Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... The Unsinkable Gus Davis by Laurie Trumble Davis - REVIEW!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're shining the BOOK BIRTHDAY review spotlight on a new Picture Book title that came to my attention via the fab folks at Smith Publicity, Inc. It's a book that's perfect for your summer reading starring characters that will immediately endear themselves to you with their kind ways, and furry ends. No, really! The lead boy is a REALLY good boy, even if he is a bit stubborn and...well, you'll understand in a moment. Ladies and gents, fur kids of all ages and breeds, gather round as we prepare to DIVE into today's book of choice...

About the book...
Gus Davis is a French bulldog who thinks he can do anything—even swim. Bean is Gus’s human best friend who thinks bulldogs aren’t designed for the water.

Who is right?

It turns out, they both are!

All it takes is a persistent bulldog and a creative human friend to prove that, with a little practice and adaptation, anything is possible. The Unsinkable Gus Davis is a playful story about figuring things out, staying safe around water, and laughing along the way!

Bean and Gus.
Gus and Bean.
An inseparable duo, if ever there was one....
...until summer came along and tried to ruin things!

Okay, so I'm being a bit dramatic, but how would YOU feel if your bestest little fur friend couldn't enjoy summer to its full extent, by your side, because he simply wasn't built to swim?  Yeah, you'd be upset, but the thing is...Gus insists that he CAN swim, and won't hear anything to the contrary.  Even when he ends up underwater a time or two after stubbornly cannonballing into the water as fast as his little legs could carry him.  The thing one is really wrong in this conversation.  Bean knows what she knows, and Gus knows what he knows, and yet we as readers are about to see just how far fact and belief can really take you when combined.

OMG guys, if the story wasn't enough for you, the characters are a perfect match for the tale being told, not to mention the GORGEOUS illustrations throughout!  There's nary a page that you turn where Bean isn't trying to find a solution to the problem, or Gus isn't grumbling away about how he can, in fact, do anything.  You'll smile, chuckle, and learn a thing or two along the will Gus, but we won't point that out to him because seriously, by book's end he's enjoying himself FAR too much to distract!

About the author...

Laurie Trumble Davis is a book lover who lives in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, with her family. They spend their summers on Cape Cod at Schoolhouse Pond, where Gus, her French bulldog, believed he was the best swimmer on the pond. And he was. . . especially when wearing his life jacket! Although this is her debut picture book, Laurie is no stranger to the world of books and book selling. She has worked for Barnes & Noble coordinating author appearances in New England. She has also done publicity and promotions in news media.

What a cute cover, given that French bulldogs are so popular at the moment I can see this book being a winner for this alone. That it sounds like a great story and the illustrations are gorgeous throughout can only make it even more appealing.
