PRE BOOK BIRTHDAY BUZZ: One Summer in Paris by Sarah Morgan

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're spreading the PRE BOOK BIRTHDAY BUZZ about a NEW TITLE coming this Tuesday via HQN Books!  It's the latest release from author Sarah Morgan, and if you haven't already sampled her work, I highly suggest you do (a good starting point would be her Manhattan series...SO GOOD!)!  This time around it's a Contemporary Romance/Women's Fiction title that explores friendship, love, and life as one character is beginning her journey and another is starting anew.  I can't tell you how perfect this book was for me when it arrived, but I will...in just a moment...first, the intro!  Today's title in the spotlight and book of choice is...

About the book...
To celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, Grace has planned the surprise of a lifetime for her husband--a romantic getaway to Paris. But she never expected he'd have a surprise of his own: he wants a divorce. Reeling from the shock but refusing to be broken, a devastated Grace makes the bold decision to go to Paris alone.  Audrey, a young woman from London, has left behind a heartache of her own when she arrives in Paris. A job in a bookshop is her ticket to freedom, but with no money and no knowledge of the French language, suddenly a summer spent wandering the cobbled streets alone seems much more likely...until she meets Grace, and everything changes.  Grace can't believe how daring Audrey is. Audrey can't believe how cautious newly single Grace is. Living in neighboring apartments above the bookshop, this unlikely pair offer each other just what they've both been missing. They came to Paris to find themselves, but finding this unbreakable friendship might be the best thing that's ever happened to them...

So, once upon a time, there was a girl.  Life was going along swimmingly...okay, so it had its ups and downs, but for the most part it was above the bar...until one day an evil presence swept her known world away leaving her "kingdom" in ruins, and a whole in her heart.  The evil passed as most evil does, but the whole in both her life and self remained.  Try as she might, she couldn't find anything to fill that missing piece...until the day she was able to pick up a book once again.  The escape they offered into worlds beyond her imagination, outside the new boundaries of her front door, were a welcome relief, and while it didn't replace everything lost...it started the healing process on a simple part of her soul and meant the world to the girl.

That girl was/is me...and while we're still rebuilding so many months after the storm, truthfully...things haven't gotten all that much easier.  People outside of the stricken area move on, forget, and have other worries/issues crop up that are more pressing in their lives...but for those of us "left behind", it's a struggle, and anything that helps give some sort of normalcy to this crazy new world we're traversing is a welcome blessing.  The reconnection with reading was/is my escape, and when I received an email from Anna that this book was winging its way to me, I couldn't have been happier.  The author is one I've read many works by...the last being The Christmas Sisters (such a good read!)...and who's writing always managed to pull me right into the story, allowing me to get lost in someone else's troubles, relish someone else's triumphs, and go starry-eyed over the love someone else had discovered.  This release was no different.

While Grace and Audrey are separate in many ways...age, life stage, experience, and whatnot...they are close at heart, reminding us that friendship is not restricted to those in our own generation.  There is much to be learned from those older AND younger (as they both discover), much room to grow no matter your current age, and so much potential for things to still come out all right in the end.  What happened to both Grace and Audrey was not ideal in any fashion, and yet somehow they not only found each other, but themselves along their crooked paths towards their unknown futures.  The high hopes they initially held were thwarted time and again, but they never gave up...not truly...and in trudging through it, they were better for it in the end.

Honestly, I loved the progress/growth both characters showed along their journey, the connection they made with each other as well as those they met, the times and experiences they shared, the bookstore that gave them more than wordy wonders but a piece of themselves they didn't even realize they were missing.  It truly enchanted me, heart and soul.  I will admit, I was worried for a bit for both our leading ladies.  Grace had such a kicker of a moment coming up at book's end, I really couldn't fathom it going one way, hoped it went another, and yet how it ended up was a beautiful blend of give and take that really worked.  Audrey had my heart in a bind as well because she was finally showing her true colors and despite her can-do attitude, walls kept being thrown up in her face.  Even the sweetness she found in the city was causing her heartache, and yet the author makes it work in her favor while still giving us a satisfying end.

