If you're a fan of author Catherine Tinley, this series is one you've been following already. If you haven't made her acquaintance, and you're a fan of Historical Romance, then it's high time you did! 

The Lennox sisters were introduced in Miss Rose and the Vexing Viscount ( link to my review), where we made their acquaintance, and got to know the bookworm of the family as she sought to solve the mystery of their parents, and discovered love.  The second installment, Miss Isobel and the Prince, gets us closer to Isobel, the middle sister, and while the mystery mentioned is still being pursued (without much forward motion), love is still showing up in unexpected places...and people (another review to check out). Now, we're finally getting to know the last of the trio, Miss Rose, and getting some answers at last! From recovered memories to childhood connections long felt imagined but now brought vividly to life, riddles solved at length and family ties revealed that were not foreseen, there is so much going on that one could almost miss what's right in front of you... true love. No, not the contrived kind some of the ton felt for their intended in order to make a good match, but the kind that burns bright and settles deep because it's as big a part of us as our need for air. By book's end, all the elements come together to create the perfect masterpiece to close out the trilogy, while giving readers exactly what we were waiting for...a happy and complete ending. 

All in all, a great pick for genre fans, and a wonderful addition to the author's body of works. I can't wait to see what's next on her writing horizon... although having just read her infrequent, but enjoyable newsletter, I've got a little inside peek at exactly that!

Call me a sucker for a good Historical Romance because yeah, I totally am...but, if you add in a few other DELICIOUS ingredients like a tempting story, a series/trilogy that explores a family of siblings WITH a connecting story (and still more to come!), and the writing talents of an author whose work I've come to know and adore, I'll gladly wear the candy colored wrapper to boot!

Author Catherine Tinley introduced us to the Lennox sisters in Miss Rose and the Vexing Viscount (also a fabulous story, if I do say so myself, and I do, so if you want/need a refresher, here's a link to my review), where we made their acquaintance, and got to know the bookworm of the family as she sought to solve the mystery of their parents, and discovered love.  Here, we meet Isobel, the middle sister, and while the mystery mentioned is still being pursued (sadly without much forward motion), love is still showing up in unexpected places...and people.  *ahem*  Let's just say Izzy's introduction to the titled Prince is less than meet cute, than it is meet probably-not-gonna-remember-this-in-the-morning.  Oh Prince Claudio...if only a title was enough to excuse your behavior then or later on, but when push comes to shove (and there is PLENTY of both!), for all the bravado these two provide, they are meant to be...it just takes a little while to get there. 🤣

All in all, a great addition to the series that gives readers just enough to keep you going, but leaves you eagerly anticipating the final sister's story with high hopes for her happiness as well as the revelations we just know are waiting in regards to their parentage.

Getting to know the Lennox sisters was a treat!  They may look alike, but the plethora of similarities ends with their exteriors.  While the promised novels to come will give us the remaining two sisters'stories, we still get to know them all a wee bit, while the majority of the tale focuses on the youngest Belle...Rose.

I think Rose was the easiest to identify with for me, truth be told, though all three sisters were rather lovely inside and out. She was bookish, preferred to listen then form opinions, showed kindness where kindness was due, would help a soul in need even if it was four-legged and furry, and worried so much about her affect on others that she would do something that would break her own heart...but I'm not the only one she impressed.  Their host's nephew, James, a Viscount no less, seems rather taken with this particular sister for reasons he can't fully explain, yet makes perfect sense when everything is said and done.  It was a joy watching them slowly fall under the other's spell, though neither realized one was cast.  It was sweet, it was natural, it was everything for them both, and yet the ton would try to keep them apart.  Nice way to treat those that mean you no harm, right?  Right, and while saving your own skin may be the fashionable option, sometimes throwing prudence to the wind is truly all that's left to do.

A great start to a promising series, and a book that I'd highly recommend.  The story is intriguing, the characters near and dear to my heart, and the whole thing was just so much fun!  It's a wonderful addition to this author's body of works, and speaks volumes of her writing talent.  Historical Romance readers, do not pass this one up!

Oh woah is me! 

When I first started this review, I had actually just finished reading yet another (STAY TUNED!) Historical Romance and, quite frankly, was getting my thoughts jumbled! 😂 Oye, such are the troubles for avid readers, but I digress...

This story was unique. Full stop. No, really. It's the first time that I've read a book that, while possibly part of a mini series, or at least a loose duology, delves into a story that is not just familiar, but will give you a massive case of deja vu. I don't mean that in a bad way, just an unexpected way. Have you ever wanted to know about two side characters and the lives they carry on whilst reading a story about two other characters? THIS is your chance. You're thrown back into the situations and storyline from the preceding book (which, of course, makes this a great standalone read as well!), yet are viewing them through another set of eyes. Familiar, yet fascinating, and then halfway through the story, we move forward...

At this point, I was already fully invested, but very much ready to see how Max and Eilidh might carry on, once she was back on her home turf. I mean, Max had some rude awakenings coming, and certainly some enlightening revelations as well, but he needed to remember...he was not his brother, and there's always room for love. Pretty sure Eilidh was just the woman to show him those truths because you'd certainly need to be just as strong willed (stubborn, unrelenting... all said with kindness!) as this English gent to get through all the self loathing, and self doubt, to claim the heart of gold underneath it all. 

