RRR presents... THIS IS US by Helen McGinn - REVIEW!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're setting our sights on a title from an author's whose work I've read before, and featured right here on my site. The stories thus far have been know to take life as we know it, give it a bit of emotional twist, a new way to look at things, and eventually, despite the troubles, come out all right in the end. This release is no exception and fits right in with the rest. Ladies and gents, today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...

This is Us
by
Helen McGinn

About the book...
A story about friends, sisters, motherhood and starting again – one day at a time...

Stella fell in love with Simon hard and fast. He was everything she wanted in a husband, and he seemed to feel the same way about her. More than a decade of marriage later, life is sweet. They have three much-wanted children, a successful business, and a comfortable London home. What more could Stella possibly want?

But then, out of the blue, Simon is gone. Vanished. No one knows where he’s gone or why.

Now Stella, with the help of her friends and family, has to pick up the pieces of her and her children’s life, all the while wondering what she missed. Was her husband who he said he was, and can she trust her own memories of their life together?

Helen McGinn’s latest novel is a love story to friendship, sisters, motherhood and starting again – one day at a time. Perfect for fans of Elizabeth Noble, Cathy Kelly and JoJo Moyes.

This was a curious one, to say the least, but it just goes to show you how we really only know so much about a person...even those we love.  For all intents and purposes, Simon and Stella were it.  The perfect match for one another, three kids, a business, lovely home, and all the trappings of a wonderful life...until one day, it wasn't.  Until one day, the simple notice of a detail that was just a hair off, served as a catalyst for a separation that would end up revealing more than scandal, love lost, or advantages taken...but the truth within their hearts, and for one of them, it's not something they are prepared to face.

I was livid with Simon from the word GO.  HOW could he do that to Stella and their children?  Just up and leave?  NO explanation, no words shared, no deviation from their seemingly great life until THAT MOMENT.  I was livid.  Stella...well, she was understandably confused, lost for a bit, and yet when push came to shove, the strongest version of herself possible.  She knew that she had to be there for her kids.  She knew that just because their dad up and POOFED, she needed to take care of business...both the actual business, and her family.  The kids were perceptive...honestly not that surprisingly so...and while they didn't know just what was going on, they could see the differences, notice the absence, but loved their mom so much that they tried to do the best they could as well to make the days run smooth.  It wasn't until she dug deep...REALLY deep...that she started to find answers, and while they weren't necessarily the ones she had hoped for, they left her with a sense of peace rather than in pieces.  From there, she could build again...something stronger, brighter, and more formidable than what once was, and for that alone, you can't help but root for the woman she is.

We may never truly know what's in another's heart, but it shouldn't make us any less willing to take a chance.  You never know when you'll stumble upon the one, or the right moment, or the big idea, but if we live in fear, if we constantly second guess...is it truly living?  Stella had some regrets, but none more so than the fact that Simon wouldn't live up to be the dad their kids deserved....but even that, given time, was less an open wound than something of a stepping stone towards a brighter future.