All in all, it was wonderful, magical, realistic, and even at times infuriating, but I adored every moment!  Whether I was swooning, having a bookish moment, nodding in agreement, or gasping at a turn of events, it's a definite MUST READ this Spring/Summer and one I highly suggest making room on your wish list for!

Cyan
by Lashanta Charles

Ve·tur
/vetr/ /vɛːtʏr/ /veːtʊr/
Faroese, Icelandic, Old Norse
noun meaning winter
on the outskirts of Sault Ste. Marie, lives the most powerful Vetur wielder”

~Cyan~

Groomed to be pure perfection in the eyes of a never-satisfied mother, Cyan struggled to find her place within her clan. She knew her responsibility to them, but she had yet to deliver. She was supposed to be theVetur and yet, she wasn’t. They accepted her, failure and all, they still loved her. But love and acceptance are futile in the eyes of time. And time is something she can’t take for granted because soon, it will run out.
Refusing to tempt fate, and for their own selfish gain, those closest to Cyan betrayed her in the worst way possible. Secrets. Lies. Absolute deception. She didn’t break though. She snapped.
And when she snapped, time no longer mattered because she would end them all.

Movement flashed and they were there before me. The three strangers. I hadn’t thought it was possible for them to look even more menacing, and yet they did. Backs straight, no longer slouched carelessly, and bulging muscles poised to either attack or defend, they were a sight to behold. But their leader; the one front and center, three steps ahead of the two flanking him? He was glorious. His dark hair grazed his wide shoulders. Honey brown eyes glared at me, his lips stretched into a thin line. Black clothing head to toe, made a valiant attempt at concealing his powerfully built physique. Hands as big as dinner plates remained loose, palms open and facing me, at his sides. Loose and empty. He’d chosen to face me without a weapon, but his entire aura radiated danger. How he managed to simultaneously seem relaxed and alert was beyond me, but Vetur recognized the true peril in the room. It wasn’t The Queen. It wasn’t the warriors at my back. It wasn’t even the formidable duo flanking him. It was him alone. My power urged me to confront him. Fight him. Make him conquer us. One corner of his mouth ticked up into a smirk and the movement drew my eyes. When I realized he’d been watching me analyze him my eyes narrowed in irritation.
“Little fox,” his baritone flowed across to me like a warm palm caressing my face and I barely suppressed a full-bodied quiver. “I’d like the opportunity to take that challenge.” He finished with a dip of his head and a slight bow, never taking his eyes off me. Those eyes. That body. His voice. Every aspect of him tugged at me and I fought to resist it. Fought to remember the challenge I’d issued to The Queen to kill me. Did he think he could take me?
My eyebrow rose in question as I realized the ice within a three feet radius of him and his men had begun to melt. Drawing back up to his full height, he took a few steps toward me. Also, had he just called me a fox?
Accepted.”
“Not accepted! You will keep your distance from my heir, Valen! Cyan, you will stop this foolishness and do as you’ve been told,” The Queen shouted just as Kormen spoke up.
            “Cy you cannot do this!”
Calm that I hadn’t even noticed settle over me receded in an instant, giving way to a seething rage at their interruption. I needed to speak with this beautiful stranger.  Needed every single interaction he gave and they wanted to prevent that. Celeste continued to spew threats, not even realizing the monster she’d unleashed. Pulling one of my knives back into myself, I flicked a free hand in Kormen’s direction, burying him in an avalanche of snow. I’d deal with his betrayal later. Eyes narrowed to slits, I focused on the woman who birthed me. The bane of my existence. “You went too far this time, mother. If you want me to stop this then you’ll have to kill me.”
Her eye twitched. The only indication that my words had a negative effect on her, but I ignored it. My second knife materialized in my palm again and with little thought, I sent them both sailing through the air with her as my intended target. Valen, who seemingly read my mind, moved barely a moment later. Jumping, he plucked both knives from the air. His hands sizzled as the ice melted in them. Son of a . . .
“Let the record show that I vehemently object to that whole killing you suggestion,” he stated, his voice still calm and collected.