A great pick for Historical Romance fans penned by an author that knows her craft!

Random note, this is the second story I've read recently that has taken place in or around Scotland. A new trend for me? Eh, the jury is out on THAT matter...not a fan of the kilts, nor my favorite accent (*giggle*)...but I will say that I agree with Ms. Gray from the agency, they definitely know how to raise their men! This was a story that could have taken a wrong turn very easily as the author made our fair leading lady a bit more fair than usual, which is where most of her struggles stemmed from. However, the humbleness she built into her character, the integrity she had, the awareness of this personal trait and yet desire to not be known by that in the slightest, all went MILES in making me like her all the more for her heart, her determination, her ability to understand others, and her willingness to get her hands dirty (so to speak). THAT'S what made Lydia truly remarkable, and in the end, all of those attributes and more are what reawaken the dormant and distrusting heart of our Scottish laird. Speaking of him...

Alasdair was what I'd call an acquired taste. When we first met, I wanted to throttle him. Seriously, I wanted to shrink his highland best in the sun, and leave it as the only possible option for him to wear simply to annoy him. For someone that prided themselves on being benevolent, and caring for those in his care, he sure had an ICE BLOCK on his shoulder in regards to our Sassenach. Given his history, we get it...eventually...but SHE didn't know anything about all that and to hold it against her simply because of her background, her heritage? Yeah, definitely not on the upside of things. Time, and circumstances start to bring him around to a new way of thinking, but what really helps turn the tide is her actions, her growth, and...his daughter!

Although a Historical Romance it may be, that doesn't mean love doesn't flourish in other relationships as well...from his darling, high spirited daughter (LOVED HER!) to the other souls in his care among the younger generation. There is an ingrained spirit of everyone belonging, everyone having a place and receiving the respect they deserve. It was wonderful to witness...even when Lydia was on the outside looking in...and heartwarming when the circle expanded to eventually include her.

All in all, it's a story you won't want to miss from an author who knows how to wield her craft. Historical Romance fans, take note!

From the start, Cecily had my heart. She was warm, and kind, but also smart and resilient! She was there for her newly wed friend and supportive despite her groom's own blood not being so. She was basically accosted by them, in fact, and managed to maintain her dignity, let loose a few choice words, and leave with her head held high. Was it the thing to do at the time? Perhaps not with the ton, but no one could (nor did) blame her for her reaction, as the man was beyond rude! The man in question...the Earl of Hawkenden, aka Jack.

Jack has issues that are buried deep and ignored completely, so his well constructed life centered on rebuilding his family's name alongside his brother Tom, suited him perfectly. Leave it to Tom to throw a monkey wrench into the works with a surprise marriage, and claims of love being the reason for his "folly". THAT is one four letter word that the Earl is not as well acquainted with any longer. His father aimed to squash it out of their lives at every turn. His mother tried her best to keep it alive, until she herself was not. His hard lessons continued throughout his life, and yet they helped make him the focused man he is today...or rather was...because a certain young woman has stolen into his thoughts, sneaked under his guard, and even unbeknownst to her, made herself a space in his heart...that he thoroughly refuses to acknowledge! And how long do you think that can last?

In the end, their journey from mistaken identity to housemates to something hard to verbalize, but felt strongly nonetheless is remarkable, enjoyable, and not to be missed. As I said, it's a demure story, so if steamy scenes make your face burn red, fear not...we're more in the land of stolen kisses than stolen virtue...but it is unforgettable just the same!  Trust me, if you're a fan of Historical Romance, this is just the book for you.

I'm afraid I lost something when I started this one.

What was it?

My heart...

This was a darling read filled with characters to remember, circumstances better forgotten, and an ever after you won't soon forget.  If you don't fall in love with Mary, I couldn't possibly fathom what the devil is wrong with you because she is so good of heart, so well meaning, so...everything....it's a wonder Sir Nicholas doesn't fall at her feet and declare his love the moment he lays eyes upon her.  Okay, I get it...it wasn't what was "done" at that time for a lady, but nevertheless, she persevered, reached for those seemingly unattainable goals, stood on her own two feet, and only utilized the kindness of strangers when absolutely necessary.  I applauded her "outburst" at the school for lady's.  I pumped my fist in earnest when she spoke out at the dinner table.  My heart burst with pride when she helped pull Beatrice out of her shell a bit by having her be understood and heard.  She even told a certain Baronet what's what...and lived to tell the tale...and what's more, become a guest of the household...but those circumstances are for you to discover.  Now, back to the story...

Sir Nicholas wasn't hard on the heart either.  Despite his "above thee" attitude, you can sense beneath it all beats a heart most uncommon for the age AND his gender.  He appreciates the finer things in life...and that includes a certain Governess that has darkened his door, and not merely for her beauty!  No, he is appreciative of her mind, of her opinions, of the fact that she will call him out, but only because she knows he can be better.  It's a shock to his system to even entertain the thought of anything with her...and yet...there comes a time that the heart must be listened to, come what may.

If you're not simply there for the romance of it all though, there is also the plot gathering traitors, secret messages, and prisoners who may or may not be guilty that Mary is downright dedicated to having freed.  I mean, HELLO....did I mention this story has SO MUCH going for it?  Indeed!  So, if you haven't deduced by now, I rather adored my time between the pages, and quite rightly believe that you too will feel the same.
