About the book...
Phoebe loves anything that involves brainstorming, like jigsaw puzzles, riddles, and word searches. Her lifelong dream is to solve mysteries like her detective father—or ND, her favorite girl detective. So when a friend’s prized autographed book disappears, Phoebe immediately offers to take on the case.
Enlisting the help of her BFF, Phoebe gets to work searching for clues, interviewing witnesses, and compiling a list of suspects. But when the evidence implicates a friend, she realizes being a detective isn’t all fun and games. Phoebe must find concrete evidence before she points the finger. Can she do it, or will the book bandit get away with the dastardly deed?

This is the perfect introduction for younger readers to the mystery genre. It's gives them a diverse group of friends to find themselves in, relatable characters with issues that are real world and common place, a mystery to solve that isn't over the top, and probable solutions that could once again real world happen. It's like a kiddo version of a detective's handbook without all the rules and regulations to bog their imagination fest down quite yet...and being the start of a new series, that means more adventures to come! But I digress...
I loved how Phoebe takes us step by step through the mystery being worked on. She, along with her friends, uncover the clues and determine their significance, discover potential suspects, follow up on those leads, and break down the solution to the case by book's end...all while making us desperately hungry for some ice cream! You get the chance to figure out the motive and mastermind as the story unfolds, giving readers of all ages the chance to flex their mental muscles and show what they're made of. The things the kiddos get up to are none too dangerous, making it a safe read for youngsters taking a step out on their own in the reading world, and letting the adults in their lives rest easy that shenanigans won't follow up as an act two that kids will try to act out. The "worst" result from reading this one...a desire to indulge in more mysteries, or an investigation of their own into the world of law enforcement. Hey, you're never too young to start figuring out where your interests lie!
A great read for kiddos looking to branch out on their own, or perhaps wanting to take over story time with something fun, something interesting, something adventurous! Can't wait to see what's in store for this group next story round!
