delight the eye and capture your heart, if not for the constant reminder, one might forget that your ultimate goal is room 32.  The author did a great job combining a fun story with seek and find fun, while  incorporating the edutainment factors along the way.  The kiddos will never know what hit them.  ^-^

The FIRST Post of BOOKMAS!

Season's greetings...
...and welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers!

So, today marks the first post of BOOKMAS.
What IS Bookmas, you ask?
Great question!

Bookmas is similar to Christmas, except it brings tidings of great reads, holiday gifting suggestions, and just about all the bookish fun you can imagine from across the genre spectrum.  It's all in one place at one time (sorta) and ready to help you get out from under the yuletide stress, and get back to enjoying the season...one page at a time.

Just why is it the "Twelve Posts" and not the twelve books?  Simple...I have WAY TOO MANY titles for you to consider, peruse, and read all about to limit it to twelve titles.  These posts are intended to highlight some great titles, give you ideas for your gifting this year, and help me clear up my "read-it-but-need-to-review-it" teetering stack.  Triple focus...yes siree!  So, ready or not, let's get this sled on the road as we unwrap today's featured titles....

Just the ticket to get me in the mood for the magical wintry season ahead with an ADORABLE duo that had me dying of cuteness.  Seriously!  Just LOOK at that cover!  Hoot is the wise older brother, Peep is the kid sister, and in this adventure they learn about the beauty and wonder of snow...while uncovering a song fit for its splendor.  It will have little ones in awe as they join Peep in discovering just what sounds fit its majesty.  It will have older readers entranced by the beauty of the illustrations as well as the simplicity of this charming story reminding us to slow down and enjoy the season for all its worth.

Ronaldo the Flying Reindeer, Book 2
by

Another high flying adventure with Ronaldo and friends, both old AND new, that reminds us of the importance of friendship, helping one another, and how sweet success can be when we give of ourselves. With a charming cast of characters, laugh inducing antics, and a snowfall of good intent, it's no wonder that this series is gathering quite the following.  If you haven't sampled this author's work, I highly suggest you do.  It's sugar and sweet but with a dose of reality that readers can take right off the page and into their daily lives.  All I can say is, well done, Ronaldo...well done indeed!

Titch wants to be your best friend...or rather the best friend of the family he lives with...but, let's just say that they are less than grateful for his presence.  After all, Titch IS an itch, and not the easiest of ones to get rid of.  This is a surprising story filled with humor, creativity, an adorable itch that refuses to go away, and a message of acceptance...but I can't say that I'm gonna be welcoming any long-term itches into my own life anytime soon.  *snicker*

BOOK BIRTHDAY: Henry and the Hidden Treasure by B.C.R. Fegan

HI there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're celebrating the BOOK BIRTHDAY of author B.C.R. Fegan's latest Picture Book release via TaleBlade Press.  It's wonderful adventure filled tale that reminds us what the true treasures in life are...in a VERY amusing way.  Without further ado, I give you, today's book of choice...

by

TaleBlade Press

About the book...
Henry and the Hidden Treasure is an imaginative adventure a young child has in defending his pocket money against his little sister. Henry constructs elaborate defensive measures that he is sure will stand up to the clever ambitions of Lucy. Little does he know, Lucy has a few tricks of her own.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I was saying, this is a wonderfully fun, exciting, and gorgeous picture book for the whole family! It celebrates "treasure" in all its forms while providing a feast for the eyes with every turn or flick of the page, while actively engaging the imagination. I mean,  the ingenuity used to create the obstacles placed in the path of his treasure were astonishing.  Though I didn't have a favorite method, I did love the sheer overkill in the quantity of measures used  I mean there's no such thing as TOO SAFE, right?  In this case, there may be no way of actually reaching the "too" mark because those that are seeking Henry's loot are pretty sneaky, pretty crafty, and downright adorable...and just because HE doesn't want to hear that, since we're supposed to be helping him through the pages, it doesn't make it any less true.
In the end, it was a marvelous story filled with laughter and adventure in the making, as well as beautiful artwork to capture the eye and ensnare the mind.  It's a great way to remind siblings that not all the explorations of their younger/older counterparts are filled with ill intent...and that at times, they can be the cutest things, EVER!