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... SMOKE AND KEY by Kelsey Sutton!

Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're throwing a BOOK BIRTHDAY PAR-TAY for a NEW Young Adult release IN STORES NOW via Entangled Teen!  It's sub cat falls under Fantasy, Romance, Historical, and a few others, but while that might sound confusing, the story itself is A-MA-ZING!  No, really.  I read this one back in February and OMG...I'm still reeling from it.  My excitement has not lessened over time, nor my desire to own a physical copy of which I would promptly read all over again.  Think I'm mad?  Think I've lost it?  Think I'm all alone in my adoration of this book?  THINK AGAIN...because shortly, you'll be joining me.  Uh-huh.  Just you wait...and while you're waiting, let's dig a little more into my time between the pages...

by
Kelsey Sutton
Entangled Teen

About the book...
A sound awakens her. There's darkness all around. And then she's falling...

She has no idea who or where she is. Or why she's dead. The only clue to her identity hangs around her neck: a single rusted key. This is how she and the others receive their names—from whatever belongings they had when they fell out of their graves. Under is a place of dirt and secrets, and Key is determined to discover the truth of her past in order to escape it.

She needs help, but who can she trust? Ribbon seems content in Under, uninterested in finding answers. Doll’s silence hints at deep sorrow, which could be why she doesn't utter a word. There's Smoke, the boy with a fierceness that rivals even the living. And Journal, who stays apart from everyone else. Key's instincts tell her there is something remarkable about each of them, even if she can't remember why.

Then the murders start; bodies that are burnt to a crisp. After being burned, the dead stay dead. Key is running out of time to discover who she was—and what secret someone is willing to kill to keep hidden—before she becomes the next victim…

Once upon a time, there was a girl with a key.  She was rudely awakened by someone from her slumber...in a tiny box...with seemingly no way out...until it all simply fell away.  No really, she actually FELL further below to who knows where with who knows who to do who knows what for all time.  Curious?  Yeah, well imagine that being only the TIP of the proverbial iceberg  because there is oh so much more!

From the moment Key lands in Under and is taken under the wing of several friendly "locals", you can't help but start your puzzler puzzling.  I mean, the questions rolling around in my heard were NONSTOP!  I was hurling accusations at new faces that struck me as somehow wrong, holding suspicions for several folks (several of which turned out to be achingly accurate!) that seriously raised my creep-o-meter to WARNING levels, and majorly feeling the heart stopping sizzles zinging left and right...and yet wondering what could it all mean?  What was the greater purpose of it all?  Why were they there?  What had they done?  Who wanted those whose lives already ended...even more dead -- if that was somehow possible?!?  As it turns out, the greater WHY is answered in a BIG way, but not before dragging us deeper into the mysteries the abound, and the love that would not die.

In summary...and I quote my final GoodReads update for this title...

"OMG...I ♡ this book so much it hurts! So good! Just, ugh! Seriously, if it's not on your radar, change that STAT!"

...end quote.  😊

Really and truly, it was a fabulous story filled to the brim with magic, mystery, and heart, that'll have Young Adult Fantasy fans clamoring for more as they add another FAVORITE to their shelves...and a new book boyfriend to their lists!

Hunt of the Gods
Areios Brothers #2
by Amy Braun
Genres: Adult,Urban Fantasy

Publication date: June 4th 2019

Two months have passed since Derek Areios—war-scion and heir of Ares—and the band of rogue scions he’s aligned with recovered both the Thunderbolt of Zeus and the Heart of the Devourer and returned them to the Gods. During the battle, Derek discovered he could control not only the element of fire, as all war-scions can, but also the dark element “aether,” making him the only scion alive to wield two types of elemental magic.

