It's that time of year!
Time to shed the winter clothes, throw those cares away, and don your swimwear, as you head to the beach for a day of sun, surf, and fun! Okay, so technically the weather in most places this year is acting a bit out of sorts...it was actually a little chilly down here today and up north still has major snow in some places...but normally speaking, it's beach weather season. The Picture Book on deck today via The Children's Book Review tour puts you right smack in the middle of a day that could be fun filled or spoiled, depending on the actions and reactions of those visiting. Let's see what happens in today's ebook of choice...

About the book...
Beach days are the best days and Sara loves everything about the beach. Her favorite part is making her Famous Seaweed Soup. Collecting all the ingredients is a tough job but Sara thinks she’s up to the task!
Can she make it all by herself or will a busy family foil her recipe?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fun(ny) title?
Yes...but it fits the story perfectly, after all, that's exactly what our girl Sara is out to make...SEAWEED SOUP. The thing is it's not so much about the contents of the soup, or the actual ability to eat same said soup...trust me on this, pretending is definitely the right option...but how it was made, or even that it WAS made.
Why?
Great question, but the answer is a little more involved. You see, Seaweed Soup is something Sara made every time she went to the beach, but usually with the help of her father, mother, or perhaps even the attempts of her baby sister...but today, today it's all about her. Father is busy with this, Mother is busy with that, and baby is sucking her toes while putting sand in her mouth. The general conclusion, no one has time to help Sara with her soup. Now, some kiddos would get grouchy, while others throw a fit, but not our gal. She takes matters into her own hands and embodies that old motto of "when the going gets tough, the tough get going"...and makes the whole darn thing herself!
So?
Geesh...aren't you full of questions today! (Just kidding!) The big deal is that her choice showed her maturity. Her decision to enjoy the day and play anyway allowed her to find joy in the day, the same as everyone else. It showed she could have fun on her own, but also that she could share the spoils of that fun with her family...taking the high road in a situation that many little ones would have rather traveled low. It was a great example of tackling challenges, seizing the day, and not letting the bumps in life throw you off course. Things may not always go the way you planned them, but rolling with the punches won't allow those bumps to steal your joy.
An interesting story with illustrations to bring it all together, I can certainly see this one being shared during family story time as well as learning circles in the classroom to help learn about emotions, and reactions.