Commanded by Zeus to retrieve the Trinity Weapons and the Shards of Cronus, Derek and the rogue scions are thwarted in their goal by a gang of water-scions with a grudge against one of the rogues—Thea, heir of Poseidon. Both groups travel to an uninhabited island to recover one of the Shards––the Eye that belonged to Cronus, King of the Titans. But what they encounter will lead them down a path of brutal betrayals, hard truths, painful memories, and desperate actions.

With angry and impatient gods breathing down his neck, a curse that allows Ares to control him, a prophecy he’s desperate to avoid, a magic spear corrupting his thoughts, and two forms of elemental magic, Derek has a lot of baggage—and a lot of power. Will the price of using that power to satisfy the Gods be too much for him to pay?

Mythological monsters, explosive magic, and devastating truths take center stage in the second novel of the action-packed AREIOS BROTHERS series from Amy Braun.

RRR presents... THE DISGRACEFUL LORD GRAY by Virginia Heath - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

😏Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we say GOODBYE MARCH and HELLO APRIL as we usher in yet another month of this fast paced year.  Is it just me or does it seem like only yesterday we were welcoming the previous month?  Well, any way you cut it, the year is going fast (wish my home repairs were, but that's a post for another day), and while that can be bittersweet, the book I'm bringing you today is ANYTHING but AND it just so happens to be its BOOK BIRTHDAY too!

We're joining ranks with Rachel's Random Resources again to bring you a stop along the current tour for author Virginia Heath's latest release via Mills & Book Historical!  It's the third title in her The King's Elite series and may I just say...I LOVED IT!  No really, total love!  How so, ah well, you see, that dives deeper than my intro intends, so let's finish the formalities and get down to business.  Ladies and gents, please feast your eyes on today's blog tour guest and book of choice...

About the book...
A spy on a mission…Until he meets this heiress!

Miss Theodora Cranford’s learned to keep her impetuous nature locked away. She won’t be deceived by another man who can’t see past her fortune. She wants an honourable, sensible sort – not a self-assured scoundrel like her new neighbour, Lord Gray. Although she’s sure there’s more to him than meets the eye… But after that first captivating kiss, she's certainly left wanting more!

Once upon a time, there was a headstrong young woman who had her life turned upside down a time or two, so she packed away her heart, stifled her somewhat fiery nature, and proceeded to try to please the masses.  Funny thing about trying to fool others though...your true self is bound to leak out eventually and only then are you ever really sure whom you can trust your secrets AND your heart to.  Lucky for Thea, Lord Gray might just fit both aspects of that particular bill...if only she'd give him a sporting chance...AND he, her.

Oh there is SO MUCH TO LOVE with this one, there's no wrong place to start...and that book love I mentioned?  Yeah, it was BAD, but in a VERY GOOD way!  I quite literally had to stop every few pages or so, and be like...no, you HAVE to listen to this, seriously...and then bend the person's ear about the mishaps that were occurring, or the outlandish thing Mr. Hargreaves did now (REALLY wanted to throttle that man!), or how Lord Gray was frolicking in the brook again with Trefor (*giggle*), or how clever Trefor really is with that wonderfully powerful nose of his (such a sweetheart!), or how Thea had worked herself up into a tizzy over her non-like of Lord Gray (protest too much and one simply MUST wonder...), or how her best friend who's up in years isn't afraid of making that proverbial leap, or...well, I think you get the picture.  😊

All in all, it was a delightful read from start to finish and a wonderful addition to what's already been a fantastic series.  From the MORE than meet cute (*fans self*) to the delightfully scintillating flirt sessions that are still most appropriate for their times, the determined nature they both adopt during their truce to the seemingly fated breaking of those same vows in a most spectacular fashion, all whilst in the middle of an investigation that cannot even be muttered accidentally in the heat of any moment for the threat to King and country!  Oh, it's much too delicious to not surrender a weekend or afternoon to...and while yes, it can be read as a standalone, do yourself the favor and READ THEM ALL.  You'll thank me...promise.

About the author...

When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Fortunately, the lovely people at Harlequin Mills & Boon took pity on her and decided to publish her romances, but it still takes her forever to fall asleep.
